Hi. I will be transfering soon, i want to know the right university for me. Im majoring in the paramedic field. I live in il. But I was also wondering If The University Of Il. offers a paramedic major?
Can someone plz tell me how do you get accepted to this beautiful university ive been wanting to go here sooo bad i would like to do pre med all you out there that have been accepted plz tell me your GPA and ACT and what you did to ghet into this university it will b greastly appriciated
@d6cookiemonster I attended Uchicago for two years and am taking some time off. So far it has been the worst experience insofar as their is this stench of negativity intrinsically existent in the environment of the campus. The students can't help but to always talk about how much work they must complete before a certain deadline or how hard this or that midterm is going to be At the same time, the quarter system (10 weeks) is too short and condensed for students to legitimately comprehend much
@d6cookiemonster I got in with a 3.8 unweighted GPA and a 35 ACT if that helps. Not that uchicago really cares about that stuff. For them, essays and recommendations are more important, and almost everyone who gets in has a natural passion and curiosity for knowledge. Good luck!
Thanks so much, I loved watching this. I graduated 35 years ago and the campus still looks the same! Brings back some great memories of one of the finest universities in the world, now rated #1 (out of 361schools) by the Princeton Review for best academic experience!
@ant0nsch im thinking about going into pre med can you plz tell me how you got accepted in to this beautiful university its my only dream is going here plz im a high school student iand i ve gotten many university letters but i want to go here!plz help
UC has a very theoretical slant to their curriculum. Even a lot of their math courses are presented with an abstract element. I wouldn't say that this is a good thing; sometimes, it needs to be made more applicable to the real world. The world doesn't, afterall, operate on theory. The world operates on reality, and theory is meant to be a guidepost to interpret reality...a means to an end rather than the end itself.
I went to U of Chicago back in 97, even though I was also accepted to Columbia, Emory, Washington U-St. Louis and Cornell. Unfortunately, I failed out due to missing too many classes like a fool.
UChicago "meterial". Sorry please explain, as a student here, we are not an Ivy League or school that is full of ourselves, we do not produce "material". Each student comes from a unique background and each admission is read for it's uniqueness, especially when it all comes down to the essay(which isn't general at all, UC has the most complicated essays than any other school. By the way, I do not own a thesaurus but I appreciate your compliment. And because we're all about saving ourselves the pain of spending time doing what douchebags do best (insult people and institutions on the Internet... take that society!), I'd suggest you not to reply to me again. I'm not going to read your flattering words, so you might as well just swallow your immense hatred toward me (which, I guess, I deserve—after all I eat puppies, rape children and, hey! don't hate Chicago).
Perhaps you think you're "all that" because you're sitting here calling everyone that goes to U of C an idiot. Admissions to the top schools in this country is a sick game without ANY rules. That's just how it is. You win some, you lose some. Stop saying that everyone who goes to this nationally top-ranked school is an idiot, and stop saying that they'll all end up at Starbucks. A person from a community college might get farther in life than one from Harvard. It's up to the person. So grow up.
You sound more upset than all of the commenters here put together. You're the only one responding to every message with insults. You don't even have any evidence for the stuff you're saying!
@phoenixdef how did you get accepted pola tell me its my dream going to this university i want to go into pre med plz reply back whenever you get this even if its 2 yrs from today plz
if you are white you will love this school, but if you are a minority who was 'lured' into this campus, you will find it to be a bit too white supremacist.
Sounds like yet another angry minority. Face facts, you're a failure because of your defective nigger genes, son. The White Man is only trying to help you.
I wonder, how many Uchicago alumni have you met? Your claims are interesting, but you fail to offer evidence to support them and in doing so you have made yourself look rather incompetent. Since I am sure you're not, I'd like to invite you to openly defend your views (or to offer legitimate evidence if you wish to state your opinions as fact). As an alumni, I am interested in learning where you came up with all of those fascinating theories of yours. Who knows, you might be right.
Almost 50 years ago, a few of them stopped studying long enough to form the Second City comedy troupe. And the rest is history. They know how let their hair down when they want to;-) It's all in who you hang with.

