@bullseatpizza I think it is, especially for just an extra $500. It's like having full-coverage insurance-you may never use it, but you'll be glad to have it when you need it.
@poet79ful I think you answered your own question--if it can go to Alaska and back, then sure it can handle it. But maybe you meant to ask, can I handle riding this bike for long distances. It's not a touring bike, but I think afternoon rides (maybe 100-200 miles) are no problem.
The Rebel 250, though--you will hate it at freeway speeds!
olny thing that sucks about the kawasaki 250r's is there fuckin carb's i hate carbs if i wanted to mess with a carb i would get a harley lol the cbr 250r's all are FUEL INJECTED witch i love alot about the cbr 250r's
@permachoob True enough, but carbs are actually pretty simple to figure out, especially the basic CVs on the Ninja. FI, on the other hand, requires a dyno and somebody who really knows what they are doing to get exact.
@aaronalvarado27 That depends on what you like and what you want to do with the motorcycle. If you are riding more than half for pleasure/fun, I'd go with the Ninja. The CBR is a better around-town/commuting bike.
i just had you as my Basic Rider Course instructor. i was one of the guys who finished the class today. Didnt expect to stumble across a video of you on youtube lol
@MrChazOMatic , actually, the Ninja was the wife's bike, but she's having a baby in November...I bought a Street Triple R to replace my old Ducati Supersport.
hmmmm why dont the bike dealers promote the fact that they can be used to race i wonder? it would attract more customers you would think; those people that would be thinking "yeh they look ok but too cheap to be a racing bike, i might wait til i can afford a 600"
@TheShaun5150 Actually, they do! Kawasaki USA pays contingency money to racers, and if the dealers aren't telling customers about it it's not because of any systemic problem.
the ninja is quicker but if you want to race then neither of these bikes will do the job or even last too long, the ninja rides smoother at high end speeds but the cbr changes gears smoother and has a better ratio for zooming around streets. the ninja is slightly bigger and heavier and doesnt have an lcd dash, only gauges. if you have never ridden before then the cbr is for you, if you have experience then it might be a bit "dull" and the ninja will be more of a challenge
@TheShaun5150 "neither of these bikes will do the job or even last too long" Ha! You're talking to a guy who raced Ninja 250s for 7 seasons with AFM...they last just fine and are as durable and dependable as any 600cc racebike, and are much, much cheaper to run. A set of tires will last half a season, they barely use any gas and parts are pretty cheap. And if you burn up a motor, a good one can be had at the junkyard for a few hundred bucks.
its also made in thailand just like the ninja 250 i saw one at the dealership and it is also made in thailand so right on par with the ninja and btw the north american ninja 250s are the only ones that are carbed everyone else theyre fi so the cbr250r isnt really better than the ninja
@getshokin just about ive hard complaints about the clutch ive watched a couple of comparison vids between the 250s hyosung gt250r the honda and the ninja another complaint was that the honda is small
@aod28 My guess is Honda doesn't think it's worth the effort to stock the extra color and the extra hassles that would entail--keeping blue bodywork in stock, for instance. Honda will sell every one it brings in, so why bother with a bunch of colors?
wich one is the quickest to do the 0-60mph ? Cbr250 or ninja 250?? And I heard top speed of this cbr was around 160-165 km/h (must be around 100 mp/h i guess??) so what about the kawa?? Is this similar on the ninja? Thanks and great video! I appreciated :)
@b4ll4z I think the Ninja will ahve the slight acceleration edge to 60 (but not to 30). Top speed of the Honda (on Cycle World's radar gun, not the YouTube Teenager Bullshit-O-meter) is around 87 mph, Ninja is 94.
@getshokin Great review, I'm in the market for one of the 250's, like you said, looks are subjective but the Ninja has much nicer -full- fairing. another consideration is the engine, for me, sound and feel are important and a single cylinder engine just doesn't have that smooth feel and sound to it, the Ninja's sound always makes me look back when one passes me.
My dislikes are the Ninja's ancient looking instrument panel, a shame really. (but I will buy the Ninja ;) )
@shummyshum I'm not sure which decal, but it's probably a warning sticker of some kind. The US DOT requires many warnings, and Honda's lawyers require more.
@shummyshum It is protection and styling for your tank, when tucking on the bike your zipper may rub on the tank and produce some nasty scratches, it protects your tank from that and it is also stylish!
