Rush Limbaugh: Earth Hour Will Only do Harm

Rush, for Earth Hour I stopped breathing to reduce the carbon dioxide that I contribute as hideous green house emissions, unfortunately I passed out and on the way down accidently turned on my electric coffee maker and space heater (I hit the switches with my head). My question is did the lack of my breathing make up for the coffee pot and electric heater coming on or I'm I am environmental disgrace?

It's stupid symbolism. It effectively achieves nothing, and participating in it shows others you don't have enough technical background to realize the futility of the exercise. As I understand it, having a large change in power consumption from the grid can be a burden to management systems. I'm all for cutting down on energy consumption but Earth Hour is counterproductive, especially when it takes more energy to start the lights again, not so much with incandescent bulbs..

@AttackMyAss Mythbusters tried it. Even with incandescent lights avoiding the turn-on power consumption peak will save you 15ms of normal operation drain. MYTH BUSTED.

Rush makes a terrible argument against earth hour.

..because we will all have sex in the dark with lead condoms... and ...because we will have to pay more for electricity..right. Number one- every one obviously does not have sex every time the lights are out.

Two- sex does not always result in pregnancy, and especially if there is use of a condom--and furthermore, if the condom had lead in it I would assume the woman would face much worse consequences than pregnancy.

I gave into the "go green" fiasco and went out and purchased $380 worth of energy efficient light bulbs. Well the 1st month or 2 my utility bill did decrease. Shortly after that my rate increased by 2 pennies per kilowatt.

So saving the Earth may be the goal but saving money is not part of the plan

What u might really want to ask yourself is are you really saving the earth? I mean think about it, electricity is a very clean fuel source. If its so bad for the enviornment, why are we trying to initiate the use of green cars that youre gonna have to plug into the wall, and shoot your power bill trhu the roof? So the enviormental extremests can sell u more worthless shit like those lightbulbs you mentioned. lol

I think he needs to realize that this isn't about turning off lights to prove something small but to overall create a symbolic act that may resonate with the people. If Limbaugh believes that a few people turning off their lights will affect taxes than he must be a hypocrite.

If there is one thing that Rush has taught me and that's a few left winger liberals could never make a difference; Rush is scared he'll be proved wrong.

Limbaugh's arguments are classified as a logical fallacy called Slippery Slope. It's kind of funny that he feels threatened enough by this that he actually had to spend three minutes of his show ranting about it. If you don't like, don't do it! I know you're a skeptic of global warming, Rush, so why don't you turn on ALL your lights and other electronic devices and off-set my "feel-good" sheep-behavior.

I've actually learned about the slippery slope fallacy, too...I couldn't help but think of it the entire time I was watching this video. Not to mention the fact that he uses more ad hominems than I've seen in days..this argument does not hold water. Good for Rush for those who believe him, I would like to hope for more out of all of those who are actually being Rush's "sheep." Very contradictory to say you hate them, but try to get some of your own at the same time, Limbaugh...

Rush is not the only one that "gets it", there are others, Shaun Hannity, Glenn Beck. Don't believe them, don't take their word, get off your lazy butts and research. Be careful though, you might find yourself agreeing with Rush.

I left lights on, PCs left on, made sure I was charging cellphones, camera batteries, made sure the light was on outside by my dog pen. You want to shut your lights off, fine, but I don't want to pay more for my electricity because of people's ignorance.
