Beryllium is extremely toxic when inhaled in its pure state...

...but then again so is chlorine gas and yet I suspect that doesnt' stop you eating foods with salt in them.

So if you want some Alexandrite, don't worry about a thing.

i think they are blood thinners but i dont understand.

Nitroglycerin is explosive in its pure state. In a (very) diluted form, the same substance causes blood vessels to expand which reduces stress on the heart.
