Really interesting use of augmented reality. Are the routes pre-programed or does the computer dynamically build the route for you as you go?

Thanks. The routes are built directly on the wall using a trackball by professional trackers. We tested an automatic route generation algorithm, too: the routes were thus infinite in number, but less interesting than those tracked by (pro) humans.

There's an infrared sensor and computer vision software: the climber is tracked and path is displayed accordingly.

im sure there are different levels of difficulty. odds are that the ppl who designed it are more of like scientists than climbers and just did very basic stuff.

well i understand that, but part of the fun of rock climbing indoors is setting the routes (i work at a rock climbing gym personally so i do this quite often) does this program allow for the setting of routes or are they all programed in?

Yes it does. Via remote control. Quite fast and easy. You can also edit already saved routes.
