  • Haha wearing it to have a cleaner image and then smoking too? That's just so contradictory! xD

  • Quick question, how do they actually put them on? Is it simply a knot in the back, or is it something different?

  • Quick question, how do they actually put them on? Is it simply a knot in the back, or is it something different?

  • Thought that fashion statement only existed in Philippines xD

  • How do the Japanese deal with unavoidably sweaty situations, like screwing? No, seriously, I wanna know, someone help me out here......

  • They have all read and taken the advice of the Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

"A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have."

  • I sort of like having sweat rolling down my face and body when I play sports or at my job. Makes me feel like I've done something. Maybe it's a guy thing? If it came to being in public than I would like to NOT have sweat all over me.

  • i never noticed that while i was there. maybe bc it was after summer

  • i aint seen a fat japanesse person in ur vids yet

  • @mtsipana2 thats why Japan has the most long life expectancy worldwide ^^

  • I lived in japan during the summer.... and i must say those towels save lives. Especially in Japanese high school because there is no AC. Good thing i caught onto the "Towel Fashion" or else id be having sweat stains all over. Would be very embarrassing. Anywhooo we like to be clean don't we? :D lol

    Towels <3

  • When I am in America I drive my car everywhere and every building blasts the air conditioning at full speed, so I don't need a towel. But in Japan it is hot, I walk everywhere, and we don't use air conditioning as much. Well, that is my reasoning for carrying a towel with me.

  • i thought they're bandits or something lol

  • Wow now Japan makes Towelie happy!! Dont forget bring a Towel! You wanna get high??

  • @Mmajta LoL... =)

  • Awesome. TOWEL FASHION!!!!!

  • I've seen kids here in America wear towels on their heads like wigs when they go to the park, but I think it's more like "street" fashion than any really useful purpose.

  • Is around their neck like a scarf...pause....LOL , i just thought that was funny, 0:38

  • sounds like somthin from hitch hikers guide to the galexy

  • japanese are well mannered and polite??

dude with chicks littered his ciggarte at 1:12;((

  • at least it is some kind of beneficial fashion! :P

  • ''Shows that you're clean and conscious'', and they're smoking like hell :D

    The girl one's cute :3

  • Only in Japan, fight sweat and look good at the same time.

  • "so get urself a towel" You are funny man. Can you post more videos about food. Their food are CrAzy AwEsOMe. :)

  • @thandieu222001

There is a food play list and more coming :-)

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

    one okonomiyaki please!

  • Towelie says don't forget to bring a towel : )

  • i want to live in Japanese bcoz i want to meet Metalucifer band haha

  • the towel fashion existed since before Edo/Samurai era, wore by construction workers, craftsman, etc, who sweats a lot. Those are called Hachimaki, or Tenugui, and are piece of nylon that is similar to the towel. Well, back in late 80s to 90s, young construction workers wear towel like that(and they are usually badass), so... it may became fashion in recent years? but I feel like I've seen the towel fashion since the day I was born.

  • @bluebearbank

We need you answering questions on our website forum.. off you go!!!!

  • I said "nylon," but haha, I don't know why I said, probably cuz I just bought a nylon jacket. I meant "a piece of cloth." You know what I meant. I love your vids, please keep posting :)

  • Don't forget to bring a Towel!! aka its from South Park!

  • @girlaregood

    Towelie ^_^

    Love Southpark!

  • towel!

  • " So go get yourself a towel." Is it just me or does that sound like a sexual innuendo?

  • @xLindsey777MCRx

2,600 views so far and you are the first person to suggest that.. so looks like it was only you :-D

  • I will tell you something funny:

I see often polish girls wearing shirts with sign saying "SWEAT" i think they are so lame in eng. that dont see difference in swEEt and swEAt.

    That's pity...

  • Hitchhikers guide will never steer you wrong. Never go anywhere without a towel.

  • Comment removed

  • *nod*

    =D

  • Japanese "doo rag"! XD

  • Good one :-D

  • The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a few things to say on the subject of towels.

