One thing is for sure, he never got a boo from anyone here in ATX. He was an easy show to get into until KLBJ played his version of Tin Pan Alley on Local Licks Live. Then everyone wanted to see him, including me.
Supposedly, he was being booed because the crowd wanted to see acoustic blues. But shear talent is shear talent. Regardless of whether or not he was plugged in and loud, the guy was a genius on guitar. So, to boo this performance is ridiculous and stupid. A bunch on A-holes in the audience, if you ask me. Of course, they loved him 3 years later, when it was "fashionable" to like him because he was famous. Here, in 1982, he was a relative unknown.
Me cuesta entender la situación, se presupone que a la gente que había allí les gustaba la música, y si te gusta la música es improsible no apreciar esto. Es asombroso.
@Kyle7375 He didn't snort on stage. According to most accounts, he'd bring a coffee cup on stage with whiskey in it that had coke dissolved in it. I saw him several times in the early days but don't recall seeing a coffee cup. Then again, I was watching his guitar playing and not watching what he was drinking.
this is the famous scene where The Thin White Duke who was in the audience discovered him and asked him to play on his Lets Dance album - the reason for the booing as the festival is/was traditionally acoustic.
I would have done anything to see this live, and then I see slack jawed yokel fat bobby joe and his other brother larry booing from the audience. Life aint fair. This DVD is awesome. Disc 2 is just as good, same venue several years later. RIP SRV.
I can barely gather the courage to play in front of my wife, yet Stevie got up in front of thousands and played his balls off while the house booed and hissed the whole time. That really tells you something about one's talent and courage to be able to do that. I hope he walked off the stage that night with a smile on his face.
This, in my relatively well-versed SRV opinion, was my favorite version of "Texas Flood". Sooo much guts. He just plays his heart out, leaves it all out there. And to hear those Montreux folks boo him is just pure ignorance. This guy's talent is beyond description....
Montreux '82 was some of the greatest live blues footage ever filmed. Stevie played his ass off at this show and those assholes didn't even appreciate it. What amazing talent!!! I was lucky enough to see him live once and I still get sad watching this vid. R.I.P. Stevie- one of a kind.
@rbmeek7 (some) people were booing because it was very, very loud, and the blues too heavy, the crowd was expecting more "black" blues, usually people like b.b. king would play in montreux for the blues night. The concert was broadcasted live on swiss radio, nobody understood the boos out there listening on the radio, the performance was outstanding. Some people were just no yet ready for this. In 1985 SRV had a big comeback in montreux, everybody would cheer now...
He was amazing!!!!!!!

As Mr. T would say, " I pity the fools" . This crowd was totally out to lunch for booing SRV even though he was not really a star in 1982.
