This is almost fictional, since the Bolivians where only three soldiers, their Colonel and a police man, and just one of them died. Also Butch and Sundance Kid killed themselves inside the building.
@joefreeman856 What are you on about? The real Butch Cassidy and Sundance did not die either inside or outside the building. Go check your facts. Its a movie!
That scene was removed from the final product. The director felt it was too contrived. It's available on the DVD (the two dvd set), with a lot of other great scenes.
Look at the distances involved, and consider the fact that many of the lawmen were (initially) using handguns. It's a lot harder than you would think to hit a moving target with a pistol at those distances.
I saw a version of this movie in berlin, 1974. there is a scene that i have not seen since. the scene is etta place leaving the guys as they watch a silent movie of the deaths of themselves in a shootout. I saw the movie when it opened in calif. in about 1970. and that silent movie scene was not in it. Has anyone else seen this version?
I've seen it. I think I saw it on a television special about the filming of the movie. It was a good scene and , I thought, helped explain why Eta left. I'm surprised they cut it in the final release.
@cptviolenc It's supposedly in the director's cut. I might've seen it but it's hard to remember...it's a scene discussed all the way back in high school for me.
On the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid DVD which I bought about a year ago there is a mention of this extra scene which was cut from the release version. Someone in 20th C Fox found the footage and it appears on the DVD as part of one of the "extras".
Yes this scene was in a very early cut of the film. Someone at Fox found the footage for one of the documentaries about the film. Bought the DVD about a year ago and it is there in one of the "extras" included.
The beautiful thing (one of them) for me, here, is the simple hope that there is in Butch's speech about going to Australia. And the moment of the decision making, the very moment they go, 9:34. Lovely. This is my favourite movie. I really love those characters that hope and fight to the very end, no matter their cause, it's something intimate, their essence, if not their meaning. Thanks for posting :)
"That afternoon the entire Bolivian army was wiped out by two men who brought back the American army and anal raped their 3rd-World country into next Thursday."
they didnt show when sundance pulled out infinite ammo and put shield barrier , so they eventually acquired plasma rifles and became space cowboys and traveled to the death star to rob it.
The Bolivian Police has met their match against the sundance kid. It just goes to show they needed the Bolivian state cavalry troop to finish the job.
Good film overall, but i have to say i wasnt overly impressed with the ending. For them both to just die was a pretty poor way to end it. There was no showdown with the Laforz guy (the guy with the white hat) and no mention of the girl and whether she got back home etc. I wouldnt say it was a rushed ending, but it didnt satisfy me as a viewer.
@rottwielerking The actual story was that two unidentified men held up a mule caravan, took the money, then ran to a nearby town where they were plugged full of enough holes that they weren't recognizable, commited suicide, and then they were dumped into an unmarked grave. There's no real "ending" to the story, just assumptions.
It makes you wonder, why didn't this make 2 billion in box office? Just goes to show that box office has no correlation to how good a movie actually is!
Butch: You never could shoot, not from the very beginning! Sundance: And you are all mouth!

If they remake this movie they should show the final battle with the Bolivian army and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid should defeat all of them.

The Sundance Kid: at least 14 Bolivian Police Officers
Bolivian Cavalry Company: 2 wounded Gringos
Who got Etta Place (Katharine Ross)?
The Concordia Tin Mine payroll bandit scene should be posted.
