  • lol everyone thinks, or rather wishes.., they look like Clara Bow. Nope. There's only one person that beautiful.

  • the music is beautifully appropriate, optimistic and timeless, yet tinged with sadness. Reminisces of a time when beautiful fragile actresses like Clara Bow were around. There never will be another Clara Bow, my dear grandmother was named after her - God Bless them both

  • Very nice. I love Clara, people around her seem to be...not useful. She's the movie.

    Ciao, from Italy

  • i have the same name as her; Clara

  • why this musical score? I like the video. Thanks for rekindling her flame.

  • I absolutely worship this woman, there will never ever be another Clara Bow.

  • She reminds me of Sarah Michelle Gellar. I know she came first, but the backwards wording I had to say it the other way around was so confusing that by the end of it, you would have forgotten my point.

  • What's the name of the movie in the last scene shown here, in the ship? Please anybody

  • @1Urganda1 All of the scenes are from Clara's signature film "IT". The last scene is I think a slowed down clip of her on the stern of the Itola regretting having turned down Cyrus's proposal. The clip order skips through the movie following the storyline, with the one of Clara getting out of the Limo slightly out of order, as it should have come first, prior to the opening Ritz dinner scenes. Interesting how a well done silent movie didn't really need dialogue.

  • Clara . . . i love you. Now and forever.

  • music id please

  • looks ok to me

  • My name is Claire and I am often the spitting image of her. Mannerisms, outlook, facial expressions, hair... the works. My nickname growing up was Clarabell and her name was Clara Bell after she was married. I've read interviews and we share the same opinions and outlook. I posted a photo of her on my Facebook and everyone thought it was me! Is there any money to be made in Clara Bow lookalike work? I could do it easy.

  • @claireyfairycake Thats odd, I'm a male and I got compared to her twice (my little brother also)

lol, I actually dont see it but I find cool that other people see the connection

  • @claireyfairycake her reputation as a foul slut and alcoholic lunatic would work against any commercial success for you. she wasn't very pretty in the nude either. she was rumored to be very low class ralph kramden new yorker. her popularity as a star faded away a long time ago. I saw one of her films she could not have any relevance in our time the 21st century.

  • @atfatw Come Now, photographically Clara was/is a beautiful doll that would appeal in any generation. She had a rough upbringing, and no one would mistake her for Claudette Colbert in person. However she was not an alcoholic as so many of the 20's stars wound up. As for those who think they resemble her, consider getting work at Universal Studios in Orlando. Betty Boop (who was modeled after her) is all the rage, and actresses dress up as Betty and mingle with guests. Boop-Boop de Boop!

  • @atfatw fuck you

  • @beaswann Same here. I look really like her! I put a picture of her on Facebook and everyone thought it was me. And watching her in motion, we have the same mannerisms. And from reading interviews, the same outlook. It creeped me out so much I started investigating my family history!

  • mon dieux qu'elle est belle!

  • i love the way,....she talkes with her eyes

  • Someone once told me I look like Clara Bow, and it is actually creepy how true it is, and even more so after watching this.

  • @beaswann if you really look like clara bow, then i definitely need to get to know you:-)

  • The original "It Girl"

  • 13 people don't got It.

  • What is this song?

  • Comment removed

  • @blindedbyduck

Yann Tiersen - La Valse D Amelie

  • I was watching Betty Boop here on Youtube, then I did some research, I found out that Clara Bow was an inspiration to the cartoon. As I read further about Clara Bow, I became an instant fan, I'm already a fan of Charlie Chaplin :3 Clara had such a sad past :( At least she died rich and famous.

  • @XXohexplosionsXX Not really: Bow is her mom: Cla - ra - Bow.....Be - tty - Boop. Three syllabus, right? And the fact that Bow was the household superstar 1926-1931 of course. Ever heard of the sweet and seductive Helen Kane? I thought so. She was a singer and provided Boop with a cute voice. That's all, but sure plenty enough.

  • We will never again see her equal, words completely fail to describe her and her art, they knew this long ago and so just gave her the title of the 'IT' girl. She was of herself the icon for a entire generation- such talent comes along but seldom.

  • I just adore her!

  • I love silent films. A wonderful addition to youtube. Thank you for sharing....

  • Betty Boob must have been drawn after her.

  • For early fourth wall check out the Vampire series made in Paris around 1918. A guy watches someone stuffing money into a wallet and each time there is a cramming of the cash the guy turns to the camera and makes a surprized look.

  • This is So EXCELLENT. A Lovely video. Thank you.

  • I have always wondered if the cartoon charicter Betty Boop, was modeled on Clara Bow??

