Car companies make more money off parts and service than selling of a new car. Why would you sell a product with less moving parts. No motor no oil sales, no oil sales no filter sales, and so on and so on. The car is the only thing you can tear apart and sell the peices off for more than selling the whole thing. i was going to convert my car in to a electric car, as i (like most people) only need to go from A to B and back to A. But it turns out that wont be able to have my car on the road because 1) the car will need to be checked by an electrician if its safe, 2) i'll have to let the DVLA change the car details and will need to pay a fee and then 3) my car insurance will go up because i have modified my car even through it will be more slower.

GM was also one of the big companies that helped finance Greyhound bus Company get started, which makes sense. This meant more busses which ran off fuel as apposed to the electric passenger trains that the big oil and auto companies wanted to destroy. For those that don't know, water is hydrogen and oxygen, what we run the spaceshuttle on. The difficult part has been finding a way to get the molecule to let go without using too much energy to do it. There is a ceramic catalyst showing promise at the moment, ongoing.

electric cars are garbage....producing batteries is a process that requires tons of fossil fuels in digging up harmful substances and transporting them, then the batteries go flat and you just dump them into a landfill which isn't very "ecofriendly" either. If an electric car is garbage then so is a cordless drill and a laptop computer, because the technology is exactly the same, just bigger. A Tesla runs on laptop batts, the drive motor is like a cordless drill only AC instaed of DC.
Most batteres last around 8-10 years after which they are recycled.
The largest minning machine is an electric vehicle! and the smaller ones often hybrid with regen brakes. Electric drive is supperior in all ways to internal Combuston.
electric cars use a ton of energy. the number one way energy is obtained is by the burning of fossil fuels. electric cars are only better for the enviroment than gasoline cars when energy is obtained by other sources ( hydroelectric, wind power, solar).

@1BustedMyth electric cars ARE better to the environment than oil cars but they are not as good as everyone seems to think so, or want to believe. there is a partial contradiction in electric cars in the way that they are not 100% eco- friendly. batteries contain poisonous chemicals and the cases and wiring is mostly made of petrochemicals. of course, the electric car commercials are going to be biased, but it seems that only in an utopian world can there be cars like those portrayed. :(

@youkeylaylee , We are seeking near 100% recycable vehicles, ALL plastics on some cars now, are shreaded and make new parts, thanks to a marking system on every part, denoting its chemistry.
Lithium Polymer batteries are light, extremely powerfull and the materials in them can be recycled into more of the same.
Even the old Lead Acid units can be recycled safely now.
Pack life in a car is 8-10 years, Prius has far exceded this some 15 years+ (Nimh). Batteries are fuel in solid form basicly

@youkeylaylee , Chemistry of fuel. go get the MDSS for fuel and read it! my first job was working at a gas station (we call them service stations) start soaking your hand in some fuel everyday for a month and see what happens, start breathing the vapors and watch your whole immune system shut down. We had an incident were crew breathed oil vapour from the engines in a Bae146 jet and all suffered extreme health problems, some have never recovered and that was from a few hours of exposure.

The readings were saying that the air was not fit to breath, that infact if the sample was taken in aworkplace you would be required under OHS law to have a full respirator. His boss said the readings must be wrong, so they were redone 3 times at different sites and times, same result!

@Clausfarre , At the moment hydrogen fuel cells are just a dream, but I hope it changes. Platinum is still the primary needed catalyst for they're function, even after all that you have a short range, but the refuelling is quick, if you can get the fuel. A HFCEV ( Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) will set you back $1mil at the moment. EV is the same drive system less the Fuel cell and gas tank and they are available RIGHT NOW!

@dan52484 Sorry, you're wrong, check out the Wrightspeed X1 and the Ariel Atom, electric motors build up torque like crazy. These cars were made by relatively small companies, imagine if a big car company manufactured one. The only thing holding back electric vehicles commercially is the batteries.

An elctric Hyundai gets takes $8k of Lipo batts, $25k if you use the best brand on the market. Batteries are the next petrol, oil companies would be best to accept this and start using their fortunes to mass produce them, that way everybody wins. Cheers

No motor no oil sales, no oil sales no filter sales, and so on and so on. The car is the only thing you can tear apart and sell the peices off for more than selling the whole thing. i was going to convert my car in to a electric car, as i (like most people) only need to go from A to B and back to A. But it turns out that wont be able to have my car on the road because 1) the car will need to be checked by an electrician if its safe, 2) i'll have to let the DVLA change the car details and will need to pay a fee and then 3) my car insurance will go up because i have modified my car even through it will be more slower.

GM was also one of the big companies that helped finance Greyhound bus Company get started, which makes sense. This meant more busses which ran off fuel as apposed to the electric passenger trains that the big oil and auto companies wanted to destroy. For those that don't know, water is hydrogen and oxygen, what we run the spaceshuttle on. The difficult part has been finding a way to get the molecule to let go without using too much energy to do it. There is a ceramic catalyst showing promise at the moment, ongoing.

