ZJ, at one church I attended for awhile, a brother said, "If someone asks you to prove to them that God exists, you can't. All you can tell them is, you just know." You can feel that God is there with you, if you are a Christian. I believe that you can show God's presence to others by acting as God would have you act to other people. However, at the end of the day, if someone can't see it, you can't physically prove it to them. You just know.

There are plenty of ancient writings that speak of other gods (the Illiad for example, or the Epic of Gilgamesh from which the Bible has taken some of its material), so what makes the Bible more trustworthy?

The Bible is the best known of those books, because it is the basis for Christianity. Other than that, the fact that a book is well known is not a sign that it is true. In the ancient world the Illiad was much more well known. And Gilgamesh before it.

I just think a lot of things have gotton mixed up in translation. @jasminesdeath There are no discrepancies or contradictions in the bible. Read it for all of its worth. If it seems to contradict, then you read the whole text and how it relates to the rest of the teaching in the bible. Two separate accounts within the same book, if not the same don't mean they're contradictory, just different. Example being the account of creation. Both are versions are accurate, just different in aspect.
@GypsyLeah You have a lot of ideas. There are capable scholars who have answered your questions. The Torah which I think you might have some problems with has two accounts of the same events. In Genesis has two accounts of creation. The theory goes that when Israel broke into two kingdoms there were two sets of books. When the Torah was being put back together after hundred of years of exile, set we included.

ZJ, at one church I attended for awhile, a brother said, "If someone asks you to prove to them that God exists, you can't. All you can tell them is, you just know." You can feel that God is there with you, if you are a Christian. I believe that you can show God's presence to others by acting as God would have you act to other people. However, at the end of the day, if someone can't see it, you can't physically prove it to them. You just know.

There's no logic in that, you could use that argument for the easter bunny as well as God. What else did Jesus say? Clearly since the Christian belief system has no actual ties to a supernatural power or realm little safe-guards had to be interpolated into the bible in a desperate attempt to ensure the more deluded and weak minded of its adherents would remain adherents. There are plenty of ancient writings that speak of other gods (the Illiad for example, or the Epic of Gilgamesh from which the Bible has taken some of its material), so what makes the Bible more trustworthy?

The Bible is the best known of those books, because it is the basis for Christianity. Other than that, the fact that a book is well known is not a sign that it is true. In the ancient world the Illiad was much more well known. And Gilgamesh before it.

I just think a lot of things have gotton mixed up in translation. As a result they learn about this characters horrible acts with preconceived notions. Other than that athiest in foxhole arguement is old and disproven.

@jasminesdeath There are no discrepancies or contradictions in the bible. Read it for all of its worth. If it seems to contradict, then you read the whole text and how it relates to the rest of the teaching in the bible. Two separate accounts within the same book, if not the same don't mean they're contradictory, just different. Example being the account of creation. Both are versions are accurate, just different in aspect.

@GypsyLeah You have a lot of ideas. There are capable scholars who have answered your questions. The Torah which I think you might have some problems with has two accounts of the same events. In Genesis has two accounts of creation. The theory goes that when Israel broke into two kingdoms there were two sets of books. When the Torah was being put back together after hundred of years of exile, set we included.
