  • What's your opinion on Far Cry? The first one!

  • I'll review it eventually.

  • @DWTerminator Ok, thought that you had a review of it somewhere in here...

  • Nope. Not yet.

  • What's your opinion on Far Cry? The first one!

  • its is not a direct play on the net on this game yet ?

  • If you mean a "direct IP connect command," then no, as far as I know there isn't one. If you mean online play, period, then there is (it's pretty laggy though). If you mean LAN play, then yes, I believe there is.

  • watching this review just made me buy this game on my xbox purely on impulse. NO REGRETS.

  • Glad you liked it.

  • 3:40 is there anywhere else to stand in an open plane?

  • Pretty much the entire game is massive, wide-open, flat areas.

  • I have to disagree with you on what you think about the multiplayer. Its absolutley amazing because you can create any kind of maps you want! Another thing is also............ NO CAMPERS! FINALLY!!!!!!! cod, halo, and battlefield always have campers in the multiplayer and noobs also!!!

  • Far Cry 2's got plenty of campers. You sure we're playing the same game?

And sure you can make whatever maps you want... but almost every other FPS (including better ones) has that capability too (at least on PC). Sure it's unusual for console though.

  • I luv the multiplayer, its wat keeps me coming back to play the game even today!

Tho i get ur point on the ranking system

  • I haven't bothered with the multiplayer much. It's just... bleh.

  • @DWTerminator idk theres so many maps that people made, u nvr know wat map ull get, so the battles r always fresh

  • I mean the multiplayer gameplay itself is "bleh." Those with higher ranks have a *massive* advantage over those with lower ranks, the damages make no sense, it's laggy, performance can be a bit spotty, and the modes are basic. When I've got the likes of Call of Duty or Unreal Tournament, why bother with Far Cry 2's online when it's so sub-par?

  • @DWTerminator yeah i hav no idea y i like it.

i play alot of battlefield and call of duty 4, world at war, mw2, and black ops.

  • well, i just didn't like this game. sorry.

  • You're entitled to your opinion, of course.

  • I find that the voices seem really rushed. The enemy chatter isn't bad; but the companion voices just fly by. They talk to you in the safe houses and you just hear "Oy,Igotabettersolutiontokillingthatguy, gohereandblowupthisthingandit'llmakekillinghimeasier. Youhavetogoheretofindthebomb,thenputitthere.seeulater."

  • Yeah, they *do* talk ridiculously fast. Maybe they're just in a hurry? At least it's not as bad as something like Prince of Qin, where They talK li,ke wilLIAM Shat... ner.

  • I heard this game was bad before, i think that the first Far cry was better!

but it looks fucking great i mean the light grapichs.

But if this game is a strategy game, i would never buy it.

  • The first one is definitely better, but FC2 is by no means a bad game. It's a very good game with plenty of flaws.

  • I thought the story seemed really rushed, and confusing. It did get better around the second half of the game, but it still was a big missed opportunity.

  • It was obviously rushed, but it's not bad by any means, especially for an open-world action game. Still a good overall game though.

  • i bought this game because i loved the first far cry. it looked good but the gameplay was so meh.. i mean the suicide jeeps or checkpoints that get repopulated as soon as pass by the second time. it could have been great if they would have made the gameplay more complex. its one of these dumbed down consolish acardeshooters

  • Yeah, it was a bit "dumbed down" in some regards and a bit too much emphasis was placed on visuals. Of course, it's almost nothing like the original Far Cry, so that threw us for a loop. Still fun though.

  • @DWTerminator

well yes it was awesome for 2 days.. until ran out of weed lol

then i just finished it and never touched it again since then -_-

  • I would have found this review funner if you had explained the stuff that you can do outside the cities, like running around and stuff. I would have also liked it if you explained the roots of the story because if I were to buy this game (I watch reviews so I can give tips on how to improve) I would wanna know if it has an enjoyable story?

  • Story's incredibly simple: you're a hired gun sent to kill "The Jackal." To be honest, it's ok, but really nothing special.

You can't really do much outside the towns except explore and do non-essential missions... which consist mostly of blowing stuff up.

  • what sucks about this game is that the gun rust up i loved this until i was playing it someone made me jump and my syestem made a werid scrating sound and my disk was fucked up when i took it out

  • Yeah, gun degradation is ridiculously fast in Far Cry 2. Sucks about your disc too.

  • Great game and great review. And yeah.. SecuRom sucks, I bought the game in china and it didn't have a code. I managed to crack it so that I don't need to be online though when I play it! :D

  • I'm fairly certain a ton of the people who have this game on PC got the crack for no SecuROM. At least game companies are getting away from crap like that. Glad you liked the review.

