Joey Petroni's you tube video instructed my cousin to use old paint mixed with wall spackle to grout his tile. Now it's all chipping up. I know the wall spackle can be used for various projects, but to hold a tile in place?
nice valleys! love the idea of clay hips and ridges but just not feelin the goo. mortar seems to have been fine for thousands of years. great lookin roof though. how lucky to have joe jenkins on your roof!
I was a consultant on a new slate roof installation (for the owner) where the owner sued the contractor because standard mortar was used when setting the ceramic hip and ridge tiles. It apparently rained when the mortar was still wet and the mortar streaked white stains down the new black slate roof, then dried. Sometimes a new product comes along that will prevent such disasters. This is one of them.
never seen rounded valleys before, they look great.
i am a roofing contractor in london and always used mortar and hip-runners when laying ridge.

I used clay tile barrells on on my single roof on the hips and ridges. Looks great
and did'nt have to use a nailing strip either! Should'nt the strip be made with "treated" lumber?
