  • "It's a Mustache kinda morning, with my Jeans, Jean Shirt, and Jean Jacket" - Family Guy

Suddenly reminded of this when I saw what Arlo's wearing in this.

  • What the Joe Hill? That's two guys signifying complete personal freedom while devoid of any personal choice just jamming along having fun in the face of adversity.

Please do live the dream for the rest of us. Wee need you still.

  • Arlo's not 70....

  • never thought i would get to sing along with arlo but i drove 90 miles in a sleet storm to catch the effingham il stop of the city of new orleans tour to help the entainers of that city,,the room was 50x70 at the most, fantastic night

  • Arlo just turned 70 a couple-three weeks ago. I don't know how old Willie was this past April 30th but he ain't no spring chicken. Our national treasures are aging fast and I am soo F---ing grateful to have lived whille thay have.

  • @ninnypoohwho

    Arlo will be 64 July 10th. :)

  • @ninnypoohwho where are you getting your information there? Today is Arlo's 64th. Happy birthday, Mr. Guthrie!

  • the fact that there are 15 dislike as of the time of this posting proves that there is evil active in the world

  • how i wih i could see willie nelson AND arlo guthrie, and performing together! all i would need is bob dylan and i could die a happy little lady...

  • great song..terrible version.

  • Great!!

  • Two legands that will never fall!

  • Not sure why a few people aren't getting the spirit of this performance, Yes, it was a little rushed, but it's meant for all to sing along with and enjoy. I admit that I am very partial to Willie, Arlo and their families' music, but even so, it's done as a rousing ending to a show, I think. It's never a bad song!

  • we sung this at my dads funeral this past week,at the burial, he would have loved it, loves ya dad ol buddy, rest peacefully as i knows you are xoxxo

  • fuck nazi tube

    \

  • Thank You again``:D !!!

  • uncle jesse :)

  • this was a great 2 night event for a great cause - to help musicians in new orleans after katrina and i'm proud to have been there. ALL family members plus the others that were there took turns playing and singing so it wasn't mainly arlo and willie!

  • Awesome! The two r my all time favs along with The Beatles and Pete Seeger ....

  • Awesome!!!

  • they should do more together.

  • way to go i grow uped on this

  • @kwinny09 for a min i thought you said "grow opd" lol...yep I was raized thusly too.

  • This is country music should sound!!!!

  • @Rudewomantt yup, not any of that commercial bullshit they call new country. amen brother. this is a great find.

  • R.I.P. M ammalee....

  • ♥ ∞ love ∞ ♥ ~ ♥ ∞ trust ∞ ♥

  • first of all I really do appreciate both Willie and Arlo, but with this song not only are the guitars out of tune with each other, they haven't put much into this song. I have have heard it sang many times and this is a very rushed version which is why I made that previous comment. They didnot do it justice this time around.

  • how can you not love willie he's fantastic

  • ruining the song, bad

  • @Tunestolove - they imbued the song with their own styles, which is the mark of great musicians. Why would you want to see the song performed in exactly the same way by everyone? I think it is a trip that we can come to YouTube and watch dozens of musicians perform this song, and this is one of the best renditions IMO because they open up and sing it their way, rather than copying anyone else.

  • Awesome. Willie, my Texas homeboy. Great song.

  • well you know im young butt i love arlo and wille oh and my name is Arlo Guthrie Stafford to!!

  • Nice!

  • Two great gifts the U.S. has given the world. Willie and Arlo!

  • Arlo and Willy did more for the cressant city, then the Republicans !

  • Wow! Two of the great gifts the U.S. has given to the world are bluegrass & gospel.

  • Willie is playing Trigger, his 1969 model Martin n20 classical. Looks like arlo is playing a Gibson.

  • WOW my first time hearing this one , wicked video, thanks for this :)

  • Outstanding! Thank you for posting.

  • Can anyone ID the guitars that Willie and Arlo are plating? They both got some bad-ass boxes but i don't know what they are.

  • fuckin eh, tipitina's

  • u know, i've always thought that that phrase was to supposed to be said "fuckin' a" but i guess that's a good canadien twist to it.

  • My toes are tappin...

    *****

  • Willie & Arlo are top notch in my book.

All the stars to you all for posting this...

  • Ditto,

  • Pick'in and a Grin'in. Will the Circle be Unbroken Bye & Bye Lord. Bye & Bye...

  • 2 giants!!!!

  • i still find the soul comes across even if some verses are missing there, this was after katrina, i was down there before, it's very informal staging, this rings true and i find it inspiring. all it's doing is telling it like it IS

  • They took a train down to New Orleans to raise money for musicians hurt by Katrina. This was right after Arlo and his band had finished a tour. They played a lot of shows, this was the last. It was a fun rendition by an overworked band. For charity. And you guys are pissed off that it doesn't sound like, of all things, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band? And an album cut to boot?

There's a difference between gospel music and church music. Perhaps some day you guys will understand.

  • willie and guthrie.. we all know what they did after the show haha.

  • I saw Willie in concert on Friday and I'll be seeing Arlo live in a couple of months. How great that would be to see them together.

    Thanks.

  • This one is no doubt great, but it can't hold a candle to the Carter Family's version, or most other vewrsions done be respecters of tradition. Neither of these guys really respect tradition so their great talent just falls short of inspiration in this case.

  • No. He is more rooted in tradition than 99.9 percent than anyone out there today. Willie, too. You may not like their particular rendition, but to criticize by saying they have no respect for tradition? I think that is turrible. Just turrible.

