God knows where we are and what it takes to have a relationship with him. We need most of all to learn to rest in God. Sure, it's easy for ppl in Bible College to seek God all day long and live "holy" all day long. But when you go out in the real world (THE OTHER MISSION FEILD) "holiness" ain't so easy

@coolfunkDJ it seems he leans towards it, but if you listen to his sermons, & personal interviews he seems 2be a man who lives by the Word entirely and alone. On one hand he understands that unless God draws a man none would come to be saved, & at the same time states truth, anyone who comes to Christ will in no wise be cast out. I think it wrong 2 cling 2 any man's doctrine (i.e. calvinism) we are Christ's & as His we will be formed into His likeness, not into calvinists. Just an obvsersation:)

If a person is born again, they will ALWAYS be born again. No one "loses salvation": because they backslide. God is able to KEEP us through it all. Paul Washer bases his salvation on how good he is before God...how good he obeys God. Folks, our righteousness comes from faith in Christ ALONE, we have no righteousness.

Washer isn't saying that people have to spiritually keep up with the Jones'. We are all part of the body of Christ and have different functions and duties within the body. When it comes to the marriage comment, He's saying that your wife or husband is not going to be perfect. That person will have faults that may drive you up the wall but you loving them unconditionally is that example of Christ loving the church in the same manner. Now tell me this..How many of your spouses are perfect?
@LaneCh Sounds like he's criticizing Paul to me, Lane. What is the problem with Paul's message? Why is it that Kirk is allowing Todd to do that? He is criticizing him in part two as well. We need more pastors that will stay and teach, seriously teach the people. This is why there are so many people in the emergent and seeker friendly churches getting watered down messages and a watered down gospel.

@livingresurection Are you inferring someone like Joel Osteen when you speak of "big ministries?" Or would, that be someone like John MacArthur? Both are sizable ministries, reaching around the globe, but Washer has preached at one of these men's churches. He'd turn the tables at the other one.
And does the type of ministry you prefer not teach much on the doctrines of hell or the consequences of sin?
I agree with what you are saying, Paul washer does preach alot on hell which I like because I can always go to someone else for grace if I want. I like Paul Washer because he creates the narrowest path possible for a Christian which people don't like. If Paul preached at Joels' church those people would hate Joel afterwards. Not to say that God isn't our provider as Joel says, because he is our provider. He lacks a bit of Paul and others doctrine.
@Dunnization God has sent His Holy Spirit into the world to convict men of sin & to enlighten darkened & depraved minds to the saving truths contained in Scripture (John 16:8; Rom 10:17; Eph 3:9). Man is depicted as the responder who, in his spiritually destitute state, is convicted & enlightened by the Holy Spirit, & answers back in simple faith to the promises of the Gospel. This is the grace that Washer preaches & you won't hear any truth like this from Osteen & his Word of Faith cronies.
@Dunnization Instead, you will hear from Osteen a massive obsession with THIS life, when the main reason Jesus died was to save us from our sins & redeem us for the NEXT life. Osteen never even uses the word 'sin,' preferring to skate around it. His doctrine of "positive confession' does not save; it is no different than Rhonda Browne's book, "The Secret" (Law of Attraction.) It is mysticism. Do an internet word search for "Sola Scriptura for Charismatics vs. The Madness of Mysticism."
Paul washer is only telling it like it is. we have to get over this "post modern - Softness". reading the bible you understand that the Gospel is black and white. there's no grey areas.

I don't get why Paul Washer, a Calvinist, is so agressive and emotional in delivering his sermons, or why there is a premium put on tears of 'repentance'. If God has his elect, then surely all you need to do is clearly tell the truth regardless of tone or emotionalism, and God's elect will respond. Truth speaks for itself; you don't need to get so worked up or need to see people weep or whatever.

