Mya did a great job I wish she went further.
My opinion of their dancing is the same as the middle judge (number 2), the elder guy, who consistently gave them lower scores!. They vulgarized this dance!
I love watching them dance together. If I were the queen of the world they would be my dance slaves and I would force them to dance for me all the time!

The thing is... with these types of dances- someone has to lead. You can't both be leading at the same time otherwise it just looks weird and forced. Mya looks like she's dominating him, where as- it should be the opposite way around. It just looks aggressive and not at all gentle or sensual.
I like Mya and the dance looks great but its not Lambada so I'm a bit confused. Lambada looks totally different from this. If you want an example if you look on the side bar here where they show you suggestions you should see one called Kaoma-Lambada if not just type it in the you tube search. Watch the dancing in that music video. THAT is what the dance should look like. Not saying this wasn't good though :)

Come to my website, learn the dancers names and go to the page of Braz dos Santos where you can see how both the slow Lambada, Danca Elegante and fast Lambada, Danca da Vida was originally danced. Both evolved at the same time but only Danca da Vida was recorded, except for two very short clips danced by Gabriella Turbiani and Braz dos Santos. Look for red brackets.

len's statement makes me question just how the judges are supposed to critique the dances. are they supposed to leave all aside and judge the star on how they executed the choreography they had, or is it all up to expectation and personal agenda.

I agree. But like American Idol, it's a little about talent and a lot about fan favorites. Dimitry rocks and I wish he was on this season. Mya was a talent but no chemistry with the two of them which was a shame. I wish she would have let Dimitry fully choreograph this routine-as Len recently said, let your pro do the talking! She's a bit of a diva but I guess that mentality is necessary to be a star.
I agree with you in that these guys were the best though Mya's insistence on her own dance moves/choreography in this dance were annoying: trust your pro!! I think Dimitry is fantastic and I sure hope he returns too.
lyn was being hard on her because he knew how much of a good dancer she was. If it would have been anyone else, he wouldn't have such high expectations. However, he knew that she was good. He eventually gave her the 10. But he wasn't like the other judges, he made her work for it.
people need 2 stop blaming losing on big fan bases...yes it plays a role but for ex gilles n cheryl: just cuz he was from france doesn't mean his following was smaller because hello he made it to the finals! i wanted mya to win but her freestyle was disappointing much like gilles, mel b, etc all were. the winners deserve their wins because they step it up hardcore in the end. i'm still bummed of course she didn't win but people need to stop makin stupid reasons for the celebs losing....

The fan bases do make a difference. Anyone in marketing or PR would tell you that your reasoning is half baked at best. Gilles was able to use the fan base he did have and grow from there. It is a testament to his dancing ability and his personality that he was able to make it to the finals and even come close to winning. Most of the celebs without a major fan base or one that does not fit the demos who watch the show do start the season in a hole as far as votes go. Good for those who win.
The demographics has nothing to do with it at all. No doubt Dimitri and Mya should have won, however I think the program executives and judges has and will always determine the winner. This is what happened in the case of mya, therefore the network no longer hold any integrity and I no longer watch.
@HighlandPark908 actually demographics have a huge deal to do with it. Even if your theory is right. THe producers and director would want someone to win who would pull in advertisers (money). What does that? Keeping your core demographics happy keeps viewers. I loved Mya's dancing, but she never stood a chance on the show. She wasn't happy and bubbly. She wasn't sweet and innocent. She wasn't on a show that the core demos like or sing a song they like. In other words, she didn't play the game.
Are you that insecure? Absolutely, advertiser have much to do with a show's progression, however its the public that determines the success of a program. When a program lose its integrity of their core value, they lose the public's respect and honor. Mya, showed great professionalism and poise during that entire show, while maintaining the true person she really is w/o playing the game. The girl showed CLASS. However I must ask you, are you a sell out?

