great "legends" video. i started watching in 78/79. my wife laughs about me harking on about the golden era. loved this video and others on this channel of games i remember well (but that - admittedly - look a little different in the retelling). cheers.
wonderful stuff, remember going with my dad in the so bad they were funny Andy Rankin days and then Taylor, Ross, Luther and John Barnes came along and SW Herts wasn't such a joke any more !
remember the old electronic scoreboard with Ray Train's animation ?
ross jenkins is my grandad never seen this footage hes still got a gold album elton john gave him when he was chairman for bein best player so proud to be apart of this quality of football what a team
Wow, thats an honour to have him as a relative mate!! I just wish I was old enough to have seen the greats like Barnes, Blissett and of course Ross Jenkins Snr
@lockstockin Your grandad is my all time football hero to this day.
I remember like yesterday, being 8 or 9 years old and my dad taking me to the Vetch Field and Ross being carried off with a broken ankle and me crying my eyes out!
I'm not a Watford fan, but I've always admired their rise in English football - to finish 2nd in their first top flight season and get into Europe, selling ther star striker to AC Milan, FA Cup finalists the year after - exceptional!
my 8 year old son did a project on sporting heroes and chose luther! we spent/wasted hours looking through my old programmes for it. just been viewing the vids with tears in my eyes. steveo you are a youtube god!
It is indeed "THE" Jan Lohman (and his brother) They contacted me via my site here and ive since been invited down to visit them in Holland..which i shall be doing sometime in the spring.
Apparently he works in a bar in Roosendal and the customers like to hear his tales of how his goal knocked Man United out of the cup :-)
Luckily i was able to add footage of that game to my site..now they can see it for themselves!
Brilliant - great memories. Luther's two goals in the league cup at Old Trafford was the perfect answer to the monkey noises and rascist chants aimed at him. I seem to remember Ross scoring with a header in the 6-0 thrashing of Doncaster despite having stitches in a head wound. Keep posting the vids - they are great.

The glory days. Like so many, I was there! Weirdly a few years after Ross gave up footy he fitted my mum and dad's double glazed front door!!
