Most bands perform their songs the same way at every show based on the studio version, DMB never plays a song the same way more than once and that's what makes them so unique and so incredible
@dmbdispatch14 Having Dispatch play as part of The Caravan for Randall's NY was more than I could have asked for. I get what you are saying as it dibturbed me when I first posted these up here to split them. At least they are here. Somtimes, as Carter would say, the beauty is in the space between. Peace
The first two chords of the chorus, whenever the whole band comes in and blares majestic sounds is so orgasmic that I have to make an emergency run to the pants store after hearing it.
you show me another band in todays generation, who is as good, if not better live - voice wise, instrumental ability and all around perfection - than DMB
As the saying goes "Out with the old and in with the new". In this case it's out with the old (the new bullshit these days they call music) and in with the new (the good ol' DMB)
Gotta say...I am addicted to DMB again after many years of just listening to country! I am originally from Manchester TN (home of Bonnaroo) and I hope to see Dave and Warren many many more times. Wish they had Bonnaroo when I was growing up in Manchester..had to wait til I was 40 did they???
16 minutes playing one truly kick ass song?...That is dedication, talent and genuine passion for what they do. No one plays a gig like DMB.
I've only been to one Dave gig because I live in Ireland and they have only played here twice. I got front row at the DMB gig this year and it was mind blowing. The crowd was small, no one shoved or pushed...everyone just stood and sang along, soaking up the atmosphere and the phenomenal talent. I'm only 17, but I hope I have many more DMB gigs to come.
@teenageindiefan I'd do anything to relive that gig. Bartender was a cracker of an opening. I had hoped they would play #41 and was gutted when they didn't :( but at least we got The Stone!!
@MissesTwishes there ways always gone be stuff they didnt do. like tripping billies and everything. but it was amazin! all along the watchtower was the highlight:D
Nice, my bowl is named the Fiddle or Fiddy cause it's for lefties and the way I use it, it looks like playing a fiddle and bow. Chyeaahh, Boyd! The fact that some people don't like this music answers the mystery of whether any music can be enjoyed by everyone. This was my favorite band at 6 years old and with everything I've learned since then it still is.
The amount of talent that each and every one of these musicians has with his own instrument is amazing. Put them together, and it is breathtaking. This is just amazing.
This is probably the best verzion of Jimi Thing ever performed. I really underestimated Steffan. His Intro solo to Watchtower was amazing at this concert.
I love this song. I recommend the version LIVE AT THE GOLDEN GATE. It ends with that other song "for what is worth" (lord of war) and has some wild jams along
Haha Warren Haynes in the background at 0:35 is hilarious. This is my favorite version of this song without a doubt. Everyone is so in sync with each other!!
i hate when all the preppy people that go to dmb concerts are all like "why are they not playing the original, they keep going off playin this instrumental crap." i get real pissed off and say, "are you fuckin kidding? this is the best part of the concert! the jamming. thats what it's all about! just chill out an smoke a joint! and listen to the jam, otherwise just go listen to their cd's!"
You nailed it. When you started your comment with the phrase "i hate when all the preppy people" that's more or less all you needed to say. . . and I love Dave Matthews' music, don't get me wrong, but that was pretty much the reason why I dropped him like a hot potato. I can't deal with all those cyber-vegan, preppie, hemp wearing, UC-Berkeley- 20 and 30-something fan base of his. They are almost as pathetic as those fucking meth-head hippies who attend Medeski, Martin and Wood shows.
a good acoustic guitar line, some AWESOME bass playing by stefan, perfect background sax and violin lines that aren't very prominent on the album, carter is doing wonderfully, and dave sings the way that dave sings. the breaks into the solos that are beyond excellent.. perfect performance
They make it impossible! I mean, they make so good you get lost and jam out for the whole song. And then you look up and realize you jammed the whole way in your own little world and you didn't get to WATCH the show! THERE"S NO WAY TO WIN!! But I guess I cry about lesser things eh...
Its related to jimi hendrix ive heard, something like dave was messing around with a hendrix song and then he just called it jimi thing. hence the reason why jimi has an i at the end of it i guess.
Dude i love reading comments posted by people like you(even though there are few). People like Carter Beauford(DMB drummer), Tony Royster, and my band director have impacted me in the same way. I am now in love with music just as you are.