With all of Hyde Park (and the rest of Chicago) at your disposal!? Please. Just pick up a Chicago Reader(free)at Ida Noyes Hall every Thursday and take it from there.
You might end up having a little too much fun. Just remember to hit those Great Books once in a while;-) And for God's sake, always remember that Hyde Park is surrounded by poor, tough neighborhoods (same as Yale, Columbia and USC.) ALWAYS STAY AWARE, especially at night.
It's who you know AND what you know. You may get a job because of connections, but if you don't know what you're doing or learn FAST, you won't have it very long.
somebody sounds bitter. I'm willing to put money on Openuniverse being denied admission to Chicago. I bet he is at a state college in some rural area . I'm also willing to bet he will be my boss someday.
I guessing you either hired or worked with or for a U.of C. grad who didn't laugh at your jokes or join the gang for a beer after work. It doesn't mean all U.of C. grads are "eggheads", as you put it, and lacking in social skills. Maybe it just meant they don't like beer and your jokes weren't that funny, "blood".
U. of C. students and grads? You want to weigh in on the "egghead" debate?
People at UC are just like any other students, I'm a freshman there and know many people. And yes they do drink on campus, in fact it's allowed in dorms if your over 21, what campus doesn't have alcohol? Anyway, I don't drink, and the people here aren't antisocial, that's just a stereotype that meets up to the excess studying where humorly "fun comes to die".
can't decide if I should go to here or Emory, have only 5 days left to decide...any advice? (fun comes to die is the only thing that is slightly scaring me away)

I've decided and I'm going to the UofC. It has the academics that I want, and while I feel that emory offers a better social life, you make your own college experience. There are four thousand kids at Chicago, I will find people who are athletic and social. But I won't find Chicago's academics anywhere else. Besides, worst comes to worst, you can always transfer.
for those of you worried about the constant book reading, you shouldnt; after reading Homer and Nietzsche all week you always have the option of frat partying or taking part in the myriad of activities weekends at the University offers

This was about 6:30 in the morning. I had gone to videotape a minor fire at the Regenstein Library, which turned out to be extremely minor - the firetrucks were already leaving. But it was a beautiful, warm morning, and I decided to film around the Quadrangle and the Midway.
well although my profile says that i am 21 or something i am really 17. i applied to U of Chicago for early and a lot of people told me that U of C is a beautiful school but it's filled w/ a lot of book worms who study all day and have no meaningful social life. is this true?
The truth, as usual, lies somewhere in between. As at any school, it all depends on who you hang out with.
If you're worried about what your friends are saying, maybe they're jealous. If you've even bothered to apply to an elite school like U of C, it means you've got a good head on your shoulders. Some people are threatened by that (I can't understand why).
i only wish i felt this blissful after walking a mile from shoreland in 0* weather in mid February. This place is beautiful, dont get me wrong, but it is pure hell between nov.-march
Ah, but it makes April through October that much more special. Year-round 72-degree weather is so boring;-) And I say that as one who endured the Great Snows of '67 and '79. And a very cold, snowy winter of '07 videotaping the demolition of the last Robert Taylor Homes highrise.
Panasonic PV-GS300 (now replaced by the GS320). Great camera, but the battery life with the standard battery is barely an hour. With the bigger, long-life battery from Eveready I can get four hours easily.
I live in Chicago not too far from this place. That is a VERY expensive school to attend. I went to DeVry instead

Anyone who attended the UofC should know where everyone is - off studying, of course!
This is the best place to go to college in the entire world. I highly recommend attending if you get in. Go Maroons!!

And a very cold, snowy winter of '07 videotaping the demolition of the last Robert Taylor Homes highrise.

hey mac what kind of camera do you use?
montell82 4 years ago
Panasonic PV-GS300 (now replaced by the GS320). Great camera, but the battery life with the standard battery is barely an hour. With the bigger, long-life battery from Eveready I can get four hours easily.
