I never got on with the Nemo rising card effect & preferred the Anverdi version which was so much simpler to accomplish. Ms Bassey must have been on this as there is no way that PD could have done it without her seeing how - sorry!!

I've been performing this effect in cabaret since 1979, having learnt the finer points of handling directly from Ken, and I have NEVER been 'called on it'.

Class acts.. the BOTH of them..! Ms. Bassy allowed Paul Daniels to do what he does best, and that's "be himself". Her trust in him, after reminding him who's show it was (just for laughs) made this work like a charm. I never saw this before, so it was a real treat. Thanks for posting this!

An interesting point about this clip. Shirley Bassey, being the ultimate professional, always wanted to run through what her guests were doing during their spot. Paul convinced Shirley that this would not work for magic; the surprise element would be lost and it would look staged. After much discussion, she agreed and the clip you see above had no 'dry run'. How nice to see her actually enjoying the spot and unlike many 'stars' now, trying to take over simply because it's 'their show'.

This magic effect is called The Nemo Rising Cards; a brilliant effect honed to perfection by the greatest magician England ever produced.....Ken Brooke. Within magic circles, it's widely known that if Ken Brooke had wanted the fame of TV, there would not have been a Paul Daniels.
Ken was a great friend of Paul's and advised him correctly around many aspects of Paul's cabaret act.
