Im going to buy a Congo grey as soon as I finish building my cages magnificent creatures they are and yours is wonderful ever since I can remember I've loved the grey's how often did you train with her and good... no great job!
@fpssilentfox We've had her for 11 years and we just speak to her as we are doing things, ask her alot of questions and tell her the answers. There's no specific training schedule. She's just VERY smart and picked up all the stuff on her own. She's quite entertaining, that's for sure! Thanks for the comment!
great film, there's a parrot similar in our pet shop £720 cute but bet they can bite how noisy are they? I mean its great when they talk etc but if your watching tv or something can it be annoying?
Every time I watch a talking parrot, i feel it feeds on nostalgia and memories. This especially so. He remembers the good times with dad and keeps his mind in that state by reliving the song of it. Bird's love of song + favorite memories = parrot's song :D
@Sallyallie89 She also can associate actions with words very well. If I take out pots and pans, she will say, "Momma's cooking". If she sees rain, she says, "That's rain out there." If we open the freezer, she says, "Want some ice cream?" If we get out a garbage bag, she says, "Daddy's gonna take out the garbage." and many others. It's difficult to tape that sort of thing, though, since she doesn't really like the camera and we have to hide it from her. Thanks for watching! Ruby's Mom.
@thesclands Ah, well I didn't know that. That's really smart then for Ruby to be able to do that. You don't meet too many birds as smart as that. What a large vocabulary =)
@Ashelinsane The poster already responded to me, so you don't have to tell me. I already know. Read the comments to find my other comment in response to the poster.
@Sallyallie89 You couldn't be wronger- but you aren't even listening? look at how she associates words between them. That's why I love greys, they have these long monologues, where they move from topic to topic. mostly about showers or food, of course, lol.
@greengrendel If you read my later comments, you'll see I changed my thoughts from 2 months ago. I no longer feel the way I do with the comment you are responding to. I agree with you now.
@Sallyallie89 I see. Sometimes when my comment gets answered by the maker of the video, or gets too many thumbs up, I end up deleting it because dozens of people will keep replying the same thing! XD
@DeniseNY1 Ruby turned 10 in November - she was 16 weeks old when we got her. She is in LOVE with my husband, so most of what she says is in his voice tone (she does sound alot like a robot, too, tho hahaha) I just watched your video of Apollo. He is absolutely adorable. I can just tell his is going to be a star one day =]
wanted to let you know that my Blue fronted Amazon as well as my cockateil love Ruby . They watch her every morning she is a shining star in this house and I hope to oneday add an African Grey to my household the birds are my babies and a lot of time is spent with them Jack my Amazon loves you tube he expresses which videi's he likes and dislikes in a very funny way he will urn away when I out on something that doesnt interest him...he is a silly bird . Thanks for entertaining my boys
I have parrots, not a grey but my brother has one, and this one has the clearest voice of any i have ever heard! awesome video./ thanx for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My b&g macaw, Oliver, watch Ruby all the time.Today he kept kissing her on the screen. Then I would ask him "did you kiss Ruby?" and he would get all excited and shake his head yes.Love it!
this is awesome!!! This reminds me of my mom's bird named Lou. He talks all day like Ruby and says soooo many things that we can't even count! He also speaks in spanish! lol!

My 6 year old blue and gold macaw is a huge Ruby fan. we watch ruby almost every day because he seems to say more after watching ruby. I can hardly keep him off the computer.
@Youdsavedme She is kind of small for a grey, about a foot long and less than a pound. They usually get about 14 inches long, and a little bit over a pound.
My favorite part is where she purrs 29 seconds into the video. Ruby is awesome, smart and beyond adorable! I have a lilac crowned Amazon. Birds rule!!!
My Jacqueline used to have feathers just like this, they're not so neat now and she's starting to grow red feathers on her belly, but it kind of fits her personality hehe.
You have stated that you feed your Grey a variety of foods. I have a Grey named Lucy. Besides food that I buy her at Petsmart I feed her oatmeal & grapes. Oh she likes Cheetos too :) But I'm afraid to try new things because I don't want her to get sick. I know parrots absolutely can't have chocolate or avacados. What other foods do you not give your parrot for safety reasons?
Brilliant, beautiful bird! My family has a five year old Grey, Afie, and her main phrases sound very similar to Ruby's . Afie starts the day with "Good morning sweetie, I love you!" and ends with "Night night!" or "Beddy- bye!" My dad taught her to say "Afie, apple!" when she wants food, but she quickly learned to use it whenever she wanted attention. She loves to have conversations with herself. What's Ruby's favourite food?
Her very favorite food is meat (any kind) but we only give her a tiny bit and chop it up into microscopic little pieces so she doesn't choke. She also loves all kinds of carbs - pasta, rice, beans, potatoes - alot. She eats alot of fruit, besides her seeds and pellets. She HATES milk and cheese, which is good, and is not a fan of any kind of green vegetable, cooked or raw (just like her daddy!)
I think that's what some breeders of African Greys call a "Cameroon" variant. They tend to be a bit larger, and the feathers on the tops of their heads are a bit darker than the 'standard' breed. Also, their tails seem to be a bit brighter red. They are absolutely gorgeous birds.
@JadeIsAGoodGirl - We didn't have Ruby sexed, either, but she is very small and the different vets we've had her to say she is more than likely a female, so we pretend she is (hahahaha). Our vet clips just a few feathers on each wing so she can fly down without hurting herself, but she can't fly straight across or up when they are clipped. She has a ladder to get from her cage to the floor. Thanks for watching! Ruby's Mom
i am just speechless at ruby's vocabulary,,,i always find it adorable that they speak in the same manner they are spoken to. ( with lots of love) you have an amazing bird there!!!! ( i love the phone trouble hahahahaaaaaaa0)
We clip her wings so that she can fly down, but not up - that way she doesn't crash into the floor, but she can't hurt herself by flying all over the place.
Wow she is quite the talker. Cool. Can you tell me which feather you clip so she can glide down and not bounce and hit floor hard. I know how to clip and but not sure how many .
i love how she scolds herself. "don't you bite me" and "RUBY!!" haha, i love this parrot. she puts me in a good mood whenever i watch her. i say some of the things she says too. haha i love her
This bird is more interesting then my wife! My wife just lay in front of the TV with rum raisin ice cream and watch lifetime 24/7! She only talks to say t"ake out the garbage Robby it smells in here" im getting a divorce and getting a grey african parrot!
When a Grey talks she/he is at their most content. You have a very happy bird there. Maybe get a CD recording of what you want her to say. I can tell she is dying to learn more words.
Sad.....I had a Grey I hand feed for months. The first time it flew it went straight out the back door and up a tree. An Osprey (hawk) had him for dinner. He was only 6 months old and could talk a storm. I'm thinking of getting another one.
Beautiful bird, you obviously love her and have made her a part of the family. Thanks for posting, I can't wait to share this!

When a Grey talks she/he is at their most content. You have a very happy bird there. Maybe get a CD recording of what you want her to say. I can tell she is dying to learn more words.
Good video.

Sad.....I had a Grey I hand feed for months. The first time it flew it went straight out the back door and up a tree. An Osprey (hawk) had him for dinner. He was only 6 months old and could talk a storm. I'm thinking of getting another one.

Very interesting video. Ruby's impression of the telephone ringing was great.
