Thanks. The routes are built directly on the wall using a trackball by professional trackers. We tested an automatic route generation algorithm, too: the routes were thus infinite in number, but less interesting than those tracked by (pro) humans.
im sure there are different levels of difficulty. odds are that the ppl who designed it are more of like scientists than climbers and just did very basic stuff.
yea but like as flip said, its the same thing, why do this when you can just use tape like its always been done lol, although i do like the idea of games for kids.
well i understand that, but part of the fun of rock climbing indoors is setting the routes (i work at a rock climbing gym personally so i do this quite often) does this program allow for the setting of routes or are they all programed in?
nice idea! does it work for feet as well as hands?

So a few questions:
1. How much is it expected to retail for?
2. Can you program in multiple routes?
3. Can it use multiple colors?
4. When and where can you purchase one?
Thank You.

Really interesting use of augmented reality. Are the routes pre-programed or does the computer dynamically build the route for you as you go?

WOW! Amazing idea!! Does it know about the size and type of holds on the wall too?
hamish9900 2 years ago
It adapts to every wall/holds configuration after a short calibration.

nice work guys, climbing can always use this type of forward thinking... keep it up!

how do I get a hold of it.......

There's an infrared sensor and computer vision software: the climber is tracked and path is displayed accordingly.

In addition to what you see in the movie, we entered one hundred paths, ranging from 5a to 8a...

its the same thing in an indoor gym where the holds are color coordinated.
flipzeyez 2 years ago
you can use only some of the holds: it is how every climbing gym works

tape = max 10 routes/boulders per wall
projection = max 100000000 routes/boulders per wall

IIllIIllIl 2 years ago
Yes it does. Via remote control. Quite fast and easy. You can also edit already saved routes.
alevalli 2 years ago
It's a proof of concept.
BHSPitMonkey 2 years ago
IT'S TOO FAST!!!
RabdonFilms 2 years ago
The speed depends on you. As you move on, the route moves on.
alevalli 2 years ago
You can even stay stuck for hours on every single hold.

Very Cool.