@AngelofMine090 On the other hand, Dmitry's relentlessness in the choreography (typical male) led to some oustanding/memorable routines. It also set the standatd and opened the door for season 10's choreographers to get away with being less traditional and more creative. I THOUGHT THEIR FREESTYLE WAS BETTER THAN BENJI AND DONYELLE'S ON SYTYCD.

as much as i think mya and dmitry made a great partner and have chemistry, but sometimes i wish mya paired up with mark, i think it would be mind blowing seeing them together
Uh, sorry but I have to disagree. I know Mark is popular, fun and energetic and has come up with some very good freestyles. But he is not the choreographer that Dmitry is and I don't think he and Mya would have clicked in the chemistry department. Mark is great when he's paired with people like Shawn J. and Kristi Y. but I think Mya is too much for him. Dmitry was just the MAN for her :)

I, personally, liked Joanna and Derek the most and wanted them to win, but I knew that there was NO WAY she could beat Mya. I was absolutely appalled when Donny won. Not that he was a bad dancer. He had just made A LOT more mistakes than Mya. And, for the record, I'm a fourteen year old girl and I did not think Derek was cute, I hate Twilight, and I hate Disney. Please don't make generalizations about teenge girls. It's quite frustrating at times.
Just like Season 8 when Gilles and Melissa was robbed same thing happened to Mya.....they need to get rid of the phone-in popularity crap and leave it up to the judges and the celebrities to show what they can do on their own merits.
OK. I rewatched Mya's and Donny's routines. Mya won hands down. Kim was doing most of the work. Donny is a performer with a great personality. BUT THERE'S NO WAY he's a better dancer than Mya. The demographics of the show is mostly middle-age women. Donny took them back to their young years. He was after all a teen-idol. He helped them reminisce & brought back great memories. That said, Dmitry's choreography was fresh & UNPARALLELD. Team Dmya was ROBBED. I hope he returns 4 season 10I miss him
I never looked at it from that perspective about Donny, but now that I think about it, your absolutely right. I was so ticked Team DMYA lost, I don't even know if I want to watch this coming season, let alone bother to vote. It seems pointless since the actual good dancers don't ever win and get robbed of what they deserve.
The demographics of the show plays a major role in who wins. I felt the same disappointment when Cheryl and Gilles didn't win. He's from France so his American fan-base wasn't as strong. And let's not even talk about Maks and Mel B. Aside from Dmitry, Maks is another phenomenal choreographer. I was flabbergasted when he and Mel B didn't win. This season I hope Dmitry gets a great partner. And if Maks comes back, I wish the same for him. Those 2 are Kings without crowns..
I don't feel that way at all. I agree that mya was the bets dancer there but i felt she was too overpowering, look how she took over the choreography like she was the expert. I feel that Dancing with the stars is about celebrities who don't know how to dance come in and slowly progress. I actually wish Kelly and Louis should have won, too bad she stumbled in her routines.
I wouldn't say any of the winners are undeserving. To watch this show and appreciate it for what it is...one must realize that it is more than just a talent competition. The size/strength of fan bases fit in there, as does the demographics of the fan base vs. who watches the show. Now that the show has been on so many seasons even the pro dancers are starting to get fan bases that impact the voting.
Those that won the top prize were able to use the combination of all the factors involved.
@BHD2012 While all that is true, you have to admit, Mya's Freestyle didn't have the Wow Factor that you need in the Freestyle. I was heartbroken when I saw that Freestyle because I know that she could have done something out of this world. Dmitry's inexperience ended up catching up with them at a very vital moment.

You're very correct, I don't understand why people say things like that about Mya, and sometimes even Joanna, because first, they haven't even met them, second, it's plain out stupid, third, I'd like to see how they'd fair giving their heart and soul on this show, doing well, and then see if they don't look snobby. The thing is... with these types of dances- someone has to lead. You can't both be leading at the same time otherwise it just looks weird and forced. Mya looks like she's dominating him, where as- it should be the opposite way around. It just looks aggressive and not at all gentle or sensual.