  • Sure, the missions are repetitive, but what are you going to do in an FPS? Far Cry 1 wasn't anything besides "go here, shoot stuff, drive vehicle, shoot again, press a button, shoot more stuff," after all.

Respawning enemies, however, *are* irritating, as is the driving everywhere. They tried some new stuff and it worked pretty well for what they actually did, to be honest. It somewhat reeks of console gaming though.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion about the game.

  • I really hated the allways respawning enemies at the outposts. . I really wxpwected more of this game. .I got really bored and I didnt even finished it :/

  • I finished the game, but yeah, I can understand the respawning enemies thing. It does get a little annoying.

  • This game completely blows on Xbox 360. I regret buying it. Just bought a new pc and it's SO much better, the aiming on 360 makes it unplayable, at least for me. Because the enemies got so much hp, you need to aim good, and you just can't do that with analog sticks.

Not hating on consoles here, I buy most of my games for the 360, but this game just doesn't work.

  • Yeah, I played it on 360 and it was pretty sluggish. FPS's in general are better on PC thanks to the control scheme, though.

  • True, but at least CoD and Halo WORK on the consoles. The aiming is in those games is really. But Far Cry 2 just has "bad pc port" all over it. You NEED aim assist on a console to make it work, unless it's an all out arcade shooter like UT3.

    Anyway, great reviews, subscibed :)

  • I find aim assist to be really annoying most of the time. Unless it's REALLY slight, it just gets aggravating since I overcompensate. Too used to being able to flick the mouse and fire. I can't even imagine playing UT3 or any game that's THAT fast-paced on a console, though.

    Glad you like the reviews.

  • far cry 2 sucks

  • You're entitled to your own opinion.

  • this game is better than fallout 3 :)))))

  • Well, as far as fun factor goes, yeah I could see that. I can't really compare FC2 to F3 though since they don't really have many similarities, so as far as which is a better game, it's really up to the player's individual tastes.

  • i just prefer far cry 2 cause fallout is way harder and i just dont like "uber violence " games

but i do like cod waw and others aswell

and fallout is not so good the plot is not linear

and theres no vehicles so its really pain in the arse to go from place to place by walking...

  • Well, the main plot of F3 is linear, but the game is an open-world so it's got lots of other stuff to do as well. Lack of vehicles I can see being problematic (though it's a bit of a pain in FC2), but that's what fast travel's for. "uber violence" games are few and far between really. F3's violence level was intended for players *not* to take it seriously at all.

I felt like FC2 was a bit too easy though. Then I started replaying it on infamous and it's about the right difficulty setting. ^_^

  • in my opinion u left out 3 mistakes -->

    1. You have to drive A LOT A LOT A LOT A LOT (it gets pretty annoying)

    2. Enemys have ridiculous amounts of health (you can shoot one 15 times and they'll live)

    3. You constantly get attacked by enemy trucks

But other than that, graphics are stunning, storyline solid and gameplay overall pretty good

  • Yeah, driving everywhere gets annoying.

Enemies don't really have all that much health when you aim for the chest and head like I do. I use recoil to my advantage and tend to use sniper rifles as well. Enemy trucks aren't hard to deal with, but the amount of them sometimes bugs me.

  • I have to disagree with the acting. everone talks way too fast and monotone

  • It's not as bad as other games out there. They at least did an ok job with the accents in FC2...

I still love the original Resident Evil's voice acting. "Stop. Don't, open... thatdoor."

  • haha yeah. re4 had some pretty good acting though.

  • The newer RE games have been pretty good about the acting, but they still take themselves too seriously.

Bad voice acting really doesn't bother me unless there are no subtitles and you can't hear the guys talking. I was perfectly fine reading the scrolling text of games back in the day, and I'm still fine with it. Good voice acting just helps round out the experience more (CoD4, for instance, had awesome voice acting that helped make the game that much better).

  • Almost like me but I get pissed when there are no subtitles it makes me pissed you know for the late night gaming don't want to wake anyone but you don't know what they are talking about and unfortunatly I can't read lips.

  • That's why headphones are key for gaming if you don't want to wake people up. :/

  • Yeah but I play on the 360 or if I'm really lazy the computer. Also is this a good game to get?Its either this or skate 2 just give me your rating from 1-10 and the cons and pros if you can.

  • I can't really say anything about Skate 2 (don't like skateboarding at all and haven't played the game as a result), but on a 1-10 scale Far Cry 2 gets an 8. It does get repetitive after a while, but that's a result of the "free world" thing it has.

