  • @Askerban Well, you're an intellectual... why don't you just come here? With that said, our PM is a bleeding moron, in this nation, thanks to him, child molestation is less severe a crime then marujana possession. Our system saved the economy. Anyway, cheers.

  • My favourite song!

  • this was recorded before the Olympics 2004?

  • @flossock: The flag is not important enough to me to leave, the people are great and so I stay ^^. I do not like the flag as much as some people do simply because it doesn't really represent anything. The flag is designed to not create any exclusivity, but through that Canada has a identity problem. There is no Canadian nation as there is a German, British or French, part of that is to blame on the flag. The Benedict Arnold is a bit much, it is not as tho Cnd is in a war for independence!

  • @milnerjon You must admit, at least we have an emblem on our flag. Look at europe, it's just stripes everywhere.

  • One of the things that made me leave Canada was this flag :/ ...

    Good video though

  • @flosssock thats the best flag i have ever seen...

  • I much prefer the red ensign...

  • That's because you hate seeing Canada exist as a seperate nation from its mother country.

So Benedict Arnold, how can I help you

  • No, I like the fact that Canada has grown up and no longer holds her mothers hand.

But I don't like it how her identity has been washed like that.

  • @flosssock I concur, this flag is oblivious to the history and heritage of Canada. It's far too simplistic looking as well.

  • @TheCommunard Must the Union Jack adorn the American flag as well? Simply because we have our own modern identity doesn't mean we ignore our heritage.

  • @KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva I agree with you on the modernity aspect. As I no longer hold that Canadian heritage is something we need to retain, but instead to critique. The argument about the American Flag however, is invalid, they are independent.

I never really got used to the Canadian flag, that's all.

  • @TheCommunard Well, if we were to change our flag back now that we're independent, wouldn't that be the same thing? The Americans aren't exactly as anti-British as they once were. And Traditional American culture is just as tied to Britain as ours.

Hell, I think they're loving the fact that Britain and the Commonwealth is becoming more and more Americanized.

  • @KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva

Canada is not 'independent.' But I would support its independence.

  • @TheCommunard We're not DEPENDANT on Britain for governance or leadership. If the Governor General or the Queen were to hamper our sovereignty nowadays, chances are we'd abolish the Governor General position, or sever its ties to the Crown.

By independant I meant that we are a Nation, not a Dominion or Colony.

  • @KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva The fact that you 'would' abolish the crown, does not mean that you 'do not' recognize the crown.

Although the Canada Act does not refer to Canada as the Dominion of Canada, there is nothing in any constitutional documentation which declares it invalid to call Canada a Dominion.

  • @TheCommunard But the fact that we have self-direction means that we are independent of Britain. We have been since 1982.

  • @KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva Canada is dependant upon the same crown which England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are dependant upon. An independent Canada would be able to appoint it's own governor general, or at least elect a president.

  • @TheCommunard Our Prime Minister does appoint our Governor General, the Queen just swears them in as a formality. It used to be more like what you think, but now it's just a case of tradition. And our Prime Minister is elected.

Really, the only time the Governor General (and thus, the Queen) would get involved is if the PM were to do something MONUMENTALLY stupid, and the Governor General would then block the Bill. Questioning Canadian Independence is really just semantics.

  • @KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva

I am speaking in terms of official policy, as opposed to suggestion.

For example, Her Majesty must appoint the Governor General, but the Prime Minister may suggest someone to Her Majesty.

Another example is that only the Governor General may set the agenda for Parliament, and it is the duty of the members thereof to complete that agenda, and then await further instruction from the Governor General.

ONLY the Governor General may prorogue, but the PM may suggest to.

  • @TheCommunard

I know, but in practice the Queen barely has infinitesimal power, as does the Governor General.

All of the policy-making capacities of the office are really performed by the Prime Minister, and signed/ratified by the figurehead.

It WOULD be better with an elected figurehead and no ties to the Monarchy, but that isn't to say that the Queen still has sway. I believe this is a similar case to Scotland, but Scotland is still slightly more dependant.

  • @TheCommunard We do appoint our own governor general through the governor general consultation committee picks the who they want to appoint and brings this to the PM who then will make the recommendation to HM the queen of CANADA. In this case she represents ONLY Canada and not England and her other realms. Really its called research before running your mouth off.

  • @mcaddicts I never said England has any role in the matter. I said that Canada is dependent upon the same crown as many other nations.

Really, it's called reading before running your mouth off.

  • I would go live in Canada just for it ^^

  • I would go back for the red ensign..

  • @flosssock Wait, you left the greatest nation on Earth over a flag? Jesus Christ, we didn't put a swastika on it!

  • @canuckleful (*one of the greatest) And it was a contributing factor yes. Haha, no we didn't, but it represents Canada much less than its predecessor...

  • @flosssock Ok, agreed on that note.
