Crazy beginning. I love what the drummer and the guitarist do at 3:43. James Morrison is the man! Trumpet section sound totally different when he sits out the melody after the trumpet section improv.
I WAS THERE!! what a great night. Was visiting Sydney with some RM friends and we got tickets. Amazing gig, then afterwards James sat with us chatting 'till the early hours before one of the other trumpeters took us down the famous 'Bourbon&Beefsteak' in Kings Cross. James Morrison......the worlds greatest musician and gentleman.
mouthpiece has nothing to do with it...diaphram and lung capacity...i used to play the tuba then pick up my trumpet for jazz practice....my stomach was rock hard...i started w a 7c and then moved to a 1...these guys are amazing though...when you can take a song like i used to do and take the chorus up an octive, now thats fun...
there are special mouthpieces for it, i personally make use of a kelly screamer (plastic i know but effective) for when i actually need anything above super F or G... its a 3c standard though, always bach...
This TeeVee commercial for Tide laundry detergent never aired... the censors wouldn't allow the skid marks and poo kisses on the 5 undershorts to be shown on the TeeVee.
Scream Machine was filmed live at "The Basement" in Sydney Australia 10th October 2001. There was an audio CD (Studio recording) and it was also available and a DVD.
The track listing on the DVD was Scream Machine, Chameleon, Desert Sands, Caravan, Ease On In, Froot, Con Alma, Fugue II, Up Late.
No, it is all embrochure and strength in the face muscles to create a very tight hole to pump the air through, backed by strong intercostal muscles and diaphragm. Pumping air through at a high velocity.
@trom94 Diaphragm has nothing to do with it. What pushes the air out is the muscles surrounding the lungs. The diaphragm is a misunderstanding in brass playing :). Since the diaphragm is such a small muscle i mean... Nothing wrong whith your thesis though. Air is always key. Not the lips.
They don't really have special mouthpieces but, I can guarantee you, their not playing a 7C. Most jazz players do have a mouthpiece made to their specifications. But even at that, they can probelly still play perfectly, on any mouthpiece you give them, it just may be more difficult to player higher notes.
I might not know much, but personally the only reason I use the mouthpiece I use is for pure comfort, not ease of range or anything. Of course, if its comfortable, you'll probably play better on it.
What a beasty guitar solo! How didnt those strings catch on fire!?!?!

no they don't need "special mouthpeices" it's called "range".
He is a BEAST!
Flippinpinoy09 3 years ago 28
Agreed! But they would probably use shallower mouthpieces for a piece like this that wont even enter the staff.

dont they have special mouthpieces that they use to hit those high notes?
XxSlimxBeatxX 3 years ago
They could, but it's all about air.

you get shitty tone if u squeeze the notes out with the lips, you have to use ur diaphragm to get clarity.