I see what u mean, but when u say "God's elect will respond"...think of what that response looks like....look at Paul, Daniel, Psalmists, John Edwards, Martin Lloyd Jones, etc... primarily Jesus. Stoicism is never a response to the Gospel.
You don't need to ask God to send you a mate that will help you conform to holiness - that's too much pressure on a spouse whether they be a woman or man. Just finding someone who is half way regular is difficult enough!
Paul Washer speaks about how we can conform to the likeliness of Christ. I have heard many of his sermons and his central theme is: put Christ first. How many preachers speak truth or just simply: what God can do for you--namely: a new car, better job, more self-esteem, etc. Todd Friel needs to examine his own life as we all should. Mocking a man of God who asks you only to put Christ first puts you in the camp of King Ahab or perhaps his "lovely" wife Jezebel. Friel--the dogs are coming. :)
@mahhootenanny the likeness of Christ is the goal, and the fact that we cannot attain this goal lets you know that no matter how long you have been born again, you must work daily in order to grow in faith. you can always love more, you can always obey more, you can always be more receptive to the Holy Spirit.
and he'll be kind and encouraging with the people that need encouragement. (seriously, he's not the 100% hellfire and brimstone preacher people like to make him out to be) he preaches sovereign grace to arminians, and evangelism to hyper-calvinists. his sermons are always to a specific audience.

This is easy to answer if you listen to the video : Two points that were brought up. 1.) That we should have a passion for Christ and doing things for his kingdom. 2.) God will give us a spouse who helps up to conform more to the image of Christ. Todd Friel (with a his ignorant voice of mockery and idle talk) tells people not to feel bad about not doing the will of God! We should absolutely be horrified if we love Christ not to do his will. Let's put it how Paul Washer said it in another one of
his videos. It was something to the extent of " he told the planets to go to their places and they fell at his feet and listened! He told the stars to go to the outer most parts of the universe and they listened! he told the valleys to be sunk down and the mountains to be lifted up and they listened. He told the ocean to come to a point but go no farther and it listened! He tells us to do the will of his father but NO! We don't want to. And about the marriage thing. That was simply mockery.

haha Todd Friel is a joke. If Ray Comfort had anything to do with this, then I will no longer listen to his ministry. Paul Washer's ministry is true. If I was the Way of the Master, I would be critiquing my own defense against debates on evolution, because THEY simply lost.
He doesn't know what it is about Paul Washer, why so many want to hear him speak? It is because he unashamedly preaches the true gospel and God moves because he keeps his promises. It has nothing to do with Paul Washer. His words are powerful because they are not his.

Todd Friel sounds so IRreverent. I didn't enjoy listening to him. I think Paul Washer is a very honest, truth-speaking preacher. I wonder if people realize that what he says is for their benefit, not his own. I don't think I want to listen to Ray Comfort any more. I think he just showed his true colors.
Todd seems to be mocking Paul. Todd does not understand the reason Paul is asked to extend his stay to preach some more. Paul is preaching the true gospel, and people are hungry for it. I don't think this host understand what Paul is trying to say about the marriage. Paul is not saying "oh god give me a spous who is so different from me, so that I can be pissed off at her or him. And maybe that will change me to become better me." Paul is just saying, "even if you have problem with your spouse you must love and love and love some more.

This radio personality is almost completely useless, according to what I just listened to. Paul's message was convicting and quick to the heart, but this man seemed more interested in blunting its sharp point than rather looking in to see if it was true.
Todd Friel could really learn something from Paul Washer. There's something about Paul's preaching that I don't get from the great vast of other preachers. Glorious Gratitude. To be reminded that God is so Awesome we don't have the utterances to describe Him. God is so Holy, so glorious, so magnificent that we cannot fathom or communicate such a being. He reminds us that we have a purpose. And that is entirely to live for God's glory.

He is not going to give everyone mates because some will remain single. The divorce rate shows that some were meant to be single (unless it is a widow) if these do not commit the sin of remarrying. We do not use God to get a husband or wife. Matthew 5:32 says,
"But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery".