I like Mya and the dance looks great but its not Lambada so I'm a bit confused. Lambada looks totally different from this. If you want an example if you look on the side bar here where they show you suggestions you should see one called Kaoma-Lambada if not just type it in the you tube search. Watch the dancing in that music video. THAT is what the dance should look like. Not saying this wasn't good though :)

Is anyone interested in seeing and watching the real Kaoma dancers dance the original Lambada dances from Porto Seguro and Rio? Come to my website, learn the dancers names and go to the page of Braz dos Santos where you can see how both the slow Lambada, Danca Elegante and fast Lambada, Danca da Vida was originally danced. Both evolved at the same time but only Danca da Vida was recorded, except for two very short clips danced by Gabriella Turbiani and Braz dos Santos. Look for red brackets.

len's statement makes me question just how the judges are supposed to critique the dances. are they supposed to leave all aside and judge the star on how they executed the choreography they had, or is it all up to expectation and personal agenda.

I agree. But like American Idol, it's a little about talent and a lot about fan favorites. Dimitry rocks and I wish he was on this season. Mya was a talent but no chemistry with the two of them which was a shame. I wish she would have let Dimitry fully choreograph this routine-as Len recently said, let your pro do the talking! She's a bit of a diva but I guess that mentality is necessary to be a star.

lyn was being hard on her because he knew how much of a good dancer she was. If it would have been anyone else, he wouldn't have such high expectations. However, he knew that she was good. He eventually gave her the 10. But he wasn't like the other judges, he made her work for it.

people need 2 stop blaming losing on big fan bases...yes it plays a role but for ex gilles n cheryl: just cuz he was from france doesn't mean his following was smaller because hello he made it to the finals! i wanted mya to win but her freestyle was disappointing much like gilles, mel b, etc all were. the winners deserve their wins because they step it up hardcore in the end. i'm still bummed of course she didn't win but people need to stop makin stupid reasons for the celebs losing....

The fan bases do make a difference. Anyone in marketing or PR would tell you that your reasoning is half baked at best. Gilles was able to use the fan base he did have and grow from there. It is a testament to his dancing ability and his personality that he was able to make it to the finals and even come close to winning. Most of the celebs without a major fan base or one that does not fit the demos who watch the show do start the season in a hole as far as votes go. Good for those who win.

The demographics has nothing to do with it at all. No doubt Dimitri and Mya should have won, however I think the program executives and judges has and will always determine the winner. This is what happened in the case of mya, therefore the network no longer hold any integrity and I no longer watch.

@HighlandPark908 actually demographics have a huge deal to do with it. Even if your theory is right. THe producers and director would want someone to win who would pull in advertisers (money). What does that? Keeping your core demographics happy keeps viewers. I loved Mya's dancing, but she never stood a chance on the show. She wasn't happy and bubbly. She wasn't sweet and innocent. She wasn't on a show that the core demos like or sing a song they like. In other words, she didn't play the game.

When a program lose its integrity of their core value, they lose the public's respect and honor. Mya, showed great professionalism and poise during that entire show, while maintaining the true person she really is w/o playing the game. The girl showed CLASS. @AngelofMine090 She did play the game.She managed,costume designed,and collabor-ated on the choreo.She learned complex difficult professional routines,performed them w/o incident, all on an apparently misdiagnosed injury that has since required surgery.W/
o complaint asking only for simpler choreo.Her knight turned out to be relentless and that
deteriorated the chemistry and added more stress on Mya.Hard to be sweet and bubbly under those citcumstances.She was/is a consummate performer/winner!

@AngelofMine090 On the other hand, Dmitry's relentlessness in the choreography (typical male) led to some oustanding/memorable routines. It also set the standatd and opened the door for season 10's choreographers to get away with being less traditional and more creative. I THOUGHT THEIR FREESTYLE WAS BETTER THAN BENJI AND DONYELLE'S ON SYTYCD.

