I managed to book a 2 1/2-star hotel in Orlando for 8 nights next spring for only $309!!! I booked directly with the hotel by phone. Considering their website's rate is $79/night, the $309 total is pretty good. Do it that way instead.

If you can, try take your vacation out of season.

Avoid places where there is a convention. The more people want a room, the more expensive it will be, Plus service will be a lot crappier and rude when there are more people to take care of.

Avoid eating at the hotel, instead dine out. Hotel restaurants are usually about twice as expensive as comparative restaurants. Room service about 4 times.

Check prices, sometimes a better hotel is cheaper.

Good advice. Also - Many places you can rent an apartment instead of a hotel room. Do a search for apartment and your destination. (remember to check on a map how sentral the ap. is.) Often they are cheaper than hotel rooms, especialy if you are traveling with someone.

You end up with more space, more freedom and kinda live lice a local.

@Duboisi yea but you would have to clean the apartment or wonder if its in good shape when you get there. Apartment rentals are good if you are traveling with family. When i go on vacation I don't want to worry about cleaning up just relaxing and having fun are my concerns... my tip for finding a cheap hotel is stay during the week instead of the weekend the rates are cheaper...

I work in a Ramada at the front desk...!! The best option is always to call the hotel and reserve trough them!! Cause with the internet booking if ther's any mistake with the reservation; date, room type..etc the hotel is not responsible for that mistake and in most case, espacially in high season will not be able to correct the internet booking mistake. So my advise is book your room directly by calling at the hotel and you will get what you whant, and the best rate as well.!!!
