I'm going to make a project work about the way to learn because I'm going to do an exam and this video is very useful because in my project I also explain those things about V A K but I'm Italian and I can't understand all the speech so I wonder If someone is able to give me some help, maybe writing down what he said.. if it's possible to have a sort of subtle in english, thank you :)
@Flakchan That would be great if someone would provide you with translation. I would suggest that you find a book on NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) in Italian. That might help you a lot.
If you would like a copy of Dr. Walsh's eBook on this subject, contact us through our website and we will send you a link for a free download.
@WalshSeminars thank you for the fast reply! The entire work is in english and a translation would be useless for me :( anyway I'll look for the book you suggest and i'm very interested in the copy of Dr. Walsh's eBook! How can I get the link for the free download? you're very kind and sorry for my bad english :)
Always learning something new with your videos. Our education system needs some serious work. Its only catered to specific individuals. I personally believe in home schooling more than anything else.
@36burrows - I know what you mean. I have to bite my tongue when I'm doing workshops for teachers. They do a terrific job using the tools and system that they have been handed.
Thank you for your interest. This concept is contained in the body of knowledge known as Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP. There are numerous books on the subject. We are not here to defend a concept that is already widely accepted. If you would like more information, we suggest you take training in NLP.
Thanks for your request. This information is part of the body of knowledge known as Neurolinguistic Programming. There are dozens of books on this subject. If you’re interested in digging more deeply into this, you can decide by reading the reviews shown on Amazon.
Results of valid, empirical observations of the effects of learning styles on students are clear. Teachers use of learning style information has no effect, or sometimes a harmful effect on learning. Clearly, folks behave unethically when they take peoples time and/or money and dont provide any evidence on whether an investment in learning styles is a just use of scarce school resources.
So Id challenge the person in this video, Can you offer any valid evidence that it actually help kids?
Although most of this clip is about communications and building rapport, Dr. Walsh does touch on learning. He is not advocating any specialized teaching methods, nor is he suggesting any changes in school curricula or organization. He is simply saying that we have many channels through which we take in information. Teachers and trainers can enhance their effectiveness by delivering their material in a variety of ways. To learn more about this subject, we suggest you take NLP training.
I am a kinesthetic learner and yes it is very hard for me to sit still. But I was wondering if there is anything a kinesthetic learner can do to fight those tendencies? If my teacher is giving me a lecture I usually have to put my pencil away because I start to play with it. Or my leg starts to bob up and down so I have to sit cross legged. It would be very helpful if you could give me any advice. -Tim
Excuse me if my suggestions seem basic, but I must cover all the bases. Avoid sugar, caffeine, or anything made from white flour. Stay hydrated by eating ample amounts of fruits and vegetables. Consume minimal protein. Any time you have an opportunity to move outside of the class, do so. Learn active progressive relaxation. You can download Dr. Walshs Taming Tension MP3 from Amazon for 99 cents. Track 2 has the active progressive relaxation. Learn self-hypnosis. I hope this helps you.
Tourettes Turns all of this on it's head. We raise our voices with tics, speak quicly, repeat words & we do not always have lower voices when we learn from sound since tics are often driven by sound. These are all things that may be true of a person with tics. Mozart may have had Tourettes, some sounds drove him crazy, especially as a child, but he also moved impulsively, ran from his piano in performances because he saw a cat & we often learn visually & what we see can trigger tics.
Your experience and perception is valuable information to anyone interested in how people communicate and learn.
The models of multiple intelligences and different learning styles, or any concept for that matter, are always subject to exceptions. It is good for us to be aware of that.
You're very welcome. Glad we could help. Dr. Walsh is always interested in the impact his videos and other materials have. Would you be willing to let us know about your project?

Thanks to this video, I know im Kinesthetic. Which means that i would be good for a job in the trades. Im 15 years old. The thing is, im kind of a mix of all those. Ill write down what i but for learning styles...
"My top three learning styles are Kinesthetic, visual and auditory. I usually remember English plays if I act them out. Im really good with remembering things if I touch, feel, play around with things. Yet again, working with my body would be perfect for a trades job. When I study for an exam, I write all the main points I have learned in the semester. This would make me a visual learner then Im trying to jam memory into my brain.".................
Yes, we are all a mix of the three. You also said, I dont take notes, I listen because I can remember when teachers give me small lessons. This is your auditory showing.
Dr. Walsh highly recommends using Mind Maps. They are both visual and kinesthetic. Since the mind processes mostly in pictures, long-term memory is better encoded when ideas can be graphically represented this way.
I have read unleashing your brilliance great book I have used the techniques. I have just seen a video on you-tube "learning styles don't exist" by Daniel T. Willingham, could you tell me who is right?
Thanks for the comment on my book. I don't see that Dan and I disagree all that much. My focus is more on accommodating kinesthetic learners. They are the disenfranchised ones. I think it is asking too much for a teacher to adapt lesson delivery for each individual student. Just incorporating some movement (a simple thing to do) will embrace those kinesthetic learners who are the ones usually ignored by typical visual & auditory teaching practices.
Yes - they don't exist; this is laughable nonsense. The reliability isn't there. People are "visual" one week and "auditory" the next. We are "visual" when the visual context calls for it. It's much more about context. See, for example, Dembo and Howard (2007) on Learning styles as a "major myth" in education.
We agree with you about context. People act and react differently depending on environment, circumstance, and their correspondents way of communicating. While many people are very adaptive, some are not. Dr. Walsh focuses more on how the latter will never achieve productive rapport because they unwittingly stick to their entrenched communication style. There will always be two sides to this story.
interesting! I just can't figure out how to label those smart blind people. blind people who go to university, pretty much they depend on reading brail. what are blind people? a,v or k? I think blind people depend on the mind mostly.
Kids, like anyone, are a mix of all three. They, like everyone, can be dominant in one area. In my book, I outline ways to magnify and enhance areas that need bolstering. This is a huge area, so I can't go into it in this reply. As far as blind people are concerned, what they lack in visual, they make up with auditory and kinesthetic abilities. Once trained, their kinesthetic skills will replace the functions of their eyes to send information to their brain for processing.
wow, im majorly kinisthetic, but i observe everything also, so i guess im a little bit of visual. but ya, thats why i cant stand school rightnow, i learn sooo much when i am at home by experience, but when im at school, i have to teach myself through my mistakes, it kinda stinks because im always barely passing
what about if you're blind? can you still be visual? I believe a blind person still could be visual. vision is in the mind. you have to use your imagination
i never knew what kind of learner i am cuz i wud say i have alittle of every kind but we took tests at school and it turns out im an auditory learner. yayy lol
Where are these held? I find the mind fascinating and I'd love to come to one of these. Very nice work. I truly enjoy these videos and hearing the tips. I've taken your advice on a few things like waking up and I was very happy, by the sound of all this.

this can pretty much sums up a main problem with the u.s. educational system. mainly, it does not acknowledge the different ways students learn.
this issue is key to communicating with struggling students.
