This was one beautiful film, and there was no better choice than Wes Studi for magua. Iloved seeing Native American activist Russel Means as the father too.
Uma das mais belas misturas instrumentais que minha audição associada com as imagens que meus olhos acompanhava enquanto o filme rodava, experimentou. Hoje tenho o filme e tenho a música.
The fate of the Indians would have been better if the British win the Revolutionary War, moreover, one of the grievances of the colonists was that the crown had to forbid the American colonists to settle in the newly conquered territories of the Indians on the French. This policy was the result of the fears felt by a wreath at the economic and demographic power of the colonies! Benjamin Franklin did not he say that if things continued like it there more English in America than in England!
I agree Wes Studi should have received a lot more recognition for his role as Magua. I wonder if he didn't pattern his character after Pontiac, another great Huron warrior. I've seen him in many roles and he never dissappoints.
-scots were hired by many countries to fight their wars-scots were known to be ferocious-so fought in canada against the iroquois there-sometime w only promise of plenty good whisky-i saw a mural of scots massacre of native indians in the scots blackguard armory montreal.quebec in memory of their victory over the natives there-thats why this music is in the movie-but be better to have 1/2 native flutes or chant-no iroquois mistreated women prisoner-but magua got twisted by whites
i love this song!!! after i saw the movie, i wrote my own song called Native American Ballad inspired by the music here. My song is more piano-based than string-based like this one, but I tried to capture the same powerful, emotional build-up!! Both of these instrumentals are great for self-reflection.
@castigadormapuche1 yes for sure! Wes Studi is also a Vietnam war veteran so he was able to capture the intensity of a war situation much better than most actors would have been able to and he did phenominal!
this is still a great film of its kind. i still have the Vhs which i kept for so long. i wanted it so bad. what a movie. what a scene. i dont know if the movie made it to box office back in the day. now i finally have the dvd. Cheers!!!

Great choice of images! I haven't seen that movie in ages, but it did fantastic work on the details: the costumes were really good, the music was awesome, the actors were great, and even secondary characters got a decent background and character development - a precious rarity in a move that's mostly historical romance.
I really like how you mix background/landscapes with stills of the actors. It fits very well with the movie because the beautiful props and landscapes were part of the charm.
The British Empire, to make the world England, one of the most polluted "empires" in the world. Yes, do, let's make the world England. That's why my Ancestors favored the French. They assimilated themselves to our lives/culture, they did not come to colonize us. We never wanted to be white people. We wanted to be free, just as your Puritans did. Since then, we've suffered in your quest for God, glory and gold. Gwich/"Thanks".
@WatchMyAwesomeVideos The main title as well s the rest ws a calming point for a friend of mine who unfortunatly took his own life a yr ago this coming December. He ws 36.
@kopynd, the British Empire was indeed vast and glorious...and it spread a civilizing influence throughout the entire world, improving the lives of countless millions -- no matter what the historical revisionists want to claim today.
This is even more hillarious thanks to just reading a lot on the effects of, among other things, opium production and trade in India under the "civilizing" influence of the British Empire.
"Revisionists" ? I didn't know that word is now defined as "doesn't share my point of view".
India before the British Empire: Widespread practices of murder, rape, slavery, subjugation of women, illiteracy rate approaching 100%, near-constant warfare between minor sultanates, a standard of living utterly devoid of manufactured goods, not even the most basic of medical treatment, etc.
India after the British Empire. The highest standard of living in the region, slavery eradicated, tribal warfare and most barbaric practices suppressed, a fair and modern legal system, etc.
@kopynd True, there was a time when the British empire was the largest and most powerful empire in the world, but after World War 2 the British lost a lot of power and influence and the Americas took their place as the most powerful country and empre (if you want to call America an empire) in the world.
Interesting thing: the US isn't a bad example of a modern empire, because characteristics of an empire are that ithas cultural and financial influence, that these come from the center / home land, and that the outlying regions aren't officially ruled by the central power but are strongly influenced politically, by treaties or because they are dependant.
Okay, I'll shut up now with the history lecture. Sorry, couldn't help myself ;)
Wes Studi should have been given an Academy Award. What a fantastic movie! Too bad Wes Studi hasn't been in more movies. Not to take a thing away from Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe. In my opinion, Daniel Day-Lewis is the most underrated actor of our time.
@romaneeto Wes Studi was brilliant in this but Daniel Day-Lewis isn't underrated. He has acted in relatively few films by choice and has won 2 Oscars for best actor & being nominated for more. He is thought by many to be one of the best actors or his generation. He just chooses not to take many acting roles.
@cuzgandalfgothigh99 I know a few, 'Dances with wolves' but the main character is white and played by kevin costner -_- 'the new world' is a live action version of Pocahontas, Geronimo havent seen it but it looks pretty awesome, Apocalypto directed by mel gibson so dont watch it if you dont like lots of blood :P Try checking imd.com you can find plenty there, just avoid the movies with red painted white actors xD

@repelghosts It was filmed in North Carolina; major scenes in Chimney Rock State Park.. I stood under water falls, also climbed up to precipice where I could look over to area where Huron village was set. Absolutely breathtaking scenery...a must-see for any fan of the film.
Gorgeous scenery, music, men... there's not much to NOT like about The Last of the Mohicans. I wonder if this movie helped tourism in the area where it was filmed. Sure makes *me* want to take a trip there.

and yes,; his creativity, as an actor (what else?) helped enormously in amplifying his appeal. My friend and I both thought his acting in this film was truly superb. The last scene was as beautiful as it was wrenching. It powerfully brought to the fore the continent-wide disaster that awaited the native-american civilizations.
Also the sound track was so affecting, especially the song by the Irish group:Clannad;: "I WILL FIND YOU".

And the acting...suspended my disbelief for a few hours.........honestly ....got so sucked in by the acting, that my wee brain thought I was watching the real people.....gotta be the benchmark for performance.....to convince an audience like that........wonderful.. !!!!

Fully agree with all the comments 'bout the soundtrak, stirring to say the least.
And the acting...suspended my disbelief for a few hours.........honestly ....got so sucked in by the acting, that my wee brain thought I was watching the real people.....gotta be the benchmark for performance.....to convince an audience like that........wonderful.. !!!!
DD Lewis .............way under rated.

this established the lead chords for, at least, 4 other soundtracks.
the lord of the rings, braveheart, starship troopers, and pirates of the caribbean.
Trevor Jones FTW !