  • Sir, I said neither really respects tradition, I didn't say they have no respect. The difference in the pieces is huge, showing the Carter Family's much greater quality, because they respect Tradition. Willie's "Blue Eyes Cryin' in The Rain" is fantastic, absolutely fantastic!, but we're no talkin' that song. Arlo I've never thought was much good and I still don't. His Alice song is a vicious piece, flaunting his hatred of Tradition, his enjoying communist mass-murder of Vietnamese people.

  • So by saying that neither really respects tradition, your implication is that they play other peoples' songs that they do not respect? Highly unlikely.

Arlo is a brilliant song writer and very much respects tradition.Your personal opinions on quality have no bearing on their respect for tradition.

Murder is murder and there were enough innocent Vietnamese killed by the US to occupy a small state, not to mention the nearly 60000 US soldiers killed for what? A slippery slope fallacy?

  • Reply "lost": Our definitions of traditions differ. I don't accuse Willie/Arlo of disrespecting songs they sing or say their talent's bad. You try to shut me up.

    They disrespect others.

I say Arlo is complicit in the communist mass-murder of untold millions of SE Asians AFTER he/friends helped snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. He sang of betrayal as Hue's 35 thousands were murdered by the NVA during Tet Offensive. A million Vietnamese lay in jungle-covered graves w/Arlo's help.

  • Arlo's help? Are you drunk? Shut up.

  • Good rendition... Please click on my name to see "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" - Tribute to Maybelle Carter by a 17 year old performer by the name of Michelle Lea

  • I like making music with my friends - it looks like I'm on the road again...

  • beautiful 100 min in ives me chills

  • Willie U need that 12 string Man.....

  • Can you imagine what that guitar of Willie's will sell for some day at Sotheby's or Christie's? Prolly more than the GNP of many countries.

  • Might pay for his back taxes.....LOL - I am not a person that goes crazy over things like this or worships anyone....but to have a Guitar from Willie - Johnny Cash - Arlo - Dylan....man to win the lottery and spend it all on just that one thing I would in a minute....I am not wealthy, but I am happy, and that would add to my happiness more than any amount of money on this earth...just to brush my hand against the strings and know that someones heart is wound into them.....

  • That guitar is named "Trigger" and it will never be for sale. Willies family would never disrespect him by "selling it"

  • This is probably one of the most important folk songs, EVER. This was the standard of the Carter Family, June Carter Cash's parents.

Check it out on You Tube. Arlo's daddy was influenced by those folks. Damn, I feel older than dirt.

  • >"You can have my enhaidence, my empire of dirt." Johnny Cash

  • Lets all just keep playing this you tube juke box until we train what ever powers that be, to sing in all that they do. That would fulfill a dream of Yoko's too.

  • WILLIE~ RAMBLIN JACK~ARLO...NATIONAL TREASURES~! God threw away the mold. If they come to yur town, plunk down your money and see them. The memories left will deem any price a bargain!

  • Willie has worn out more guitar strings than there are stars in the sky. Do a little research, see how many songs he's written, and how long he's been singing (and playing) for his supper. That man could sing the words off an ex-lax box and make it sound like poetry, and there's no earthly reason it should be that way, since his voice is far from traditionally great.

It's the quality of his picking and his presence that adds to the combination to make it true music.

  • OMG is right!!! Willie has been a picker for the last 45 years!! Where have you been? I guess it doesn't really matter where you have been -- just glad you are here with the rest of us Willie fans that have been here all along!! Welcome to the club!!

  • OMG!!

  • do nt want to sound like an ass but anyone who didnt know that willie could play like this is stuck in the country music of today. which in my book is NOT country music.

  • i agree.

  • What a great combo, on a great song.

but whoever didn't know that Willie can play and pick the dickens out of a guitar???

  • Lotta freaks!

  • wow, i didn't know Willie Nelson could play guitar like that. I thought he was just a singer. That little ol' martin sure sounds fine. he and that guitar are one. you can see it, the way he plays. nice version of this song by two genuine artists.

  • Love this one and all of them of course, You are the Best Arlo,We Love You, Doug & Vikki

  • check out my Alice's Restaurant video

  • Arlo, not BAD! You sound even better with Willie, da MAN!

  • willie is the man! PERIOD! arlo is right up there though!!!

  • arlo is cooler than willie red neck

  • Wonderful!!

  • gorgeous...im 28, but he has been my hero forever... arlo guthrie rocks

  • Me and one of my ex-wives worked as "Extras" in the movie "Songwriter" in Austin. When Willie walked out on stage, right then was when I realized just how much so many people really love Willie Nelson..! As for Arlo...well..uh...uh...he's a pretty kewl dude too, I suppose.

    Great video you too.

  • Wow, wish I could have made that gig!

  • now that's family man !! looks like it was a good time. it would've been something to see.

  • It gave me the chills. I love them, and the song!!

  • What do you expect? Almost 40 have passed. At least he's still got a head full of hair. I think both Willie and Arlo look great for their age!

  • Great artists doing a great number

  • far out, the new york state throughway is closed, man! great stuff.

  • Great vid. I love these guys!*****

  • thank you for sharing this paring of musical greatness!

  • cool video, great performers

    DJ Cormier

  • Arlo, would you and yours please come play some more in Texas?

  • Enjoyable Performance,Excellent!!!

  • Nice! Tipitina's is the coolest venue in the world.

  • who's the guy on willie's left?

  • If I have my earth left correct... I believe that is Arlo.

  • I you meant left as looking at the video (not Willie's true left), that's Arlo's son-in-law Johnny Irion (Sarah's husband)

  • Notice my greatest friend Kali Baba on the drums.. most underrated drummer east of the river that runs north to south. www-kalibaba-com BB ah BB

  • Nice. I love Willy (if not always for his music, then for the very kind of man he is), and Arlo just the same.
