@propanealex In real life Blondi was a German Shepherd given Hitler by Bormann in 1941. Hitler was very fond of her. Apparently the reason he did it was cos he was afraid the cyanide pills that he and Eva were to take were duds. In the movie he turns away and covers his face as Blondi dies, but apparently in real life he was not there when it happened and only came into the room after she died, but got very upset and left.

@ceredigio In a book about the bunker (not the Junge book) I remember reading about how Hitler was playing with the new batch of puppies in a bunker. These puppies were also given cyanide. I'm glad that scene wasn't in Downfall because that would be too much BUT I wish there was a nice extended scene in Downfall of Hitler playing with the puppies. That would be a comedy goldmine for parody makers!! lol

He thought about releasing her into the streets, but believed she would be killed there too. Hitler loved his dogs. You should do some research on it. He was devestated after she was killed.
