  • this hair routine brings back memories my mum use to do this hairstyle for me when i was kid. I even got called once spider head because of it lol, really made my hair grow

  • best way, my mum used to do it on my head being young, ever since my hair is soft, best african tip!

  • THAT LOOKS VERY TIME CONSUMING - I NEED STRETCH AND GO FOR MY 4C HAIR.

  • its very popular in africa , my mum used to do that to my hair too , i so it too with mine

  • @CeaJaii agreed. When I used to be in Africa the person doing my hair used to do this.

  • I had this wen I was growing up. I now do it to my two year old, snd her hair is almost mbl. She has type , 3c/4a type hair and lots of it. I really like this...we called it twining wer im from..

  • Thanks for the video! I will definitely try this! :)

  • This is something my mum is always done to my hair when i child. She make like 20 or 30 small ones and then tie them together creating different styles. I never got to see the real texture of my hair because it was always stretched. \this is very common in my country, Equatorial Guinea.

  • Mann... My Mom used to do the ALLL time when i was little. it was probably my signature hair sytle. oohhh the memories.

  • This video was so dumb... Her hair looked exactly the same she should have just done a braid out ....

  • @rececup87 the point was to stretch it not give it a style, also it's an alternative to braiding, and would work for people with shorter hair since braids don't always work for everyone. Also there are some people who don't like braid outs, so again something different to do.

  • i love the music. it reminds me of the last time i went to nigeria. are you nigerian or west african by any chance?

  • That was so interesting!? lol. I loved the little dance you did after you were finished tying your hair up. And this music makes me want to take a vacation, I love it! : )

  • This is good makes a lot of sence, think i wld try it on my african hair. Thanks

  • You are beautiful. I'm white but I really don't understand why you could not just scrape your natural hair back into a pony tail like you did at the end without putting yourself through all that torture with the thread, not to mention how long it must take you and how much time you could use doing something else. Black women's hair is gorgeous whether it's fluffy or pouffy or coarse. Just cut it short and wear some lovely earrings and nice lipstick and look beautiful without worrying

  • @userexists123 The reason why she couldn't put it in a ponytail before is because it wasn't stretched long enough to fit into the ponytail...(when its longer she can) But our hair shrinks in it's natural state making it appear shorter than what it actually is, so you can't really pull off stretched styles. In it's natural state we have to place some kind of tension to keep the hair stretched or heat can be used.(like blow drying, but its more damaging)

  • I liked the vdieo loved the music...who is it?

    Thnx

  • Can you reuse the thread ? Or do you need new thread every time?

  • @Jazzypoo07 You can reuse it as long as you don't cut it too short, and even if its too short, you can add more thread in the middle

  • Loved it. Thanks for sharing.

  • ...and I knew throwing away my weaving-thread would come back to haunt me. *Smh* :-/

  • @M0N3t7 lol

  • @dinachi85 Lol...got one agian for .99. :-p :)

  • Pedi-feet, you've got some pretty toenails, lol. :-)

  • Oh my goodness I really enjoyed this video you are gorgeous who's face makeup brand and shade are you wearing. I think we are the same complexion and I want to buy it. You know I ordered the hair thread over a year ago now I know I can do it myself instead of going to a salon thanks.

  • Thanks for this great tutorial, it is sooo helpful since i'm entering my 1st year of naturalness!!

  • I love the music playing!!!

  • Love the music ..such a beautiful person..love the lil dance u did :)

do u know if threading grows afro hair ? Im thinking of doing this protective hair style in the summer holidays when my school term ends.

  • Nigerians do this aswell.. my mum used to do it for me all the time... she was soo fast aswell!! great tutorial! :)

  • "nappy" hair to me looks healthy natural and cuter than the fake barbaric weaves I don't know who ever tricked us into trading that for harmful chemicals or buying someone elses hair. I still can't get my hair around how generations of black women got stuck in that mentality. even after deciding to cut off my relaxed hair and go natural about 5 years ago, I still got pressured into putting on weaves or heat straightening my hair till I just decided enough is enough. Thanks for posting this.

  • @b118ers I too think natural hair is just stunning on black women. Its more full and it makes you look like your own natural self. nothing fake just you in the raw. This is a great video.

  • Great music!!!! Nice hair...I liked your video.

