  • This was recorded two years before Sea Change was released. Easily one of the best songs ever.

  • @brett66

    agreed. He's so ace.

  • I Don't think Beck's Ever made anything that sucked. The guy is a fucking monster

  • Has anyone ever seen Beck and David Spade in the same room? I didn't think so.

  • Looks like beck was a member of America the band in this video.

  • does anyone know how the backing guitarist gets that country electric guitar?

  • @redsox1024 I have one word for you: Telecaster.

  • What is this video from?

  • Only Beck can sport the Canadian Tuxedo and aviators and still look cool.

  • DAVID SPADE?

  • one of my favorite songs, ever. masterful.

  • Beck, you motherfucker, you just ruined music for me cause now it all sucks compared to this.

  • Pure genius.

  • Genius!

  • Coolest guy ever to walk our planet

  • great

  • LOL. He is totally tripping some balls at the beginning here

  • I could listen to Beck all day...

  • @Debilyn7 I do!

  • huge!!!!!

  • The slide guitar work could have been used on the Flaming Lips' version. Would have done nicely.

  • Sea Change was one of only two albums in 2002 to get five stars from Rolling Stone magazine.

  • If you ask me, he is above Neils league

A very talented and interesting man indeed. He can pull off any sound.

  • I admit I don't follow Beck that much but Neil is out of anyone ballpark, I assume from hearing the "Best of Beck". How many songs do you know that he did with Buffalo Springfield? Be honest. His greatest stuff was 66 to '79 in a frenzy of genius. Do you know Expecting to Fly? On the Way Home Mr Soul The Loner I've been waiting for you Birds Love in Mind Powderfinger Little Wing Everybody's Alone ?? .

  • Beck could've written Heart of Gold or Old Man. Neil could never have written Soul Sucking Jerk or Lord Only Knows...

  • Dwarf - very convincing.

  • I listened to Lord only knows and I don't care if I hear it again - it's not bad. I think you probably are not aware of Neil being the great writer he is cause you may not know Buffalo Springfield or many of his early records. Since 1980, Neil is mediocre at best. Try listened to MR Soul or Expecting to Fly (not the crappy youtube version) or On the Way Home..

  • jajaja, that's the truest shit ever wrote, you said a lot with only a few words... beck rocks better than anybody!!!

  • Eh, I think they're a bit too different to really compare. Naturally, this and all of the Sea Change album is like his folk tribute, but Beck changes up too often to really be compared to Young. Both are fantastic musicians, though.

  • @TwigDjango I agree. They are both chameleons and comfortable in many genres but their styles are so different. I think Beck can wear more hats than Neil.

Both Beck and Young seem unknowable but sensitive. I guess I am so much more into Neil (66 to '78)... I am such a musical dinosaur. I do think this song is one of the best I have ever heard. At least this new video is real and Beck strums in time and everything is back in focus even if there is hypnotic magic in the beach video.

  • now that is how you wear aviators

  • if there is one thing that beck should not do its cut an album with neil young

  • Damn, the guy can shred an acoustic guitar.

  • Great song! Very talented & underrated artist!

  • he's talented but he's not underrated. everybody rates him very high as far as i know

  • bit Bowie-style-

  • I love this song

Sea Change is my fav' Beck's album !

  • listen to him! I've been a die hard Beck fan for 15 years, I would LOVE to see him and Neil Young do an album together!!!!

  • @niteclydn it would be Neils honor......

  • beautiful, serious lyrics--great music too.

Beck, even serious, is a gem.

  • when i listen to this it makes me wish i was driving across a desert on drugs

  • hahahaha!!

  • haha me too what a coinkey dink

  • dude i kno what you mean and that twangy lead guitar is awesome especially in the studio, so subtle and diminished

  • Perfect idea! let's go!

  • In a 1969 Camaro.

  • I'm in Hunter S.

  • Be careful of bat country!

  • Brilliant

  • This is Beck's magnum opus.

  • beautiful song!! watch my version too. nothing compares to beck.

  • myspace song

  • Hey if you LISTEN to sea change the recording

and enginering are awesome. And his vocals are great. This guy is one of the most creative cats out there always trying something new.love him

  • Hey! This is from 2000 and sea change is from 2002! so he perfomed this song before the album was released! cool!

  • Yeah, he broke up with his longtime girlfriend in 2000 and supposedly wrote most of the songs for Sea Change in the two weeks after that. The audience was probably pretty shocked to hear a song like this so soon after his Midnite Vultures tour...

  • Yeah...I knew that story and I guess it explains this acoustic/mellow set of songs...

  • definitely not one of my favourite albums, but i don't mind seeing him perform some of sea change's songs.

  • I happened upon a Korean girl duo that does a song somewhat like this one. It prompted me to listen to the whole album of Sea Change. It took me back to lonely days of aimlessly driving around the streets of Kalamazoo Michigan in a toyota corolla. Thanks Beck.

  • Beck is one of the best things ever to happen to music.

  • Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

  • Not really. Two chords. There is about a million songs thats more alike.

  • actually "golden age" shares way more chords with "time" by pink floyd rather than "wish you were here"

  • this is one of the greatest songs every written.

  • This version is alot more jammy compared the the floaty studio version. I like it though!

  • Hey i have i think his first record. It came with a free fingerpainting. Anyone want it make me an offer. BECK RULES

  • beck = pretty

  • hes great

  • i wish i could have been there to see this!

  • When all have fallen away,SEA CHANGE WILL remain! All the love and blesings!

  • is it just me or does he look like David Spade here? LOL

  • No David Spade looks like beck

  • actually, David Spade is older than Beck, so technically that would mean Beck looks like David Spade, since David Spade looked like that first! lol

  • even if david spade is older, beck is WAY fuckin cooler, I say david spade looks like beck

  • Oh, I totally agree..Beck is definitely cooler!

  • its like comparing apples and oranges. both are great

  • i didn't mean to hit the thumbs down, Sorry

  • This is a great song. KT Tunstall makes it her own, but this is her starting point. This is good night driving music, better direction taking advice: a beginning point from a crossroads.

  • no, i don't know many things. this is good road trip music for sure.

  • beck is style

  • i never heard this....beck's good mellow

  • you did not know beck´s golden age?

my favorite beck´s song and my favorite album "sea change", i love it (L)!!!

  • yeah, "sea change" is brilliant.

  • thanks for posting this gem.

  • pre sea change. i like it
