i actually got it on the first try and then i tried the standing one...then suddenly i could do it..but i was afraid to do it on floor then 1 day i did it xD
Oh it's me again--watching the demo once more helped me come to yet another realization...and I think it was NIKE that hit the nail on the head originally: JUST DO IT! Forget adhering to the mid-line and establishing the foundation of the elemental nature of the asana first. Just break your self to get there! And don't forget to call Sadie when you are 100 and thank her for the state of your spine.
Interesting...so what I am getting from this demo is that a drop back backbend requires NO thoracic spine opening whatsoever--it's as though Sadie is trying to lie down on a picnic table...and to rise back up to standing, I finally see, you lead with the KNEES not the "heart" after all! I was all mixed up! Just twist in the sacrum, access your "core strength" in...um... the knees...pray...and...presto! No need to open the chest and find inner leg stability. Sooo much easier to teach now!
Sadie, you seem sweet and well-intentioned, but this looks like a very dangerous and uninformed way to drop back and stand up. This seems like an old video. Have you changed the way you practice drop and stand up since then?
haha, I love the "if i can do it, you can do it" comment Sadie...I know you meant that in time we will be able, but it just sounded so sweet and funny and like a utopia :)) haha love you though hahah
i kno...i cant either!!!! (and im a gymnast) lol...the first time i tryed, i snaped one of the ligaments in my neck....soo...idk if im gonna be doing that anytime soon...lol <3
i can do it like dat, but how do u do it without lifting ur toes. cuz i see alot of people do it with their feet flat, nd whenever i try i cant do it.
Videos like this help me see what I need to do but i still think that it is impossible for me to do a bridge or backbend. Does my hight have anything to do with it.... I am 6'4. I run track so I should be more flexable than the average person. So if anyone has any tips let me know =]
i could do this since i was 7, it isnt as hard as you think, i can still do it now and im 14 i never thought of practising on a wall i actually started the crab (what i call it) when i was 6 and then i wanted to be able to do it standing up so i practiced on a hill but i dont advise you to go practise on a hill lol. can you do a tutorial of how to flip over from a back bend if you can do it? :)
That's great! But this video is really tough for the people who are older, and whose bodies have to work back in to the natural flexibility of youth, as amintac says. For you, keep up the good work, do yoga, and you'll be miles ahead of other people your age. you won't need this video, ever!
If you're taller, you'll have farther to go, but other than that, this is possible for anyone. If you're very overweight, it could be too much for your balance and arm strength, so I wouldn't advise it. Otherwise, if you're getting flexible in your other backbends, try it! xoSadie
thank u so much! i've seen other videos and read about how to do a backbend from a standing position but they never really helped! u really covered how to do it well. thanx again!
thx sooooo much iit TOTALLY helped me !!! ur great, i could neva get back up but now i can ! once again thxx ..xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I don't do back kickovers, since it's not really a yoga move. But I bet there are other vids on it-- maybe in gymnastics? let me, and everyone know if you find a good one! Sadie
Also, since you're tall, start with a couch behind you and learn the physics of your legs, as well as strengthen them. Then when you can hover without touching the couch, you're plenty strong to slow your way to the floor.
If you're afraid, don't do it all at once. Practice backbends from the floor until you get your arms strong, then try this pose, but with a couch behind you so you get used to going halfway down and strengthening your legs. When you can use your legs to hover without touching the couch, you're ready for the floor. It's all about standing control, so you never have to fall back. Make sure you catch that floor, but take your time.
Thanks yet again Sadie. Tried dropping back Sunday and got it first time. tried again today and landed on my head (both vids on my page). Was losing confidence till I saw your video, yes much slower going down now. Feet were wobbly on my toes though so tried it with a rolled up mat under my heels, helped. Still struggling with getting back up though thanks again x
Be careful of your head--your neck ain't nothing to mess around with. Sounds like you're getting it though. You can also go halfway down onto a couch so you can learn to strengthen and hover halfway down while reaching back--that will make you strong enough so the lowering all the way isn't left to chance. Good luck! Sadie
I have been trying to overcome my fear for years! Using the wall did not help much cos each time my head tilts backwards and I start seeing everyone upside down - I freak! Guess I'm gonna give your method a try. Somehow you make it look so easy. Wish me luck! I'll let you know if I made it! :)
I used to be the same way about it, and using your legs with physics this way helps slow you way down so it's not that fast or scary. Just commit to that last reaching-for-the-floor moment, and you're set! You can try it standing in front of your couch first to get the idea of dropping back, then progress to the floor. Good luck, have fun! Sadie
and now am perfect :D

This is not the best way to come out of a back bend. This can eventually hurt your shoulders. You should always bring both arms up together.

What is the difference between "half wheel" and "full wheel" poses? Thanks
gbsk12 3 years ago
I'm not familiar with half wheel, unless some people call Bridge Pose that, and Full Wheel is the backbend with hands and feet only on the floor.
