For such a large choir I thought they did really well. It was sensitive to the text and the phrasing. Really tough for a thousand voice ensemble. Of course it is different than the chamber chorale for which it was written, but that is the beauty of music. Adaptation and exploration. Good job!
Texas is very, very good. But they are also ridiculously arrogant. Yeah, it's a great All-State program. But a lot of other states have choirs that are just as good. Iowa and Minnesota come to mind.
SD isn't great, but you have to remember that they have students from every single school in the state. It's not auditioned the same way other states are.
Hey, all of you people who are bashing. Listen here. South Dakota is the ONLY state to have an "All State Choir" in which EVERY school is represented. We also have an Honor Choir which is more like the "All-State" choirs youre talking about in your respective states. I sang in this group, and I can tell you there were some pretty bad singers, but also very good ones. Show me a 1000 voice choir that can match vowels, and I'll show you impossible.
personally. this song was ruined. i think the group is WAYYYYYY to be to be doing this with. and the tenor and soprano solos got ruined. especially since the tenors sound so young.
This doesn't even compare to texas...its like trying to compare metal to water...this music doesn't move at all and horrible vowels and immature sounds.
I have seen some of the worst postures ever on here... What do they teach you in South Dakota? Im sure this is the whole state of South Dakota in this choir anyway... Come to Missouri if you want real choirs
it must be how good they are. since apparently south dakota is amazing. at least the way some of their comments sound. the weight of their "pressure" to sound good makes them have bad posture
hehe
and yes. missouri is very good. i will be honest, i was suprised. i thought it was NJ, texas, and a few others that were up here. but missouri is really good. hah.
ok...so that means there are 960 problems that you'll have to fix?
Texas is KNOWN for its all-state ensembles! We start out with about 50,000 choir students auditioning. Only 1-2% of those students make it into either the Mixed, Men's or Women's Choirs.
Size doesn't matter-quality is the important thing. For my money, and I was impartial before listening, South Dakota destroys Texas and their 10,000 people!
Isn't that basically what I said? The reason why there is 1-2% of the singer left to make the all-state choirs is because Texas wants quality not quantity. Obviously you've never heard a Texas all-state ensemble.
I've heard plenty of them(Texas All State Ensembles), and in general they sound like solid musicians, just as all of the other states do. They do not sound any better or worse. I get sick of hearing all of the empty, somewhat obnoxious bragging I hear from Texas, that's all.
Not meaning any disrespect at all, I am sure that all of the states want quality rather than quantity. Now, I can agree that 1000 voices may be a bit over the top, but don't judge them for that-listen! They sound great!
I never said that they sucked. If you read, you can see that I said that they sound really good. Trust me, I listen to so many all-state ensembles from various states. I really don't intend to be bias but in all honesty, I don't think any of the other all-state choirs match up to Texas. Go ahead and listen to other states besides yours and tell me what you think
that is still bias. i was in NJ all state, and z. randall stroope was our director and we did many peice that texas did in past year, nd he said that we were one of the better all states. and i've heard many better all states than texas.
name one...i've heard New Jersey. Very good singers! And i know Z. Randall Stroope was there this past year; He was in Texas too. And, besides I've heard better All-State groups than New Jersey from other states not including Texas.
i LOVED stroopee. sure, he was very tough on us sometimes, and he didnt put up with any bullshit during rehersal, but what is supposed to do, let us talk through rehersal, and not be tough on us so we dont sound as good as we could? i think he's an amazing person.
This chorus sings with such heart. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this piece. I also enjoyed the Pilgrim's Chorus. Very nice blend. Who is the Director and from what school does he direct? I like his choice in music.
@MusicalMindAssault What about Arkansas? Florida? Really? I've heard FL as well and I don't know what you heard but I dont see what's so special?

I had stroope as a conductor in the 2004 SD all state, and he was a prick. as a composer he is amazing but as a person he is an absolute asshole