  • I like the multiplayer, there are just endless problems with it. Hosts can boot anybody in ranked games, so in deathmatch they always boot the leading player and ect ect. and it takes like 15 minutes to get into a game

  • Connectivity is a huge problem in PC multiplayer, I've noticed. I've not had the problem with being kicked, but that's usually because the game randomly disconnects me. As such, I've just given up on Far Cry 2's multiplayer.

  • Great review!

  • Thanks.

  • nice vid but i like the AI in the game

  • I thought it was pretty pathetic, but then again I compare AI to F.E.A.R. and Far Cry 1 these days.

  • depends. what difficulty is this?

  • This video is from my first playthrough (normal difficulty). I played it on infamous and found that the AI was just as stupid, but have about 10x more accuracy and their weapons do more damage.

  • hi i've been playing farcry2 as marty i got to 84% game play then it stalled on loading i had to switch my 360 off then on again try to play from save but again it stalled not to worry i thought i'd start the game from scratch this time i tryed frank i got to 58% and it did it again stalled on loading i thought it was my 360 but no it play all my other games no bother it's just farcry2 my mate next doors disc did the same with him so can anybody help ?

  • Sorry... I don't have the Xbox version so I can't help you too much... Try checking the disc for scratches or smudges, they tend to cause the game to freeze or crash.

  • You know what? I just had a feeling this would have secuROM! I just did, somehow... Before you even mentioned it, I was googling "far cry 2 +drm". I hate DRM!

So I won't be buying this game. I don't buy any EA games either.

  • I didn't buy the game. I got it as a gift (same with the game I'll be reviewing next.

I don't mind DRM if it's done in a way that really doesn't hurt the user (eg. Steam, putting the disc in the drive to play, CD-keys, 1-time online activations), but SecuROM does nothing more than piss the users off. EA already treats its customers like crap, so why even buy their games to begin with? Only EA games I've been truly interested in recently are Bioware games anyway.

  • I totally agree with you, though Steam sucks for me -- The Orange Box had to download itself even when I got it in a store!

RIP BioWare -- the master of cRPGs, bought out by the master of greed and cuistomer dissatisfaction.

    Boycott EA!

  • Same thing happened to me with Half-Life 2. I really don't mind though since it means that the game is always up-to-date. Steam really doesn't hurt the user much though. Sure, it's DRM, but at least Valve isn't limiting installs apart from signing in with your account in order to install them.

As for EA, I tend not to buy their new games anyway. All you see these days are more Need For Speeds, craploads of sports games, disappointing games (eg. Mirror's Edge), or DRM madness.

  • Stem is useless without a credit card... Which I don't have. I only dislike very intrusive or limiting DRM. Steam can be turned off, even if it is a pain.

  • Only really bad thing I've found about Steam is the downloading. It takes forever and you have to download every time you reinstall. Other than that it's fine.

What you're hating is DRM like SecuROM and Starforce. I refuse to buy any game with DRM like that, but if I get one as a gift I'm gonna play it (as long as it's not Starforce-"protected"). Even consoles have DRM now (360 especially), so it's simply ridiculous across the board.

  • Yeah, that's what I meant. I don't mind SafeDisc and have had no experience with Tages. But I'm not gonna turn to piracy.

    Intrusive DRM is crud!

  • I have the ps3 version, I love the map editor, I think you forgot to mention that

  • Map editor is really only a big deal on the console versions. This is the PC version, so mod tools are pretty much expected. Besides, I've noticed that not many people play online in the PC version, so maps don't really matter too much.

  • Nice, I got the PS3 version, the graphics are sweet. I may consider reviewing it myself, eventually. Lucky guy, my comp sucks. Vista...

  • Yeah... Vista kills rigs unless you've got at least 3 gigs of ram (4 or higher is ideal).

  • Vista kills everything lol

  • Yeah it does. Hell, even MS Word crashes quite a bit on Vista, and that's sad. Instability + system hog + games = wtf is going on?!

Not to mention it's annoying to navigate compared to XP...

  • I've been playing the PS3 version and loving every minute of it, I've not played a game for 19+ hours in a long time :D just over half way through the single player, not tried multiplayer yet.

  • Make sure to tell me how PS3's multiplayer is... It feels like it's oriented to consoles in the PC version. Glad you like the game.

  • yah the multiplayer on the consoles is very good (im playing on 360) great map editor too

    great review

  • Thanks.

The game was designed generally for consoles, so it's no surprise that the multiplayer is better on them.

  • nice review

  • Thanks.

  • good job :)

  • Thanks.
