Like with Bob Wills & Ray Price they broke the mold with Charlie Walker came along. You know, they broke LOTS of "music molds" down here in Texas thru the years.
my mother was so sweet to name me after this song. it wasnt to bad until mr. whipple said it was "okay to squeeze the charmin because it brings you back for more" that was my 10th grade year of high school!!!!!
My Dad named me after this song as well! Everytime I hear this song I think of my Dad as he passed away when I was six but am so thankful that he named me after such a wonderful song that he loved so much!
Brings back great memories of SA in the 50s and all the fun we had dancing to Charlie and his songs along with frequent trips to Bandera to dance under a Texas moon to The Bandera Waltz. Charlie always introduced himself as polk(?sp)salad eating, tobacco chewing, snuff dipping, etc Charlie Walker. I love to dance and the new western swingbands still play his songs. A great tribute!
This was my Dad's favorite song, he used to sing it to us, and he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!! Thank you for posting this I have been trying to find this, my father was killed at a very young age and this is a wonderful reminder of our childhood!
jhardy, I also listened to Charlie while he was a DJ in San Antonio while I was in high school in the late fifties. Was trying to remember which station. I think it was KONO.
@alicefay Charlie DJ'd 10 years for KMAC in San Antonio. Known as Ol' polk salad, cotton picking, boll pulling, corn shucking, snuff dipping, Charlie Walker. Was voted to DJ Hallof Fame at that time.
Awesome song RIP Charlie Walker

Nice video. I always thought he might have know Hillary back in the 60s and sang "I Wouldn't Take Her a Dog Fight" just for her.
But I guess not. He sang some really good honky tonk stuff for sure. I listened to him all through high school and beyond.