Part 2: ...I've been riding motorcycles all my life and it felt like it was going that fast. That said, I rode an almost new 2010 Ninja 250 & with it's 50% weight penalty ~375 lbs vs. ~250 lbs for the CBR150R, it just didn't feel any faster accelerating. A Youtube video of both drag racing confirmed my experience. Small frame ~120 lb. Thais regularly push their CBR150Rs to 160+ km/h indicated (100mph)with some minor mods. It seems the heavy CBR250R will suffer just like the Ninja 250 does.
Enjoyed the video, thanks! I live in Thailand & bought a new CBR150R in 2006 & it has been a fantastic little bike w/excellent handling, dependability, & fuel economy. It took a while to get used to riding it after riding a 1400cc Intruder V-twin for years, but compromises have 2B made to live in Thailand, but wasn't about to settle for 110cc step-thru scooter. I've had my CBR wide open at 140km/h (~87 mph) & the speedo may be off a tad, but... see part 2
@cdnmotostar And my cat can do long division in her head. Too bad I can never prove it.
The only way a CBR125 will go over 100 mph is if you drop it out of an airplane or if it's been heavily modified. Remember there is a difference between indicated top speed and actual top speed. The Ninja 250R was clocked on Cycle World's radar gun at 92 mph. The CBR250R makes less power and will therefore go slower.
@getshokin Dude I have a cbr 125r ... ive driven it at 100mph, heck ill take a video for you next year... Look on youtube there are videos of cbr125s going 95 mph. and ninja 250s can go at least 120 mph ive seen it with my own eyes....
@cdnmotostar I will pay you $50 if you show me radar-gun evidence of a CBR125 going 100 or a Ninja 250 going 120. We're talking stock or lightly modified bikes with no streamlining, right?
@getshokin okay thats just great where am i going to get a radar gun... Seriously man theres tons of proof on youtube. and as for the bike going 100 its called redline.. some people just dont know how to ride... i out rode a ninja 250 in a straight line, alot depends on rider skill
@cdnmotostar I see videos of your bike doing 145 kph, and that's 89.9 mph--INDICATED. I think you have a hard time understanding the concept of built-in speedometer error (which can add 10 percent or more to your speedometer reading), but even then, there is no way a 12-14 hp bike can go over 100mph without streamlining. It's not a matter of rider skill, it's a matter of physics, and until you provide proof involving a certified radar gun, nobody will believe you, so sorry.
@getshokin okay so you've seen riders going 90 mph indicated so lets say a rider is 50 less pounds then the person doing that 90mph would you think that would make a big difference for a measly 10 mph? nobody will believe me.. everyone i ride with does because they have seen it..
@GregoryHouseMD1 We won't have a bike to test until April, just like you. 26hp sounds about right for the bike I rode. It's a world model, so there probably will be few differences between the India-market version and the USA one.
Did I say the USA model would make 20 hp? Are you responding to another video?
I said it probably has 23-24 hp at the wheel. The 26hp number (which I think the Indian reviewer pulled out of his ass) is AT THE CRANK. Do you understand the difference? Driveline friction will eat up 10-15% of the crankshaft output.
@BeeCBender Not only did I not say at the wheel, I also never said the number 20. I clearly said 23 or 24, which, in hindsight, may be a bit optimistic.
Honda has no released official power figures to anybody, which is why I think the Indian guy either guessed or just repeated something he overheard unofficially.
0-100mph is an eternity, because this bike will never go that fast. Top speed is maybe 80-85. I have no idea how long it takes--I didn't do any real testing. You'll have to wait until the big magazines have one for long enough to really test it.
Redline is 10,500 rpm, but peak power is at 8500 rpm. I'd say RPMs will be about 7-8000 at 65-70 mph.
When I said it's subjective, I was referring to things like styling and how the motor feels. Obviously, FI and ABS are factual things with real advantages, which I will discuss in my Motorcycle Daily story.
We weren't allowed to do top-speed testing. However, I got it up to an indicated 80 at one point and it felt like it would pull a little bit more. I'm thinking top speed of around 85 mph.
So lets see: Advantages of CBR250R: - ABS available - Digital Dash (with clock, fuel/temp gauge) - More modern design & better finish - Performance at low end (but not overall)
Advantages of Ninja 250r: - Performance at top end and overall - Parallel Twin (vs single cylinder on the honda) - Handling - Suspension
It seems Honda generally focus on finish and tech while Kawasaki focus on the ride itself. For me the Ninja wins overall but I do wish there was an ABS option.
Is ABS on a motocycle worth it?

Take the Honda Civic sedan its detuned to 128-130HP here in India.
