This is just practice for the big day's, gotta get some runs in on the non life threatening stuff before committing to the death slab huge days... You think you could paddle this? Very easy to say from behind a computer screen. Even this small 10 ft day could leave urchins in your noggin. And the great whites are for sure circling you at this spot. Nice vid, now go get some bombs...
@lopaka73, Thanks for realizing that this was a practice run and I would like to add that this is the first ever tow session at the place. The point of the video is to show when the slab was first towed, what the session was like, and who was involved.
I could show you 20 better tow spots in NorCal within 2 hours of SF than that.... WAY BETTER! No offense y'all I'm sure it gets better than that but puh-lease ther are so many better spots for hollow shots than that practically next door to SF.... and no, there;s nobody out, I promise. If I had a dollar for every sess' alone I'dbe half rich.
And to all the people saying paddle you are the same people that claim to paddle into cyclops right?!?!? Why are people such haters obviously not really surfers that are doing all the hating... @poster did you hit this in winter? it looks like backdoor is firing nice as well nice vid...
This spot is insane well known spot in Oregon so not really a secret spot recently has become very popular for people with skids awesome video props to anybody searching for new breaks with toe/skids and to all the haters I would like to see you toe into any of these breaks mavericks, ours, etc.. Etc... There our monster reffs out here enjoy them...
You guys claiming paddle-in are such dumb-dumbs. Some of the best surfers in the world come and tow (not paddle-in) this spot aside from these progressing locals. Your ignorant/un-educated coments about "paddle-in" shows the rest of us just how little you know about the spot, the sport, and the surfing lifestyle in general. Thanks the traffic though!
@Kendogwilson Well I haven't read what you're complaining about so I apologize for that but after seeing the video it does look pretty weak for towing.. or paddling for that matter. It looks about 10' in the face and about 2 seconds long on a good day, kinda weak for towing wouldn't you say? More like a long board shoulder hopping wave it it goes from there... but with the unbearable short edit of this vid we shall never no. I'm 41 and yes that isn't intimdating to paddle into, not in NorCal.
@Kendogwilson Take me there on a day like that and I'd paddle it. Hell add 5 feet and I'd still go. You can't actually claim that day as a only a tow day. Not even close. I'll give it to you that there are people paddling in your line up. Frankly the wave seems a little short to be much fun though. I geuss if it gets bigger it's better?
grew up watching this wave wave. so sick seen it blow it's guts out so hard that it rivals any spit i have seen at pipe and i have been living in HI for 7 years now. Don't think I will ever have the skills to ride this one even the pro's who tried struggled. This day is small bad swell direction and I think a little stiffer straight off shore helps to. Drew come paddle this wave with a 5:3 on let's see how big ur balls are when you see the wave up close what a joke. kudos for trying guys
it was just plain stupid watching ever rich idiot with a wave running out at Mav. hope that doesnt happen to this spot. may the northwest style prevail
i grew up in walla walla wa. and lived in santa cruz for 8 years. worked construction and really wanted to fight a white cal boy. there all talk and no fight. well the santa cruz guys that surf Mav. are pretty cool lot but with alot of swagger. hope u all keep the lid on that spot and let your surfing do the talking. i see there is a article in the lastest Surfer and wonder whats going to happen to this spot now. before they banned wave runners in the Monterrey Bay .
