Why in the world would I want to let agencies like CIA, FBI, NSA, Google, MOSAD, KGB etc to know when I'm at home, washing or net-surfing ?
And by the way, any "metrological" chip like MCP3909 who's mesuring just a a tiny fraction of the measured value (like 2 microVolts !), using shunt resistors is error prone .
Electronic energy meters will never beat the classical induction meters if concerned about CORRECT INVOICING of what consumed...

In a "shunt resistor" scheme, IT MATTERS even the torque applied to screw !
Less torque = you pay more!
