His tempo marking of 'Poco Allegro' is almost universally ignored now, because Western choirs are too concerned with trying to mimic what they think is an authentic Russian/Ukrainian interpretation. But what works for Eastern Europe doesn't necessarily work for a small choir of American undergraduates (with 28 singers). I honestly prefer to obey the composer's instructions rather than follow the herd...