Basically Washer comes from the standpoint that to get a sinner saved you must verbally beat them down until they agree they are worthless..when in fact the sinner is so valuable, that when we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. It is with lovingkindness we are drawn to God...not a verbal beat-down.
The reason I ask is because Osteen focuses on the heretical "side of Christianity" and Washer focuses on the Biblical aspects. I was wondering if you enjoyed reading heresy more than you do the Bible. Thanks for sharing.

i think i need help, i fell in love with a girl when i THOUGHT i was a christian and she told me she was so i thought it was ok.. and after being with her for 2 years and strugglin to grow in christ and practice sexual immorality with her at the same time,
she left me because she wanted to live her life now and i was holding her back from the things she wanted to do, and of course i was crushed for almost 4 months and almost killed myself... but i dont get what to do now, i had sex with her, so is she my wife? Would it be adultery if i thought there was a woman of God in my life i was suppose to marry, i mean if i married her?
This may shock you some, but I was in the exact same situation. I dated a girl in my early 20's and we fornicated out of wedlock. She left me for a couple someone else's, and I was devastated. She was surely not my wife, and because we had sex, she still is not. We did fornicate, though, just as you have, and it is sin. It must be repented of. It means turning away from it and trusting Christ who shed his blood to take away the sins of all those who believe.
I'm pretty sure if you fornicated with her, you probably looked at her to lust after her, too, and that is adultery that needs to be repented of. As far as she being a Christian, did she say she was one because she loved Jesus Christ and wanted to keep his commandments because he has come in the flesh and has been raised from the dead, or did she deem herself to be one because she attended a particular meeting group regularly such as FCA or church?
like i said, this was when i THOUGHT i was a christian, i was very confused about the definition, and though maybe i WAS a christian she definitely was not and is not...

If you are not fully satisfied in Christ alone you should never get married; unless it is the case that you can't control yourself (1 Cor.7). But a wife given to you while you are not fully satisfied in Christ is not a gift from God, it is sin. If we are not fully satisfied in him what in the world would ever make us think he would give us something else to be satisfied in? God does not give us idols.

I understand completely about being torn up inside. I think you should seriously seek some other than mine advice on this rather than mine, but I will say that I find in Scripture Paul exhorting to "get married so you won't fornicate", but not "if you fornicate with her, you are now married." He speaks of those who fornicate with a harlot being joined to a harlot, but I don't see him saying that you are now married to the harlot. (Not that your ex was a harlot, just explaining thoroughly...)

You must be financially able to provide for a wife (Gen 2:24) and you must be able to lead her spiritually. The real question is; are you watching for a wife or looking for one? He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. (Proverbs 18:22). The only gift that is good is one that is approved of by God. The only gifts given are from God. So a wife is given, not found.
I was just reading the post and was wondering what you meant by saying you had rings and everything? The Bible is very clear on NOT having sex before marriage. Reguardless if you had rings or not. The Bible also says to obey the laws of the land as long as it doesn't go against God's word. And to Todd's point about ppl with lives and doing ministry where they are at in life...It's so true. Throught my life I learned that what's good for the goose is not always good for the gander. God knows where we are and what it takes to have a relationship with him. We need most of all to learn to rest in God. I learned a VERY HARD lesson from GOD HIMSELF that he is not pleased with our efforts to obtain the standard of holiness in our own strength. I have nothing against seeking after God with the whole heart and a lifesyle of repentance. But, it's not cool to try and live a life where you never have to repent or a life where you're constantly repenting because you failed God again and are now under condemnation. What kind of relatsionship is that? Paul's good at times. But not ALL the time. IMO

You've got to be careful to work on your salvation but also to live in the grace and rest God provides. Can't let condemnation be our motivation for holiness. On one hand he understands that unless God draws a man none would come to be saved, & at the same time states truth, anyone who comes to Christ will in no wise be cast out. Paul Washer falsely teaches that if you are a Christian and you fall back into habitual sin, that you may not be a Christian after all. Hogwash...The man is deluded. If a person is born again, they will ALWAYS be born again. No one "loses salvation": because they backslide. God is able to KEEP us through it all. Paul Washer bases his salvation on how good he is before God...how good he obeys God. Folks, our righteousness comes from faith in Christ ALONE, we have no righteousness.