    A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours;

  • you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to- hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a bush, but very ravenous);

  • you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc.,

  • etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

  • Nice :-D

  • il put a towel around my neck to be hygienic but IL smoke and get lung cancer... ok then

  • I can fully appreciate the towel having gone to Comiket this year, being in a heaving queue (consisting of thousands of people) for two hours in the middle of the baking Japanese summer. I'm surprised you actually haven't made a video about fans and the general heat-battling required for the rather brutally hot summers! (At least, brutal for me, being British and coming from a nice cold country!) The fan was the most essential item I bought while in Japan!

  • lol go get your self a towl nice the towl industry is booming in japan :D .greetzzz from holland

  • So you should make videos showing the "truth" :-D

I wont delete your comment - happy to let you embarrass yourself. :-)

  • That looks like a nice park.

  • that guy has one... and that one... and two?

    lol

  • Yeah!

    Two was a classic!

That is rarer than one :-D

  • This makes me think of the movie "Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy!" Don't forget your towel!

    watch?v=MbGNcoB2Y4I

  • You look so cute lol

  • No, just old a wrinkly :-D

  • lmao!

i wouldnt dare wear a towel fashion in america xD

  • (to me) all the lads look abit too fashionable, looks like there pushing into the gay area

  • Yeah, it looks like that from the outside..

but it is just the fashion..

and Japanese girls love them when they dress like that.

There is no homophobia in Japan so dudes dont worry about being called "gay".

  • You also gotta consider that it gets really humid in the summers of Japan. (^o^)v

  • it's not fashion ......

  • Oxford Dictionary:

fashion • noun 1 a popular trend, especially in dress.

    Turns out it is :-)

  • Definition of fashion: "characteristic or habitual practice"

  • youve probabley been asked this before but where abouts in japan are you?

  • Many times...

and I always say this channel is about Japan.. not about me :-)

    Aichiken :-)

  • I think it looks very cool for the boys on the head, I like it (to see it, not to wear it)

  • What happens when the are working hard and they start sweating at a gym or something? Is that considered faux pas?

  • They get a bigger towel :-D

  • lol! O_o; i'll stick with deodorant.

  • this towel thing ,OMG...5*****

  • Thanks for the 5 , as always!!

  • That is too funny!

  • lol thats pretty weird. :P

  • Seems everyone wears the towel even if they don't do manual labour.

  • Yes!

Even just going to the shop :-D

  • "What's he doing sitting in his car taking pictures of us?"

  • "Maybe he is making videos for youtube"

  • All trends are weird.

  • Love the pink towel on the girl :P I think anything can become a trend in Japan.

  • Hahahha I loved this video thank you so much :)!!!

  • You are welcome!

  • speechless

  • ┌─┐ do you

    ┴─┴ feel

    ಠ_ರೃ fancy?

  • Towlie would be proud of Japan.

  • Funny :-D

    Southpark rocks!

  • hahaha towels as a fashion accessory...who would of thought!

  • I keep getting more and more confused about the weather in your videos. Sometimes you report about christmas and show people in t-shirt's. Then again I see people with warm or average-temperatured clothing, and you show beach girls in the next second.

So whats the weather like there right now? Do they have the same seasons like Europe for example? Cold winters and hot summers?

  • The weather for Japan is just like it is like in England, and the US. They have cold winters, depending where in Japan you live, and mild to hot summers, again depending where you live. So right now it would be cold over there.

  • Yeah, sorry...

    It is cold now!

I made that video a few weeks ago and forgot to post it!!

  • Ahaaaa! ^^ Thank you.

  • japan would hate me. i sweat too much.

  • Okay. That park is awesome. I want to meet that girl in the white bikini so bad that it is incredible.

  • Yeah, sweat is a pain to deal with when it's coming out like bullets. There's really only 1 situation where I don't mind sweat though. I'll leave that to one's imagination! ^_^

  • >:D

  • cute boys lol

  • I give 5 *s, like that cute towel neatly arranged with a rubber band XD

    ~Kat

  • Thanks ^_^

  • I'd wear one with cute kitties on them :) lol

    Keep up the awesome vids

  • Thanks for your support!