    :)

  • @xenosxable Thank you very much

  • When you said you needed your toe, i got lost, lol

  • @Iheartnihon ah ah, I need it to roll my thread around it, that's it, lol

  • I love this technique much better than banding to stretch the hair. You have very fun and informative videos! I do have a question - can I thread my hair every night or will this cause damage to my hair. I found that banding the hair was causing a lot of breakage. Which is better for the hair , yarn or the weave thread?

  • @maxrobinzak I've never tried with yarn, so I can't tell, I suspect yarn would be drying.

I don't think threading your hair every night would cause any damage, just be careful with the amount of tension you put your hair through, it doesn't have to be tight at the base of the sections. You should be alright.

  • @MissMETE0R thank you for replying. I will stick with the weave thread and do not want to cause any unnecessary damage.

  • i remember this because my mum used to do it and i would stay with it for about 2-3 weeks and it made my hair grow longer and healthy until i got separated from her and didn't really know how to do it properly and i relaxed it and my hair shrinked. but now am going to start doing it again on my own. thanx this was really helpful.

  • im American and i use this method i never thought anyone eles did this i thought i was the only one lolololol its a small world after all

  • @trubgirl Yes it is, lol

  • this is how my mother used to do my hair too... lol good times.

  • @StrawberriLust Yes good old days :-)

  • Wow. This video takes me back to childhood and my mom threading (we call it kiko) my hair. I like the music too - very African.

  • @frotastick Yes it brings back memories for a lot of people :-)

  • Lol i was thinking you must be from an African country to know about this method. I do the same thing to my hair using weaving thread as well. I only double the thread and also thread it tighter for better smoothness. It comes out like straight hair that needs a perm

  • @Maa0T Yup, thanks for watching :-)

  • Thanks, MissMeteor really nice method will definitely have to try it. It seem pretty simple : I bet it's not though....lol

  • @truth448 Yes give it a try, I think you can do it, if it's at night nobody will see the results but you, lol, so don't worry. Oh and don't forget to saturate with oil when it's time to take the threads down. :-)

  • @MissMETE0R I will try can't hurt trying but it can definitely give me practice. I will also remember to saturate thread with oil before and when i take out thread...lol Thanks sweety. :)

  • where can i find this song . . . name of artist ? thx 4 a real vid

  • @ama00010 Well actually it's not a real song with a singing artist and everything, it's just an instrumental used for backgrounds.

  • My mum used to do something similar to my hair when I but instead of weaving thread she used something else and it was wrapped around more closely together and covered the whole length of the section...I'd forgotten all about it! Thanks for the reminder!

  • @kuroptd No problem and yes you're right, it can be done with a different type of thread and tighter together.

  • proper african, i like that :)

  • @Soringraven yes it is, lol :-)

  • Wonderful!

  • @missj1967 Thank you :-)

  • what does this do to your hair ?

  • Comment removed

  • @iAmWormyy It stretches it so you don't have to deal with shrinkage and the knots that come with it.

  • Now all you need is some light bulbs to hang on the ends of your hair. Kidding, this is a very good illustration. Will try this one. Thanks for uploading.

  • @marlarice No problem. Yeah I know it looks crazy when you don't tie them up together.

  • awesome thanks for sharing I will give this a try.

  • @broncofangj My pleasure, thanks for watching.

  • 12 yrd old to Mum "I like the music". I have been trying to convince my daughter that she doesnot need to straighten her hair...thanks to this vid' I may have a 50/50 chance. Stunning beauty we think you are. Thank you.

  • @gethergroove Aw thank you very much :-) I hope this video helped.

  • WOW. You really brought me back with this! My mother used to thread my hair when I was a natural child...now I'm a natural adult and would like to thread again. I def needed this tutorial. Do you have any style advice for those who'd like to wear threaded hair (maybe 20+) w/o it sticking up the way it traditionally does? Could you do a tutorial on that. Also, you used REGULAR thread? Or the thick kind? Thanks again! And you look lovely!

  • @mobear44 Thank you :-) Yes I do have tutorials on how to wear it out.

I'm going to put some links up on this videos.

I don't use the kind you'd use for regular clothes as it's too thin, I use the one made for the sew-in weaves.

  • Yay tradtional African method my mother taught me this, I was looking for a video to put on my site. Thankyou!

  • @chocolat80 No problem, thank you for letting me know that you got it on your site, could you give me the link?

  • I was about to give into the relaxer state of mind for my daughter until I came across your video. I truely had no idea I could get more length out of her natural hair. Keep up the good work!