Washer isn't saying that people have to spiritually keep up with the Jones'. We are all part of the body of Christ and have different functions and duties within the body. When it comes to the marriage comment, He's saying that your wife or husband is not going to be perfect. That person will have faults that may drive you up the wall but you loving them unconditionally is that example of Christ loving the church in the same manner. Now tell me this..How many of your spouses are perfect?

We need more pastors that will stay and teach, seriously teach the people. @livingresurection Are you inferring someone like Joel Osteen when you speak of "big ministries?" Or would, that be someone like John MacArthur? Both are sizable ministries, reaching around the globe, but Washer has preached at one of these men's churches. He'd turn the tables at the other one.
And does the type of ministry you prefer not teach much on the doctrines of hell or the consequences of sin?

I agree with what you are saying, Paul washer does preach alot on hell which I like because I can always go to someone else for grace if I want. I like Paul Washer because he creates the narrowest path possible for a Christian which people don't like. If Paul preached at Joels' church those people would hate Joel afterwards. Not to say that God isn't our provider as Joel says, because he is our provider. He lacks a bit of Paul and others doctrine.

Osteen never even uses the word 'sin,' preferring to skate around it. I don't get why Paul Washer, a Calvinist, is so agressive and emotional in delivering his sermons, or why there is a premium put on tears of 'repentance'. If God has his elect, then surely all you need to do is clearly tell the truth regardless of tone or emotionalism, and God's elect will respond. Truth speaks for itself; you don't need to get so worked up or need to see people weep or whatever.
Some people say if you dont speak in tongues, you arent regenerate. Rubbish. Same goes for tears.

Paul Washer speaks about how we can conform to the likeliness of Christ. I have heard many of his sermons and his central theme is: put Christ first. How many preachers speak truth or just simply: what God can do for you--namely: a new car, better job, more self-esteem, etc. Todd Friel needs to examine his own life as we all should. Mocking a man of God who asks you only to put Christ first puts you in the camp of King Ahab or perhaps his "lovely" wife Jezebel. Friel--the dogs are coming. :)

and he'll be kind and encouraging with the people that need encouragement. (seriously, he's not the 100% hellfire and brimstone preacher people like to make him out to be) he preaches sovereign grace to arminians, and evangelism to hyper-calvinists. his sermons are always to a specific audience.
I don't think Todd COMPLETELY gets that, and and that same time I never saw him completely disagree with Paul about anything.

Todd seems to be mocking Paul. Todd does not understand the reason Paul is asked to extend his stay to preach some more. Paul is preaching the true gospel, and people are hungry for it. Todd Friel could really learn something from Paul Washer. There's something about Paul's preaching that I don't get from the great vast of other preachers. Glorious Gratitude. To be reminded that God is so Awesome we don't have the utterances to describe Him. God is so Holy, so glorious, so magnificent that we cannot fathom or communicate such a being. i dont really mind this that much but i wish stuff like this wouldnt be put on youtube....i love paul washer and i do like this program, to an extent, but i wish these 'nonchalant' conversations werent put on youtube...just a thought..

well, its not that i dont like these guys or anything, i just wish they wouldnt approach these topics to flippantly. i doubt paul washer would liketobe known asa'biblethumber'..the gospel is the most serious matter in the world and the world(especially the usa) doesnt take christians seriously..so,im not trying to bash these guys by any means, its just that i wish they would approach the gospel more reverntly..nonbelievers see this stuff all the time and they shouldnt see it as a joke or funny..

God does not love sinners unconditionally; however, in the context of marriage, it is more unconditional to commit no divorce.
We do not lust after GAINING a husband because MARRIAGE is not required and we do not seek after the BEST MARRIAGE LIFE NOW.

He is not going to give everyone mates because some will remain single. The divorce rate shows that some were meant to be single (unless it is a widow) if these do not commit the sin of remarrying. We do not use God to get a husband or wife. Matthew 5:32 says,
"But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery".

