  • Arrau the "Maestro"... in the score is wrote MODERATO. This the correct tempo, is possible to hear every note, every nuance, every colour...fantastic!

  • テンポがちょうどよく、聴きやすいです。

  • I first heard many faster played versions before i came in contact with this one. At first I thought this tempo was too slow. But now I am changed of mind. The slower version sounds much more natural than the faster ones.

  • Debussy was a @&%\~ genius !! I love his work...

  • I like Debussy because you can use your own tempo, play around with it throughout the piece and come up with your own interpretation. I am also teaching myself this piece and I have to say that I like the slower tempo as well

  • Lovely! I'm currently learning this, and it's much better at a slower tempo in my opinion. Then you can really hear the beauty of it! ♥♫

  • incredible! wouldnt say it sounded so much better at slow speed... but it does

  • I didn´t like much. Looks like he is reading, not memorized. He doens´t play with heart. There´s no surprise. There´s too much notes which should be played at the same time on the piece and here are not. I have listened to some more interpretations I like more. There´s too much pedal also...

Well, this space is dedicated to post comments, and here´s my comment about it. Thanks.

  • @Dihelson Check out Rubato on wiki. It explains why he doesn't play certain notes together

  • @Dihelson LOL!!! You're an idiot, yah know that?

  • @Dihelson Well....he's playing it rubato, as the music indicates. You just don't like it, but it's not "wrong." Also, this is impressionist music, there's kind of supposed to be pedal. I'd get the "too much pedal" comment if he were playing Beethoven, only because there's almost no pedal markings written by Beethoven.

But this is impressionist music. You use the pedal in Debussy and Ravel's music....a lot. Hell, you use the left pedal a lot as well, and sometimes, even the middle pedal!

  • If you have it please upload clair de lune from the same album, Claudio Arrau's interpretation of Debussy is the best I have heard, supreme talent

  • this deserves more 5 stars rating.

  • Who's playing?

I'm learning this Prélude and i love Debussy so much!

  • Plays one of the greatest masters of the piano of all times... Claudio Arrau.

  • This does sound slow to me, but on reflection it's quite legitimate: the tempo is marked "moderato." I don't see how anyone could say this is too slow for moderato. After all, if you took the 2nd mvmt of Beethoven's 7th at this temp it would be fine, and that's an allegretto.

  • febilas performance!

he plays this piece so deep.

  • A wonderful variety of colours and touch, but the piece lacks momentum at this tempo-Weissenberg strikes me as preferable in this music.

  • Debussy's impressionist way of composing allows a lot of room for interpretation, so different styles have different meanings.

  • It sounds better at slow speed. Great performance!

  • for 4:35 does the trill start on the note or above it?

  • it´s on the note ...

  • What a lovely interpretation. I love this piece played at a slower tempo.

  • I soo agree... When I first played this piece a played it a lot more slowly than what most play it at, and it gives me a beautiful mental image that's not nearly as awesome at a fast tempo.

  • very very good.

  • Maravilloso

  • That was lovely- amazing performance- it works fantastically at that speed

  • oh sorry about my comment

i didn't realize it actually was posted

    aah!

    sorry again

    whoops

but i loved the piece thx 4 posting it

  • awesomeness

  • who plays this?

I was wondering why the others speed it up so much, although both versions have their beauty :o)

  • well the tempo as written is faster, but I prefer it this way.

  • so much feeling!! *fallinginlove*

  • Finally a performance with feeling! So many others just rip through this piece and loss all traces of musicality. Wonderful interpretation and performance. Thank you.

  • claudio arrau -.-

  • who plays?
