I doubt that one shot would do that so early in the fight. mcclellans injuries are consistant with damage to the back of the brain..he was hit with at least 100 hard rabbit punches. the ref was horrible, but his corner should have protected their fighter better

watch the fight on dvd if you have it mate,mcclellans gum shield starts to come out his mouth in round 2 and the blinking first starts at the end of round 3 and then you clearly see the blinking from the 5th,the problems started very early in the fight before the many rabbit punches,the ref was crap and his corner and don king need shootin

"100 hard rabbit punches"? That's bullshit. Benn landed a few foul shots, but 95% of his work was legal punches to McClellan's chin and temple...and those shots were MUCH harder than any cuffs to the back of the head. McClellan was stunned several times in the fight, but NOT ONCE was he stunned from a rabbit punch.

If Benn hadn't throw a single rabbit punch, McClellan would still have taken a beating...he took far too many hard punches, PERIOD.

If ya knew that in the build up before this fight there was really bad feeling between these two and Mcclellan even said he was going to kill Benn's dad after he knocked out Benn.

Also Mcclellan was brought over to knock Benn out cos they thought Benn had seen better days.

That's partly because the audio is a bit out of sync on this video. On McClellan, I don't really blame anyone for what happened. He still fought well and no one could know what was wrong with him, I'm sure other fighters have complained of a sore head or fought with a mouthpiece out and they haven't had a blood clot on the brain.

I agree with a lot of the comments here. I remember watching this fight on TV and worrying about Benn' s chances. The guy was knocked down badly a couple of times and still came back to win. Talk about heart and guts. Don't forget that McClellan's subsequent problems sparked a medical revolution in post KO care in boxing. Good luck to McClennan in the future..... If I ever met Nigel Benn I'd like to shake the hand of one of the gutsiest fighter I've ever seen.