If an electric car is garbage then so is a cordless drill and a laptop computer, because the technology is exactly the same, just bigger. A Tesla runs on laptop batts, the drive motor is like a cordless drill only AC instaed of DC.
Most batteres last around 8-10 years after which they are recycled.
The largest minning machine is an electric vehicle! and the smaller ones often hybrid with regen brakes. Electric drive is supperior in all ways to internal Combuston.

@1BustedMyth electric cars ARE better to the environment than oil cars but they are not as good as everyone seems to think so, or want to believe. there is a partial contradiction in electric cars in the way that they are not 100% eco- friendly. batteries contain poisonous chemicals and the cases and wiring is mostly made of petrochemicals. of course, the electric car commercials are going to be biased, but it seems that only in an utopian world can there be cars like those portrayed. :(

Air, water and soil polution are the greatest problems. EV's are a HUGE step in the right direction, every journey starts with a single step. using oil for plastics is credible, burning it is not, bio plastics will come soon, some are already available.
Nothing gets done if you sit around waiting for the 100% solution.

@youkeylaylee , We are seeking near 100% recycable vehicles, ALL plastics on some cars now, are shreaded and make new parts, thanks to a marking system on every part, denoting its chemistry.
Lithium Polymer batteries are light, extremely powerfull and the materials in them can be recycled into more of the same.
Even the old Lead Acid units can be recycled safely now.
Pack life in a car is 8-10 years, Prius has far exceded this some 15 years+ (Nimh). Batteries are fuel in solid form basicly

@youkeylaylee , Chemistry of fuel. go get the MDSS for fuel and read it! my first job was working at a gas station (we call them service stations) start soaking your hand in some fuel everyday for a month and see what happens, start breathing the vapors and watch your whole immune system shut down. We had an incident were crew breathed oil vapour from the engines in a Bae146 jet and all suffered extreme health problems, some have never recovered and that was from a few hours of exposure.

@youkeylaylee , I colleague of mine worked for the Epa in melbourne, his job was to take air samples in the heart of the business district in the 9-5 time slot.
The readings were saying that the air was not fit to breath, that infact if the sample was taken in aworkplace you would be required under OHS law to have a full respirator. His boss said the readings must be wrong, so they were redone 3 times at different sites and times, same result!

@1BustedMyth ur right about all this, EV's are better- that does not mean they are particularily good- or ideal (to me). is a car that emitts no harmful gases, is easily recyclable, affordable, and safe to much to ask? - i guess so. when EV's came out to the public, everyone was freaking out, with the wrong idea. sure they're a lot better than gasoline cars, but they have only heard one side of the story or choose to do so. Some people think EV's are perfect but they're not -nothing really is.

EV's work!, work well, are a HUGE step forward in cleanness and people want them. Before GM recalled and destroyed the EV1's all of their owners, begged, pleaded and overed to pay cash to keep their cars.

A senior Doctor at Sydney Hospital has on record stated that he estimates there are around a thousand deaths a year that are a result of the effect of these extremely agressive chemicals on lung tissue, young and frail are most at risk.

Data samples from Csiro, EPA and others show air in cities is extremly poluted with petrochemicals. Unburnt fuel is worse: science data, not my opinion.

@Clausfarre , At the moment hydrogen fuel cells are just a dream, but I hope it changes. Platinum is still the primary needed catalyst for they're function, even after all that you have a short range, but the refuelling is quick, if you can get the fuel. A HFCEV ( Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) will set you back $1mil at the moment. EV is the same drive system less the Fuel cell and gas tank and they are available RIGHT NOW!

@dan52484 Sorry, you're wrong, check out the Wrightspeed X1 and the Ariel Atom, electric motors build up torque like crazy. These cars were made by relatively small companies, imagine if a big car company manufactured one. The only thing holding back electric vehicles commercially is the batteries.

@NathanielEverist , Your completely correct except for the batteries, we have batteries that are more then good enough right now and have had for a while, its mass production of them to get the price down that is now needed.
An elctric Hyundai gets takes $8k of Lipo batts, $25k if you use the best brand on the market. Batteries are the next petrol, oil companies would be best to accept this and start using their fortunes to mass produce them, that way everybody wins. Cheers

If you have more than enough energy, there would be no point in selling it. (You even wonder why we're not charges for the air we breathe?)I'll give you just a few examples - solar and wind energy - widely known, however their potential remains unexpressed. There's also tidal and wave energy. And there's the geothernal energy. All clean and renewable.

Think of how a magnifying glass works, then how a nuclear power plant works(boiling water)....think of how much you cold produce via this method. They have something called a Fresnel Lens that is like a giant magnifying glass, think if you pointed it at some bottles filled with water...the steam from those bottles could push a turbine which would be connected to an electricity collector.
