  • Question? If I erase my hard drive and remove the Truecrypt software that's currently on my computer, will my password protected files still work once I reinstall Windows with another Truecrypt program, or are my files and password connected to this particular Truecrypt program that's currently on my computer?

  • Is it possible to encrypt an existing partition?

  • @OldSchool710 J can be used for what ever container you mount. Delete the files when done, or just format the partition.

  • @techwg Okay, thanks.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! It definitely helped me and I appreciate you for taking time to do this tutorial for the public. :)

  • great video , thanks !

  • I'm starting college in August, but is common sense and perhaps a laptop lock enough for protection? If the laptop stays in the dorm then it will be secured to something, but if I'm on-the-go with it then it'll be glued to me like nobody's business (I've spent a couple hundred upgrading it to avoid buying a new computer - it's not something I'll just leave lying around).

  • I tried refreshing the Drives but it won't give me H:/ for my flash memory stick... Help?

  • @jwwang258 reboot. A drive letter won't show up in truecrypt if its used by something else. If you mount a container on a flash memory stick, you must mount it as a different letter.

  • thanks for the help!

  • ty for the vid, saved me from reading one hundred pages of mind numbing text. now i can actually save my passwords and bank info on my computer instead of multiple post-it notes! hello 21st century-

  • Thanks, you really helped me. Now i can encryp my passwords in simple txt file and then just copy them while i'm login somwhere. I'm not afraid of key-logers any more.

  • Thanks so much :D

  • This was extremely helpful. Thank you.

  • I have a question. If an attacker acquires your IP, can he or she access your encrypted system/drives?

  • @TurboRonin83 No they can not access anything unless your computer is insecure.

  • @techwg So if your computer is hacked remotely and the TC volume is not mounted, then they can't access it ? But what if the drive is mounted ? Also, if the entire system is encrypted, will an attacker be able to see your files over the internet?

  • @TurboRonin83 If someone is able to steal your password by infecting your system with a key logger then everything is able to be accessed. Long as your network is secure you will not be accessed. If your partitions or containers are NOT mounted then nobody can access anything.

  • Absolutely THE best encryption software that i've seen up to date. great for portable encryption like cd's and dvd's.

  • What if I or someone deletes the file that you create by accident or deliberately? lost what I had stored there? central disk recover that space again?

  • in that case its a file like any other. If you delete it its gone and you have the free space again

  • thx :D

  • its too complicated for me :(

  • Actually its very easy. The difference is you have to put a password in, in order to access the files.

  • cat?

  • nice

  • thnk you so much

  • I got an error about 20% it says CRC error, can someone help me? :/