  • Angelina Jolie mouth is great but Clara Bow mouth is a bit smaller but great too you know.

  • They just showed "It" on TCM a few days ago. It's absolutely amazing. She is amazing.

  • All scenes from the movie, "It". I wish I could come back in the 1920's as Clara Bow...

  • i have to do a biogoraphy on her in history class

  • Beautiful video. Clara is splendid in it. You have done an amazing work. Bravo

  • she really was beautiful

  • Wonderful find!

  • I'm not sure grinning at the camera constitutes breaking the 4th wall. Fatty Arbuckle gestured for the camera to move in 1917's "Coney Island," and it obliged. But again, I'm not sure, techincally, that this is breaking the 4th wall.

Shakespeare's characters oftnen addressed the audience, but even they weren't the first to break the 4th wall. That distinction belongs to the Ancient Greeks, who started breaking the 4th wall pretty much as soon as they invented drama.

  • Beautiful video

  • I have her mouth. (thought id share) lol

  • @EffLabels Send a picture of your mouth.

  • @prmass1 LOL You dont think that would be a pit creepy? I am tempted though. Anyway, people always say I have her mouth. I wish I had a Angelina Jolie mouth, but I suppose Clara Bow's will do!

  • @EffLabels I do too, and the big eyes, I think its a very european thing :)

  • @DickleBongJCockaine Lucky us! Well, I am European. What's your ethnicity?

  • I love her she was one of the great's of her time and probably still with all that Hollywood trash out there today.

  • Clara Bow is the bee's knees! =)

  • Not sure if anyone answered you question regarding the "4th wall". I do know that the film "The Great Train Robbery" did in in 1903, when a character points and shoots a gun towards the camera. It was quite a shocker in the days with people running out of the theater. Now my question is, what is the film where she looks at camera (min 1:54)?

  • I love Clara Bow. One of my favorites.

  • when she starts crying there is so much emotion, that i actually feel like crying, and it's just a couple of minutes! that's real talent!

  • whats the name of the song and where did you find it??? please reply! i really love it!!!

  • @Flabooga the song's "La valse d'Amelie (Version piano)" from the movie "Amelie"

  • I. Love. Clara Bow.

    Very epic video.

  • I would have tapped that- Cyndi Lauper circa 1920

  • Lovely tribute...from the movie "IT," starring Clara Bow.

  • @Alix1929 and i believe that that's always where the term "It Girl" originated from

  • Wow. I am now enlightened.

  • We have the same name and her birthday is 1 month and 1day apart from mine .. ( im not counting the years cos she is like 89 years r somthing older dan me :P )

  • Prior to watching this video, the only time I really ever heard of Clara Bow was on The Beverly Hillbillies, when Jed Clampett mentioned a “Clara Bow picture”. After seeing this, I can certainly say she was a very beautiful woman.

I feel much richer in my movie knowledge having watched this. Thanks very much for sharing it. Also, an excellent piece of piano music.

  • I never seen an actor, making use of every moment, communicating her character so masterful, the way Clara Bow does. Thanks "gohepcat". You opened a door I didn't knew existed.

  • What is the soundtrack called?

  • @Patsik the song is called "La Valse D'Amelie (piano version)" from the soundtrack of the movie Amélie

  • "We didn't need to talk, we had faces then!" From Sunser Boulevard.

  • "We didn't need to talk, we had faces then!" From the movie Sunset Boulevard.

  • at 1:32 she reminds me of Harley Quinn lol xD <3

  • I recently red in an article from the sixties, that Clara, with only two exceptions, insured her producers by at least a 2 to 1 safe return on their investments. Considering she appeared in more than 50 productions It's doubtful none in motion picture history can top that. It's like her notorious, still standing fan-mail record, from January 1929; 45000 mail/month. There should be a huge statue of her at her birthplace in Brooklyn.

  • It's hard to tell if she's actually breaking the fourth wall or just looking past the camera.

  • fourth wall? what do you mean?

  • Those eyes just look right thru you,

I cant take my eyes off her,

her Lip's are soo sensouos I mean I just wanna lean into the screen and just take her in my arms and kiss her till theres no tomorrow,

that think where shes on that boat and she's sad?

id be loving on her and just make her feel close and comforted,

I wouldnt be able to keep my hands off her,

  • Silent, beautiful genius...contemporary looking, attractive & sexy, and not singing or running her mouth every moment - lovely.......

    Good job on this one.

  • Bravo

  • what`s that song?

  • @dzikamarchew Its called La Valse d'Amelie by Yann Tiersen from the French movie Amelie.A wonderful film! P.S. I luv Clara Bow!

  • Thanks for the upload.

  • I love her! What an amazing star. She's definately stood out than any other actreses in her time.

