You were using Maya..

Use Cinema 4-D dude, you would make a character in like less than a week. (Since the basic human shape and joints are already set up for you)

When I first started 3d I used Cinema 4D and it is very good. In the top 5 3d packages. Only problem is there isnt much tutorials for it and it is no where as widely used as Maya or 3D Studio Max

It's close enough. I mean, the closest to a 3D MS would be those 3D videos on the MapleStory website.

This is pretty close. Just that the body is more realistic and less chibi, but the head is still huge (and chibi-styled)
