I've worked for Starbucks since Dec. 2005, took a 5 month break and had to return for the health insurance due to a health scare. It's a good job if you have nothing else in your life. But they pride themselves on having a great "work-life" balance and that is bull. I'm a full time student, with 19 credit hours, after changes in availability, they never put it in effect, they still give me 35+ hours a week, schedule me during class and then it's my responsibility to cover my shifts.
This age of entitlement we live in is sickening. When you have a job that requires no trained skills and no education, you simply can't expect to have life delivered to you on a silver platter by your employer.
If it sucks that bad, why do the same people that work at my local store still work there after 6+ years?!!! And that's just as long as I've known them. Who knows how many were there years before I started going in. Also, this chick sounds like a complete slacker who uses her status as a "mother" as an excuse. It's not your employers job to help you care for your child. Which you shouldn't have had and can't afford. BIRTH CONTROL ANYONE? Poor child.
I HATE STARBUCKS. I WORKED FOR THE STORE IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI. I GOT PAYED A POOR WAGE OF 7.75 AND THEY TRIED TO CONVINCE ME I WAS A "PARTNER" ITS BULLSHIT. THEY WERE ALWAYS TRYING TO KEEP ME MOVING AND CLEANING EVEN WITH NO CUSTOMERS AND IT WAS A VERY DISSAPOINTING WORK ENVIRONMENT. THEY TRIED TO TELL ME HOW THEY PAY THE COFFEE FARMERS MORE FOR THE COFFEE SO THEY CAN GIVE BACK THEMSELVES..WELL HOW ABOUT FUCKING PAYING YOUR EMPLOYEES A DECENT WAGE AS WELL SO THEY CAN LIVE. FUCKING WORTHLESS
@imnotemo888 It's not just Starbucks. I work at a movie Theater that's already like that and they're no where near as popular. I don't even get 7.75. What they think is professional is just craziness. It makes their customers feel uncomfortable and apprehensive. We don't want them to spill or make a mess or anything because we'll have to zoom from the roof or parking lot or wherever we are to take care of it within milliseconds or there are serious reprimands.
Starbucks cant make a profit if they treat the employees well the make there money by selling over price coffee and paying u shit wages that they way big business is they have to keep there stock holders happy!
Don't take it personally--Starbucks treats MANY "partners" (so-called "employees") like garbage---my friend worked at Store #5314 at Fairview Avenue in Goleta, California (Santa Barbara), and even with OPEN AVAILABILITY, got LESS THAN 20 HOURS, as EVERYONE ELSE DID! And they were STILL HIRING! Store manager was encouraged to "run tight shifts" and "send people home early" if possible! Same with "no call in sick policy"--YOUR Fault if no show--& that person FURTHER gets hours cut!
Mad at how much money you make? Show some fucking ambition and get a different job. I'm so fucking tired of people whining about how much money they make. Obama loves you people though.
Continued: If you can't work more than 2 days per week, there is enough reason to lay you off, in my opinion. There are VERY few jobs that would higher if you intended to only work two days per week. If you worked a 9-5 job, you would be able to afford day care, but you would not find a 9-5 job only working 2 days per week. You know what your salary will be when you take the job at starbucks, so the fact that you couldn't afford daycare shouldn't have come as a surprise.
starbucks is where you work as a teenager or as a side job not as your main source of income same goes for walmart or mcdonalds or as a cashier or stocker at any grocery store
its a recession dude, jobs are limited. My own mom was thinking of taking on a second job, a cahier job just to make up the rest of the bills. Stop being a bigot by implying that people shouldn't do whatever they have to do to pay the bills
yeah side job means second job and working at starbucks is not a career unless you are a manager owner or working in the corporate offices part of starbucks there is nothing wrong with taking on a second job at starbucks to suplement your income in hard times or to start off working in starbucks as a teenager but to treat being a server at starbucks as your only job as a career move isnt the brightest idea in the world the job is way to easy to do to warrant being paid 13 bucks a hour
(continued) my mom has a business degree and manages a hotel btw, so she is very educated. my point is jobs are limited and people will do anything for a job, will take any job that comes their way
VERY true, RedNymph. Sometimes, you do what you can to survive, and sometimes, it's not the ideal job, but...a person HAS TO EAT, and to comment negatively only says "I am a IGNORANT moron who doesn't actually have ANY idea how the world ACTUALLY works".
I know, I am tired of people thinking crud jobs are beneathe them. I mean, what makes them think they have a stable golden throne to sit upon? The difference between the homeless and someone with a good job is only a few paychecks. Anyone can run into problems, and they will do anything to get back on their feet, like take on a minimum wage job. Ya gotta eat, and people have to actually get their hands dirty to eat, but that's not a shameful thing
What makes the greedy capitalist think they have a right to profit off non-labour income, simply by granting people the permission to use their fixed-capital assets? That is theft.