  • Very Beautiful. When you see her cry like that, the emotion in her eyes it really hits your heart!

  • Pure beauty, never seen her before, but looking for more now. Does anyone else see a touch of Lysette Anthony in her

  • I LOVE CLARA my fave movie is IT

  • I'd tap her. 80 years ago.

  • Does she remind anyone else of Amelie?

  • @varanmerten haha i was just trying to remember where i remember hearing this the most.

  • thank you so much for posting this :)

  • @FireAndIce0o0: What was your project in psych class about?

  • @MissGoldenDreams13 my project was using Erikson's stages of development to determine were a person was at at specific points in there life. So I studied her biography and had to determine what stage she was at.

  • Although I've never perceived the "sexy" in women of that time, this one is really sexy! And I love her "fashion face"... Really expressive woman.

  • Wonderful acting and such expressive, beautiful eyes. I'd seen her in silents before but hadn't paid enough attention to her performances alone. Thanks for sharing!

  • Ive had this video saved in my favorites for awhile now and I have not commented yet. I love Clara Bow and your video is wonderfully done! I watch it often. Thanks so much for sharing : )

  • thank you so much for sharing this. It's absolutely beautifully done. what a captivating woman she was. I can't help but watch this over and over again.

  • i did a project on her for my psych class and was surprised that no one (including my teacher who was an older woman ) knew who she was. I just got a bunch of blank stares when i told the class who i'd studied. I thought that was sad because she was such an amazing actress.

  • @FireAndIce0o0 your psych class is full of retards, your teacher being the worst. How can anyone have not at least heard of Clara Bow? madness...

  • @Nelsonhojax15 she really was an idiot and not just for that. i did a similar project on Coco Chanel that semester and she knew who that was lol

  • I get told all the time I look like her. Of course I'm very flattered, but she was so much more beautiful!

  • @bonchatbonrat Lucky you! Haha. She is my historical beauty icon. So gorgeous.

  • @ Rouben19: Yeah, I'm a big Natalie Wood fan, and I definitely agree with you. They were both very expressive, emotionally deep actresses- and they both had the greatest brown eyes!

  • I read that dark eyes photographed better in those days, and in this video we can see why. Clara's are expressive, whether happy or gloomy. She's gorgeous, too.

  • does anyone think of NATALIE WOOD!

  • I love her so much. I've been told I look like her, but she is much much more beautiful. Such an expressive face! Gorgeous.

  • @TheIndieMod omg you look like her really?

  • If i found a womaqn like clare\a id take her away and hold her for myself and notall the jerks like on the screen with the boat and that turkey making her miserable,

  • Watching from 2:13 and 2:31 makes you wonder if she was thinking of her mother and her childhood friend Johnny...

  • @MissGoldenDreams13 exactly MissGolden.....They say that's how they got her to cry...they played the song lullabye baby on set and she thought of Johnny and how he died and she would cry instantly.

  • Amazing !

  • question, im doing a project on bow for school, and im just wondering where you found these clips, because i would like to make an imovie of bows films.

  • Does anyone know what's the name of the song? (if it has one... ^_^ hehe)

  • @MrCharlieDylon It's La Valse D'Amelie by Yann Tiersen from the movie "Amelie."

  • @Twinkcycle THANKS A LOT!!! I love that song!!! ^_^

  • I mention Bow in The Celebrity Song.

  • For Clara Bow fans I just discovered she has a fan page at myspace and two later in life pictures but the most interesting was a 1960 letter written to a fan. Thats about five years before her death which she must have been 53 yrs old. She seems very alert and alive and explains why she retired from the movie business at 26 years.

  • love her hair and makeup

  • Searched all over the internet and didn't see pictures of Clara Bow later in life. She died at age 60 but yet I didn't find any pictures after she retired from the movie busniess. Anyone had any luck?

  • @prmass1 While I don't know about pictures on the net...I believe there are some pic's of older Clara in her bio "Running Wild" by David Stern.

  • @JimmyDaKoik I saw they have it at amazon. Heck they might have it at the local library too. Thanks a lot!

  • She looks very modern...pretty cool :)

  • Once I had a dream she was my mom....totally random yet the best dream ever!!!

  • @UberObsessed

    creepy...

  • @trufiend138 Very.

  • omg what is this music its AWESOME...yeah i'm ageek shurrup

  • You people got it wrong. The "IT" girl is not Betty Boop.

  • Generally, the motivation for breaking the forth wall is to alienate the audience, to pull them out of the action and remind them that what they are engaged in is artifice. I'm not certain, but I was watching It the other day, and at 1:54 I think she's looking at Antonio Moreno. So, you might say she is breaking the forth wall, but it doesn't produce the desired effect. Please, feel free to disagree/argue, that's just my opinion.

