What a voice. Best in country,,,,, now and then. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. wonder what they are waiting for? Thank you, Gene, for your wonderful gifts to us.
I am in my fifty's and been a fan of Country all my life, especially this style. But somehow I have never heard Gene Watson's music until today on Sirius Radio... Now I am torn wether to be sad that I missed it for all these years or happy that found it now and it's all new to me :) Either way what a wonderful artist and soulful voice...
This song Farewell Party was a last minute surprise. He (Gene Watson) was thru recording, However he had a little studio time remaining that was already paid for. He recorded this song and it changed most everything with him & to use the old cliché The rest is HISTORY !! Just in-case you wanna know??
This should be for my three ex-wives! I know they'll be glad to see me gone! Too bad I'm gonna out live all of them....bring me another beer and shut the front door!
i played this song and many of the other great country songs in matagorda and surrounding counties in texas in the 60's and i was just a 14 year old drummer, all the other musicians were in their 30's and 40's, man i thought they were old, now i'm 59 years young...domingo perales
@domino3841 right on domino. In our youth in the early '70s, my friends and I used to go to a small country store/bar at night in La Ward, near Lavaca City. We'd sneak beers and listen to great country on the juke box, where I first heard this song. I still fish Gorda time to time.
This is a beautiful song and what a fantastic singer. Gene Watson is a legend. Brilliant voice . The last note was incredible. Thanks for this wonderful post.
MY FATHER TOLD ME AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY THAT THIS WAS THE 1 SONG HE WANTED PLAYED AT HIS FUNERAL SERVICE AND THE LAST DAY OF HIS WAKE IT WAS PUT ON REPEAT AND THEN EVERY CAR ON THE WAY TO THE BURIAL HAD A COPY OF IT TO PLAY AS WE WENT TO GO BURY HIM AND IT PLAYED AS ME AND MY BROTHER MOTHER AND SISTER AND AUNTS AND UNCLES AND COUSINS BURIED HIM OURSELVES .... ITS JUS TO DISRESPECTFUL FOR NE1 ELSE TO THROW DIRT ON UR FAMILY IF ITS TIME TO BURY THEM THE FAMILY SHOULD BE THE 1'S DOING IT
this was one of my mothers favorite songs.. i remember sitting in front of the computer for hours years ago just trying to find it for her.. i wish she was here now so she can see just how easy it is to find now!!
This is one of the songs you sent me....OMG ...i didn't realize it was for you....John Cole...i will never forget you and your songs....i love you and will miss you so much...
i cant listen to this song without crying....they played this song at my great aunt donna's funeral and she used to sing kareoke so they played this song with her singing it....i miss her so much...she was in the hospital and her small intestin ruptured and she had been going through pain for 13 years and she finally left us...she was a wonderful woman...she died right before her 50th birthday...we allready had her birthday party planned and everything...i sometimes just sit and cry to this song
@MUDCHICK1997 I can't help crying either. I listen to this song for a couplr of my family members that were taken on Dec.27 2010. We played this song at thier funeral because they loved it.
I am looking for the one with lyrics: "If I must live alone I'd rather do it by myself." I can't find it anywhere. I love his singing and would love to hear that one again.
yeah that song describes my life: no one cares. That said, Gene Watson = very very talented, to say the least. (I won't even have a funeral, nor a burial). Yes there's a reason why. But you'll have to ask me on my channel if you're curious. I won't put it here.
