  • would you buy the nex or the olympus om-d ?

  • @massatsch1 Depends on your priorities. If image quality is number one, then the NEX is the way to go. But if you want truly small system, then I'd go with the Olympus.

  • @PhotographyREVIEW okay thanks! a video comparison would be great :)

  • @massatsch1 Sorry, I don't have either camera now - both went back to the manufacturers. But I am currently working on a full review of the NEX-5N and as soon as Olympus sends me a working E-M5, I'll start working on that review, as well :-)

  • excellent presentation. nice cuts in the video. informative.

  • @1jayboydog Thanks! I keep learning and getting better at the video thing. But I will try to keep the somewhat dirty, amateur feel :-)

  • @PhotographyREVIEW ohh ok yeah the ep3 burst shooting is pretty pointless its pretty much the same speed as just continually pushing the shutter button down :( you have an ep3 right? how do you think it compares to the new?

  • Thanks for the review! I too live in Salt Lake City... so, HI! :)

I just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love it! I haven't done anything with speed shooting yet but my still shots are AMAZING! Can't wait to try out new things with it!

  • P.S forgot to ask your opinion on that Sony zoom lens - how is the IQ at max length's??

  • @CRANKYONE100 Both of the Sony kit zoom lenses are ok. They aren't great, though. I can't post a link here but you can search the PhotographyREVIEW gallery. I've got photos posted there.

  • thanks for review again mate..can i get your opinion on weather you think the nex system would compete with a Canon 60D for portraits/sport? - specially if using a good Sigma or even L lens?.The AF/contrast issue you mentioned is a worry as i want to take semi-pro sports action.

  • @CRANKYONE100 The 60D's continuous AF will walk all over the NEX cameras. However, you could go with a Sony Alpha SLT digital SLR as well. They have excellent continuous auto focus, too. It's just the mirrorless cameras that have crappy continuous AF - except for the new Nikon 1 system...

  • @PhotographyREVIEW my E-P3 has an awesome auto focus :D

  • @romaf06 Yes, the E-P3 does have awesome auto focus - in single shot mode. I've been very careful to qualify my auto focus statements because there's definitely room for confusion. It's *continuous* auto focus where mirrorless cameras don't perform very well. The only exception so far is are the Nikon 1 cameras. Your E-P3 wouldn't have done any better with the ski photos here than the Sony did.

  • Any reviews on the nex 7?

  • @19Bokeh84 Because there has been such limited availability, I haven't been able to get one yet. It's looking like I might get one for review in February. That's why I got the NEX-5N. I wanted to get a feel for the system. I'm definitely more interested now. If you check the Web site you'll find I have a hands-on "first impressions" article about the NEX-7 I wrote after the Photo Plus Expo in October. I'm very excited about it.

  • @PhotographyREVIEW I actually consulted a friend who asked me what kind of camera she should buy. I led her in the direction of "mirrorless" systems since they've become a global success and she went with the NEX5 kit. We went to Mt. Rushmore over a week ago and I'm surprised how nifty it is. They said it comes out this month, and there are already listings on Amazon for it.

  • @Neiliooooo You did good! There are reasons to buy a digital SLR instead. But for most people, the mirrorless / compact system cameras are a much more practical purchase.

  • Great camera but until they get a lineup of good compact lenses like micro four thirds and Samsung has it's a no go.

  • @ar4216 Thanks for the comment. To be honest, I'm not very familiar with their current lens line. I didn't mention it in the video but one of the things that disappointed me was the quality of the kit lenses. I think I have been spoiled by the excellent Olympus Pen lenses. I would really like to try the 18-200mm, though. If it's good I think I could be pretty happy with the 5N and that lens for a mtb and ski camera.