  • @MonkeysPawHahalaba It's been awhile since I've seen "It"...but in the vid, she looks at the camera, then to her right....where I assume Moreno was. Actors looking directly at the audience, as if they were there, was fairly common in earlier comedies, (Arbuckle and Chaplin when he was doing shorts) but I don't know how much it would've been done in 1927.

  • Man, I just learned about her today, watching these early years of hollywood on youtube, and man, clara bow was one stunning woman!!!, If she was one of those teen stars today, i probably wouldve had a crush on her too, haha:)

  • Why is it all of the women that make me want to live are dead? Oh', I'm exaggerating...no I'm not. Maybe a little. Anyway, I love the silent movies as much as the sound movies up to 1939. I saw Wings in the Ohio Theater last year. Clara Bow is an audience grabber if there ever was one. I can see why she was the 'it' girl.

  • The video from Breton2Robert called: Colorful And Irresistible Clara Bow. Its very good and colorful

  • I love this song... What is it again?

  • yann tiersen -La Valse d'Amelie ( Piano Version )

  • yann tiersen - La Valse d'Amelie( Piano Version)

  • her biography is so sad and tragic..such a shame Hollywood at the time shunned and took advantage of her..she was rlly full of light despite her messed up childhood..she has the same bday as my mom ^^ Clara Bow..always the IT Girl <3

  • i love this video!! i totally agree with windyfields! :)

  • they must've been really good at lip reading back then

  • Nice song...

  • The song and Clara go perfectly together. Beautiful.

  • Beautiful! Thank you for posting this!

  • she totally blew all the other acresses away in a second, her eyes her mouth smile cheek's, thick wavy hair her personality,

I mean you just wanna pick her up and taker her away in your arms and keep her safe,

  • Wow... 1:53 gave me chills... it's like you're back there, living it, as if she's talking directly to you from ninety years ago... I adore Clara, one can never get too much of her! Thanks for posting! :D

  • She was breathtaking. You can never have too much Clara Bow. Thanks for posting this, gohepcat.

  • I HIGHLY DOUBT that Clara was schizophrenic simply because the doctors at the Institute For Living had absolutely NO PROOF to back their claims up.

It was very common for women to be diagnosed with depression and schizophrenia back then without any PROOF from the doctors that treated them. Oftentimes, they'd just say that the women were "hysterical" and needed bed rest.

    What idiots they were!!

  • She was a wild thing! I like her eyes a lot, and her haircut!

  • Thank you so much!!!!

  • She was absolutely gorgeous, with a simply heartbreaking smile. Thank you for posting this.

  • I get chills at 1:53 when she stares at the camara and smiles, you see beauty but sadness at the same time. She was Earth Shattering beautiful.

  • In a facebook quiz it said i was her...?

  • shes was a famous flappers actress from the 20's (:

  • I get to dress up as her for a school project :)

  • Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) was right. They had faces. They didn't need dialogues. Wonderful period. Great movies ! Thanks for this very nice tribute to Clara Bow.

  • What wonderful eyes; such a spirited, funny yet tragic woman. More on Clara Bow career, lovers and background. Sirens of The Roaring 1920's - Clara Bow

  • The music from Amelie!!! :D Love it!

  • Great tribute to beautiful Clara and the music is perfect.

  • I never read that she had mental illness, and addiction problems. I will have to look again.

I love this movie. She is adorable to watch.

  • The Institute For Living diagnosed her as being schizophrenic in some way, which was supposed to explain her complaints of physical ailments, despite the fact that medical doctors could find nothing wrong. For me, I think her physical/mental problems stemmed from her leaving the screen. She thrived on the adulation of her 'fan friends', and the 45000 letters she was recieving a week in 1928, moreso than the money ever did. Had doctors considered this, they might have prescribed screen time.

  • music???!??!?

  • Its Yann Tiersen

  • What's this piece of music?

  • It's from the soundtrack to the movie "Amelie."

  • @jasonsbrain2 I thought so :)

    Thank you

  • Such a sad, tragic life. I always feel so bad for her in her real life. Poverty, abuse, addiction, mental illness. Tragic.

  • My god shes attractive.

  • dittos on all.... what a beauty!

  • it's strange to see things like this, when you realize that people today aren't so different from people then

  • Such a beautiful woman.

  • hello guys i do hav clara bows wings on dvd the 1st movie ever to get an oscar also i do hav 1931 cimmaron

  • Clara Bow must have got in line twice when thet handed out cute! Nice Video.

  • She is so beautiful! One of the best female actresses of all time. I love her :).
