Good Natured Family Farms near Kansas City is making more and more products: beef, chicken, milk, cheeses, honey... the more people buy from farms like this, the more they'll be able to do. In the summer, we have two great farmer's markets, one downtown and one up north in Parkville where I shop almost every week for all kinds of locally grown and produced stuff. It's great to see such support out there for a great idea- and especially nice to see young people embracing the spirit of local!
I try to buy as much as I can from local food producers (not many in San Antonio) and read all labels looking for natural products. I wish there was a way to grow my own! It's very disheartening to know that you can't trust the food in the suoermarket...don't eat much meat anymore!
Without trying or thinking about it, I bought oysters, shrimp, bell peppers, eggplants, mirlitons, eggs, buttermilk, cream, milk, bread, andouille sausage, lemons, limes, and satsumas all produced or harvested from less than 50 miles from my home. This was from 2 local family owned groceries Rouse's and Dorignac's. Oh, and Abita Mardi Gras IPA beer.
VEGANISM is the way to really save the world!! It's upsetting to see that a group so involved with saving the world is blinded to the benefits of a vegan diet for ALL involved, including the EARTH. Seems like a wonderful group with wonderful causes, wish they would please be true to the cause!!