Uh, sorry but I have to disagree. I know Mark is popular, fun and energetic and has come up with some very good freestyles. But he is not the choreographer that Dmitry is and I don't think he and Mya would have clicked in the chemistry department. Mark is great when he's paired with people like Shawn J. and Kristi Y. but I think Mya is too much for him. Dmitry was just the MAN for her :)
If she were to be paired with anyone else I would have liked it to Maks..that would

I, personally, liked Joanna and Derek the most and wanted them to win, but I knew that there was NO WAY she could beat Mya. I was absolutely appalled when Donny won. Not that he was a bad dancer. He had just made A LOT more mistakes than Mya. And, for the record, I'm a fourteen year old girl and I did not think Derek was cute, I hate Twilight, and I hate Disney. Please don't make generalizations about teenge girls. It's quite frustrating at times.

OK. I rewatched Mya's and Donny's routines. Mya won hands down. Kim was doing most of the work. Donny is a performer with a great personality. BUT THERE'S NO WAY he's a better dancer than Mya. The demographics of the show is mostly middle-age women. Donny took them back to their young years. He was after all a teen-idol. He helped them reminisce & brought back great memories. That said, Dmitry's choreography was fresh & UNPARALLELD. Team Dmya was ROBBED. I hope he returns 4 season 10I miss him

I was so ticked Team DMYA lost, I don't even know if I want to watch this coming season, let alone bother to vote. It seems pointless since the actual good dancers don't ever win and get robbed of what they deserve.

The demographics of the show plays a major role in who wins. I felt the same disappointment when Cheryl and Gilles didn't win. He's from France so his American fan-base wasn't as strong. And let's not even talk about Maks and Mel B. Aside from Dmitry, Maks is another phenomenal choreographer. I was flabbergasted when he and Mel B didn't win. This season I hope Dmitry gets a great partner. And if Maks comes back, I wish the same for him. Those 2 are Kings without crowns..

I don't feel that way at all. I agree that mya was the bets dancer there but i felt she was too overpowering, look how she took over the choreography like she was the expert. I feel that Dancing with the stars is about celebrities who don't know how to dance come in and slowly progress. I actually wish Kelly and Louis should have won, too bad she stumbled in her routines.

I wouldn't say any of the winners are undeserving. To watch this show and appreciate it for what it is...one must realize that it is more than just a talent competition. The size/strength of fan bases fit in there, as does the demographics of the fan base vs. who watches the show. Now that the show has been on so many seasons even the pro dancers are starting to get fan bases that impact the voting.
Those that won the top prize were able to use the combination of all the factors involved.

@BHD2012 While all that is true, you have to admit, Mya's Freestyle didn't have the Wow Factor that you need in the Freestyle. I was heartbroken when I saw that Freestyle because I know that she could have done something out of this world. Dmitry's inexperience ended up catching up with them at a very vital moment.

@gracwalk Ok, I'm sorry to you and all those who like Mya but....Joanna actually did more steps....I'm not criticizing Mya at all, but for about half this dance she shook her butt and/or boobs. The actual dancing steps she did that were difficutl were fantastic, but...Joanna actually did more...you know steps. Mya's lambada was fantastic no doubt, but not difficult in technique.

@whill1031 first of all, overall mya's dance routines were more technical than joanna's. second, you talk about ass shaking as if it is a bad thing or it's derogatory. the lambada is a sensual dance. it requires ass shaking which by the way not everybody can do without looking wooden and forced like joanna. ass shaking requires loose and natural movement, but at the same time you have to have control over your body. hail ass shaking

You're very correct, I don't understand why people say things like that about Mya, and sometimes even Joanna, because first, they haven't even met them, second, it's plain out stupid, third, I'd like to see how they'd fair giving their heart and soul on this show, doing well, and then see if they don't look snobby. It's pride. I thought Mya had it, with Joanna in second as it was going, both of them were my favorites and excellent dancers. If Mya, didn't win, it should've been at least Joanna.