Basically Washer comes from the standpoint that to get a sinner saved you must verbally beat them down until they agree they are worthless..when in fact the sinner is so valuable, that when we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. It is with lovingkindness we are drawn to God...not a verbal beat-down.

The reason I ask is because Osteen focuses on the heretical "side of Christianity" and Washer focuses on the Biblical aspects. I was wondering if you enjoyed reading heresy more than you do the Bible. Thanks for sharing.

There is nothing good in Gods eyes from a man that isnt saved nothing. Even when you do get saved it is his son he sees not you. Have you not read?

she left me because she wanted to live her life now and i was holding her back from the things she wanted to do, and of course i was crushed for almost 4 months and almost killed myself... but i dont get what to do now, i had sex with her, so is she my wife? Would it be adultery if i thought there was a woman of God in my life i was suppose to marry, i mean if i married her?

This may shock you some, but I was in the exact same situation. I dated a girl in my early 20's and we fornicated out of wedlock. She left me for a couple someone else's, and I was devastated. She was surely not my wife, and because we had sex, she still is not. We did fornicate, though, just as you have, and it is sin. It must be repented of. It means turning away from it and trusting Christ who shed his blood to take away the sins of all those who believe.

I'm pretty sure if you fornicated with her, you probably looked at her to lust after her, too, and that is adultery that needs to be repented of. As far as she being a Christian, did she say she was one because she loved Jesus Christ and wanted to keep his commandments because he has come in the flesh and has been raised from the dead, or did she deem herself to be one because she attended a particular meeting group regularly such as FCA or church?

like i said, this was when i THOUGHT i was a christian, i was very confused about the definition, and though maybe i WAS a christian she definitely was not and is not...
fornication is adultery, i understand that... it's just that we had prayed and promised we would stay together until we died, and then we had sex, which i THOUGHT i had read WAS what marriege was... we had rings and everything...

Oh, goodness. I will keep you in my prayers because it is hard to deal with, but remember that Jesus Christ is risen and he is light. In him is no darkness. He will pull you out of this.
Also, just to clarify, fornication with each other is only adultery if you or her are married to another. It is still sin regardless, though.

what i really am wondering is whether getting married now would be sinful... Because theres this girl i know who is a REAL christian, the kind that is a Christian because she felt conviction, saw that she was sinning against jesus christ who died for her, and saw he whole life was an offense, and repented...

If you are not fully satisfied in Christ alone you should never get married; unless it is the case that you can't control yourself (1 Cor.7). But a wife given to you while you are not fully satisfied in Christ is not a gift from God, it is sin. If we are not fully satisfied in him what in the world would ever make us think he would give us something else to be satisfied in? God does not give us idols.

I understand completely about being torn up inside. I think you should seriously seek some other than mine advice on this rather than mine, but I will say that I find in Scripture Paul exhorting to "get married so you won't fornicate", but not "if you fornicate with her, you are now married." He speaks of those who fornicate with a harlot being joined to a harlot, but I don't see him saying that you are now married to the harlot. (Not that your ex was a harlot, just explaining thoroughly...)

You must be financially able to provide for a wife (Gen 2:24) and you must be able to lead her spiritually. The real question is; are you watching for a wife or looking for one? He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. (Proverbs 18:22). The only gift that is good is one that is approved of by God. The only gifts given are from God. So a wife is given, not found.

I was just reading the post and was wondering what you meant by saying you had rings and everything? The Bible is very clear on NOT having sex before marriage. Reguardless if you had rings or not. The Bible also says to obey the laws of the land as long as it doesn't go against God's word. Now saying to one another "hey we now have rings and we have made a promise to each other to stay together until death, is vain talk.

Wedding is not for the people toward each other but rather the vows are to God. Satan has decieved you both into believing a lie, as with the lie starting in Gen. Satan is very good at what he does. Although the words of it all is romantism at it's best, it still ended up being the same sin of fornication. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Meaning you're putting her well being, mind, body and soul before your own life.
