  • Wasn't even born when these 2 were still playing, so major thanks for putting this up mate, always good to see the legends that I missed :)

  • wonderful stuff, remember going with my dad in the so bad they were funny Andy Rankin days and then Taylor, Ross, Luther and John Barnes came along and SW Herts wasn't such a joke any more !

remember the old electronic scoreboard with Ray Train's animation ?

My dad sponsored John Ward's warmup kit !

  • ross jenkins is my grandad never seen this footage hes still got a gold album elton john gave him when he was chairman for bein best player so proud to be apart of this quality of football what a team

  • Wow, thats an honour to have him as a relative mate!! I just wish I was old enough to have seen the greats like Barnes, Blissett and of course Ross Jenkins Snr

  • @lockstockin

I was in primary school with his son, so I might have been in the same class as your dad?!

  • @lockstockin Your grandad is my all time football hero to this day.

I remember like yesterday, being 8 or 9 years old and my dad taking me to the Vetch Field and Ross being carried off with a broken ankle and me crying my eyes out!

That was a team full of true legends.

  • watford did very well to reach the fa cup final in '83 and were very unlucky from an everton fan

  • The team of today could do with watching this - confident, free-flowing football!!!!

  • what on earth were Arsenal doing at 1:37???? LOL!!!! PLAY TO THE WHISTLE BOYS!!!!

  • I'm not a Watford fan, but I've always admired their rise in English football - to finish 2nd in their first top flight season and get into Europe, selling ther star striker to AC Milan, FA Cup finalists the year after - exceptional!

  • @Aremsi77 Herein Milano he's still a nightmare....since almost 30 years ago!!!

  • The glory days. Like so many, I was there! Weirdly a few years after Ross gave up footy he fitted my mum and dad's double glazed front door!!

  • Wow...so was I from brentford to Gillingham to northwich victoria, to Hillingdon, to MUFC to WBA to southend 1974 to 1979, treasured memories....

    Watford have a guardian Angel...

  • my 8 year old son did a project on sporting heroes and chose luther! we spent/wasted hours looking through my old programmes for it. just been viewing the vids with tears in my eyes. steveo you are a youtube god!

  • Many thanks for that..now i'm the one with tears in my eyes!

I hope your son will one day enjoy the sort of magical times we did back then..

  • luther + ross = the greatest!!

  • Truly great, cheers Stevo

  • hello steve great video nice to see this bake .

greetings edwin lohman, and jan lohman

  • "The" Jan Lohman? Part of a great team, great memories and an experience that could never be replicated.

Stevo - this is perfect...in every way

  • Many thanks for the comment..

It is indeed "THE" Jan Lohman (and his brother) They contacted me via my site here and ive since been invited down to visit them in Holland..which i shall be doing sometime in the spring.

Apparently he works in a bar in Roosendal and the customers like to hear his tales of how his goal knocked Man United out of the cup :-)

Luckily i was able to add footage of that game to my site..now they can see it for themselves!

  • Thanks again for the memories Stevo

  • Great stuff! This page is a great destination to show how good Watford used to be. I'll be pointing a few doubters here!!!

  • Brilliant - great memories. Luther's two goals in the league cup at Old Trafford was the perfect answer to the monkey noises and rascist chants aimed at him. I seem to remember Ross scoring with a header in the 6-0 thrashing of Doncaster despite having stitches in a head wound. Keep posting the vids - they are great.

  • Brings tears to my eyes, the memories