  • I carry a small towel everywhere I go, it's a microfiber towel and it is useful for everything...cleaning computer, my glasses, and even sweat. Remember 'Hitchikers guide to the galaxy', never go anywhere without your towel

  • Heck, yes. Thumbs up for not forgetting your towel.

  • lol

  • Yeah.. I always have mine now...

    I don't wear it though..

  • i pretty much didn't hear anything you said from 1:11 - 1:31 .

  • wtf lol

  • its fucking cold to go out with a towel around my neck

  • Dont forget to bring a towel!

  • I do the same thing in summer...

  • .... Towel Fight anyone... Go around stinging buts... :O

  • its not a trend. we just use a towel instead of a tenugui these days and thats all. tenugui is a traditional long shape handkerchief.

  • It is not a trend?

A trend is if lots of people do the same thing..

I thought lots of people did this thing...

    Oh, well !!

  • Dealing with sweat is a Japanese trend I can get on board with, I hate sweat my self.

  • I wear one all the time like a cape, maybe that's why people stare at me...

I'll make it a new trend, who needs to lay out a towel when you already have one on your back!

  • A cape!!

    Good one!!

    :-D

  • how come most japanese ppl are skinny? is there like no junk food in japan?

  • how come most americans ppl are fat? is there junk food everywhere in us?

  • come now. are you seriously gonna ask that?

  • i mean, eating only sushi cant be that good for you right?

  • you really have no clue, do you? sushi isn't the only thing eaten in japan. do some studying, watch japanchannel's videos, you'll see there's a lot of things you didn't know about japan.

  • no i know that but isnt one of the main foods in japan, sushi, and rice ect?

  • rice, yes. rice is a staple. sushi is popular, but i don't know that i'd say it's a "main food" there. but that's just me.

  • lol im just stupid for asking a question like that.. srry

  • no worries. :)

  • pretty soon im going to start seeing people in the U.S. wearing towels everywhere lol

  • That is an old fashion of the 90's here in the U.S...you still see guys out there wearing towels out there

  • So why Japanese people hate being sweaty so much ??

  • Because being clean and fresh is important to them.

  • Towel xD bwahahahahahahahaha this sure made my day xD It's hilarious xD

  • I suppose it would be practical in a downpour../

  • OMGGGGGGG!!!!! Hot guys in the park!! >:O

  • I didn't notice :-)

  • I'd laugh at someone if I saw them with a towel on :D

  • They don't care what sweaty towel-less foreigners think!!

    :-D

  • I can hide my sweat. :P

  • kind of like Hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy?

  • kind of :-D

  • I really do love your vids. You make a lot of people smile.

  • Thanks!

    Please spread the word !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • are these videos new or old?

  • I shot it a few weeks ago and forgot to post it...

  • so it is summer there?

  • Japan is in the northern hemisphere, you do the math

  • it took me 2min to find out whats a "northern hemisphere" on Google translate and i think it is more geography then math and we had geography only about our country

  • "you do the math" is just a saying... And I didnt learn that in geography, i used my own brain to figure that one out lol

  • LOL

  • Towel, great idea. But the way the weather is here now I could use it more like a scarf ;-)

  • Yeah, I actually shot this a few weeks ago before it turned chilly :-)

  • hmm. my japanese gf loves when i sweat all over her. lol... i'm just saying ^^,

  • like a scarf looks better

  • I agree ;-)

In this play list we have one called "summer scarf".. check it out :-)

  • most of our fashion is driven by practical uses. cargo pants, for example, were orrigionally made for the army to store equiptment/ammunition. capris were made for floods.

  • True.. I love my cargo pants :-)

I have got pretty used to a towel in summer too!

  • Wouldnt a bandana or something be cooler? More fashionable, less inclined to soak up sweat though lol

  • Indeed....

    :-)

  • Oh lordy lord...

  • well said :-)
