I feel that is quite harsh. James Hetfield has a very distinctive voice, and it is quite gravelly and throaty, but it isn't monster-like. It isn't generic metal growling.

Shortly after this Hetfield has his voice incident, and learned to sing 'properly.' He then became a table.
