In fact there were many great and genious russian artists who even influenced western artists( Vrubel-Picasso,Tchelischev-Dali),but nobody really knows about it because a lot of masterpieces of Russian or Soviet art was undiscovered and unknown because of political tension between East and West and Cold War.This political antagonism deprived nation of cultural exchange and discoveries.Great that today internet and youtube exists and permits to see everithing
nov was a great artist, even genious becouse he created a unique vision and aproach to art painting .He was a man of strong and great spirit, deep inspiration despite of difficult life and very sad end (he died of hunger during faschists blockade of St Petersburg in winter 1941).
Discovered this painter today. Moved. Astonishing that a political regime can prevent such important art to be locked up for so long. I will visit the State Russian Museum in St-Petersburg this summer. I will not miss him.
I was extremely impressed by this artist when I saw a retrospective at the State Russian Museaum in St Peterburg. I thought it strange that a contemporary of his Kandinsky got all the acclaim and Filonov was condemned to obscurity (atleast in the west) he was a far more interesting artist in almost every perspective. Thanks for the Video.
First saw his painting the great war at that impressionists exhibition at the R.A, I was gobsmacked by that painting, I stood there in complete awe for ages, never have I been so struck by a painting. Pre Rahaelites are my thing really but Filonov rocks and nobody I know has ever heard of him.
how intensely strange, I thank the great gods...awesome stuff came out of the Russian Silver Age these works remind me of the awesome works of Khlebnikov whose books bear Filonov's art, o ye gods
great impressive paintings

greatest artist from the past century by a mile, if no one knows him is because of the stupid media promoting clowns like warhol .
