@Sharmika you are a fucking idiot, that's soul that you're hearing. And anything can be a country song. Go be a lawyer or something. Your career as a music critic is doomed, you're obviously either deaf or plain ignorant...
@Sharmilka can't you see that the song is about don't giving up yourself? it isn't about the kind of a song it's a song that talks to your deep soul(if you have one)...
@Sharmilka i didn't called you a ''idiot'' i just said the music doesn't change even if the kind changes or the singers,''Don't Give Up'' will always mean what it has always meant
Fantastic song, but this is the manic depressed version. I think Willie really has given up all hope the way he sings it. Maybe that's what he's after here but I don't like it at all. It's depressing, uninspired, lacking all hope.
Peter and Kate's version is healing and uplifting. It's filled with hope and desire which makes me never want to give up. That's what I love about it.
No I really like this one, it has a tenderness and poignancy that works (for me anyway) Willie sounds beaten and lost and Sinead sounds sweet, gentle and hopeful. Its subtle and powerful IMO I LOVE it, thanks for posting :-)
I would like to here peter Gabriel with baldy.... that would be the dream voice combo for this song... Kate Bush sounds weird... Sinead has a cute voice.. and a cute face.. Plus i hate the pope too... he is a d bag.. Willey just sounds baked to me...
@BP3DP Peter has sung this live with Sinead, but he and Sinead have both agreed the greatest artist is Kate Bush. Probably why Peter wanted her on his third album. Keep listening. The 'weird' is just that you're not getting it yet.
Both versions are excellent...but just to digress a bit.... a Satanic black and white cat is chewing through my door and I don't have long before it cuts a way in and rips out my throat.
This is an amzing version of an amazing song. Not to take anything away from Gabriel's and Bush's version, though...I love them both equally. Although I hate that they didn't include the part of the bridge that starts "Rest your head...you worry too much"
@tommyburgos Yes! I love Sinead, just not as much as Kate, and while I'm a big fan of Peter Gabriel, I don't even "respect Willie as an artist." So, like a fool, I wouldn't listen to this cover for years. Boy, was I blown away. Sinead chooses to use her reliable, if understated, breathy voice. But Willie just BLEW ME AWAY with his masterful reinvention of Peter's part. Even if you find it devoid of hope, you have to admire the intensity with which he conveys it.
@tommyburgos Together, they create a rare example of two very different voices perfectly enhancing each other. But, ultimately, you are so right - why no "Rest your head...you worry too much... It's gonna be all right!" ? That was THE best part!!!
This is my favorite version. It may not be polished, however it is more relatable. Both because of the vocal talent and the hardships Willie and Sinead have endured in life.
1st X Factor winner Steve Brookstein & his beautiful jazz artist wife Eileen Hunter are releasing a cover of this Dec 13 2010 to raise money & awareness for StreetSmart homeless charities. Check out QRistmas dot come for more info.
I forget where I read it or who said it but he said Willie Nelson doesn't sing to you - he talks to you! I love this song, this video and the two highly individualistic artists who sing it here.
This song is more appropriate now than it has ever been. Keep your families strong, and above all remember who you truly are. Be proud, but not arrogant. Stand for what is right regardless of what happens to you, and above all stick together.
The original version is always better, no matter what the song is. It remains tatooed in our minds.
However I pity the idiots who would lift a finger of criticism against Willie Nelson. He never does anything half assed, and gives every song his own personal touch.
Nelson and O'Conner vs Gabriel and Bush; why even try to compare when certainly there is no "winner". Only differences of taste. For the money, Sinead has heart and guts, and guts is enough.
Better than Bono and Keys but not as good as the original Gabriel and Bush. Gotta give Nelson and O'Connor some credit, though. Actually, they do quite a respectable cover.
...this was a strange combo...I was about ready to click on the next version of this song until Sinead O'Conner started singng and looked me dead in the eye! After that I was captured. She is the strong supportive spirit for the struggling man in this song and she does more than enough...and why are my eyes so cloudy??

Sinead sounds good, cause her voice is similar to Kate Bush. But Willie doesn't sound right, and the song loses a lot of it's emotion behind all the country twang. Good try, but the wrong execution.
I really like the way Willie delivers it almost in a speaking manner. Sinead has a beautiful voice as always. Willie's tireless history of assisting poor farmers and his own personal economic collapse make it more meaningful to me.
this great performance proves that being a rebel and sounding honest has nothing to do with age, An older man and a young woman nailed this song magnificently !
Sinead O'Connor murders the original here, she tries to take off Kate Bush rather than sing her own natural way, just awful. The original could never be beaten, terrible version.
Thats odd because I remember hearing this song years ago and thinking it was the greatest song I had ever heard. Just listened to the Kate Bush version. To me its okay but no where near as good as this version.
I like the song however, I'm not sure about this relationship they are trying to sell me on ... I mean Sinead you need to look at Willie in the eyes ..look like you mean it !!!! at least use the same film reel my Lord!!!

This pretty much sucked. Willie was good, very effective in his usual minimalist way, but Sinead...she's got a great voice, and she should have done a great job on this, but her performance here just totally blows.

Quite an uncommon pairing, but they sound pretty good together. I will always love Sinead. A true artist!

no fight left it seems, no one wants you when you lose, don't give up, you still have us...gotta walk outta here, keep my eyes down low, don;t give up, we're proud of who you are...i believe there's a place where we belong...
