I have created a music album which charts the history of the Space Race.
Space Race by Rhesus Monkey.
The album charts the start of the Space Race with Sputnik 1957, Yuri Gagarin's first human space flight, John Glenn's Triple Orbit, Ed White's Gemini IV Space Walk, then onto Apollo.
You can view videos of three tracks from the album within my YouTube channel.
1:15 The Flame Trench faces North to South Therefore the Launch Umbilical Tower would be facing North and the Saturn V Rocket should be facing South. As a result, The Launch Umbilical Tower would be the only object seen, with the Rocket hidden behind it. Plus the Mobil Launch Platform actually sits Approx 20 ft off the ground on six steel supports. The movie depicts it as sitting on the ground. The Launch scene would have been way more epic if they had done the CGI composites more accurately.
@CTTV101 Interestingly enough, the hard drive for the first lunar landing mission was 68K. PERIOD! Can you imagine sending men to the moon and bringing them back with a 68K hard drive?
@DeedsResearcher There was a 1993 DOS game called "Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space."
System Requirements: Floppy disk: IBM PC compatible, 286 12MHz, 640K RAM, MS-DOS 3.1, VGA/MCGA, CD-ROM: IBM PC compatible, 386SX, 4MB RAM, 2.6MB EMS, VGA
In other words, we could go to the moon - but we couldn't play a game based on it.
Ron Howard probably thought it would be more dramatic to have him on the beach watching, where he could feel the impact of the Saturn V lighting off. Of course, in reality probably no one is allowed on the beach that close to the launch pad; if the damn thing blew up he's close enough to get fried and/or shredded.
"Houston, 8 viewers have had a problem."

Time Index 2:05
Swingarm 9 aka (The White Room) Reracts at T-5:00.
Swingarm 1 retracts at T-0:28 seconds.
Swingarm 2 retracts at T-0:18 seconds.
Swingarms 3 through 8 retract at T-0:00.
Ron Howard should have portrayed the Launch Sequence more accurately.
Looks good for on screen effects but for authenticity... !! STUPID !!