  • @cadanbaby Thanks and OMG! It warms my heart to know this video helped a little girl. Thanks for letting me know.

  • wow this is very african, this is how its done back home. well done girl

  • @hyper10shun lol Thank you.

  • Nice video!!! Could you please tell me the name of this song? :-)

  • @Lyrem34 Thanks. The song is called '' Gazelle ''.

  • cool very creative

  • @ganjalova Thanks :-)

  • GREAT tip about coating the thread in oil first. Thanks!

  • @nlovelace No problem :-)

  • i usually band my hair too to stretch it but i use elastics....do you think that there is a difference between using thread and using regular ponytail holders?

  • @NiaSoPurdy The only difference, I think, is that it's easier to really get your ends to stretch too. It's a little harder to get the tip of the hair with ponytail holders .

  • I remember when threading hair used to be an art and many different hairstyles used to be made just with thread. My mom used to thread my hair as a kid the easiest way possible to keep it in good shape. Thanks for sharing and I really like the music

  • @gaelle8t8 No problem, Thank you for watching :-)

  • you are adorable! so very pretty! thank you for sharing

  • @juliet470 Thank you, it's a pleasure :-)

  • I was always wondering how this was done. Thank you!

  • @atomicwhisk ,My pleasure ! :-)

  • I LOVE your videos! And this is such a great way of stretching hair without heat!! It looks much more effective than the flat twists etc that most people tend do do on wet hair. I think I'll definitely try it on my next wash day!!x

ps. were you holding the camera between your teeth when you were filming yourself wrapping the thread around your big toe??!!! Please say yes! - I will love you even more!! ;) haha.xx

  • @HairAndHealing Was I holding the camera between my teeth? lol nah. You are funny.

  • Great video.. Love the make up looks very natural :-)

  • @Maliyah31409 Thank you :-)

  • Luv your hair. Took one look and subbed. We do this in Nigeria to stretch hair too.

  • @enaruvie Aw thank you very much! :-)

  • je n'avais jamais pensé à mettre de l'huile sur le fil! merci pour l'astuce!

  • @Bellebene0804 Pas de probleme :-)

  • cool!

  • @ridagal Thank you !

  • @MissMETE0R okay =)

  • random question are you nigerian? igbo?

  • @Nonye1234 No I'm not nigerian :-)

  • wow! my mom used to do this to my hair and my sisters's hair but much tighter and we used to go to school like that but that was back then. She used to do the rope exactly like that! wooow i thought it was strictly an african thing...great technic!

  • @bearr7 I wish I was from an island, but I'm not, lol :-)

  • @MissMETE0R YOU ARE NOW"

    GRIZZLYKING

  • LOVE IT WHAT DOING

  • that was really nice, I am not natural, I would love to be natural but I am very tender headed, great tutorial thank you for sharing.

  • @KidneyGirl91 Aw it's too bad, we naturals never rip through our hair with a comb because it causes breakage, so it's like we are all tender headed, lol, because we are always finding ways to avoid any roughness, we comb our hair under water and/or when it's full of conditioner so the comb just slips right through, we never get any pain :-)

Thank you for your comment :-)

  • ThIs is how i stretch my hair too!. I am Ghanaian and this style is pervasive.

Ive not seen a tutorial on it ever. good job (: x

  • @ssikmoi88 I've seen some in french, sure there are some in english too

  • I will be trying this technique, so much more better than retwisting every night. How long does that last or do you have to wrap every night. Either way it is a lot faster.

  • @naturallady1 I agree with you it's faster, the hair will shrink back when in contact with humidity but it's always better to keep the hair stretched at night so it won't tangle up weither it's shrunken or not.

  • the end results were beautiful...thanks for sharing,,,i may have to try it.

  • @mrsd6allnatural No problem! :-)

  • Pretty cool!! I can't wait until my hair get that long. :-)

  • @msfashionmyworld Thank you girl, and thanks for your comment :-)

  • Lol! ok u just took me back home with that technique, i do it sometimes too. but i rmbr my hair being threaded up in smaller sections like that and....sigh...i had to go to sch with that on my head, hated that style when i was younger Lol! nice one

  • @brwnsugar1820 LOL !! Girl tell me about it! fortunately it happened to me only once, I told my mom I couldn't do it! I was about 7 If I remember well. Daddy was on my side too! lol
