I've driven by this place just about every day of my life and have yet to drop in. Coulda/woulda/shoulda! The story is that he figured it would be cooler to build a house underground because of our very hot summers in the Central Valley (California, for those of you who don't know where this place is).
Do the trees get water from an underground aquifer or are they irrigated? Reminds me of the first Star Wars Luke's adopted parents farm. This would be excellent as a rainwater harvesting tool.

Isn't it amazing how unique this place is in a worldly sense, and I haven't seen it either.
