  • Hotel California, anyone?

  • I saw these guys yesterday on Warped, great fucking show!

  • @fr1endofcharles tell sum1 hoo kares

  • I'm dumber than you, i've read the bible.

  • @semaj345 Couldn't agree more

  • chomsky has speaks some knowledge and does so from a socialistic perspective which is awsome. i hear hes an arrogant prick in real life tho

  • GREAT SONG! Enjoy the feeling a songs give you personally. fuck everything else PERIOD!

  • Against me puts on one hell of a show, good people too if you ever get a chance to meet them. Rock out for Petaluma!

  • against me is one of the best performing bands ive seen so far.

  • Stone Pony! Best place to see a show (where this is filmed)

  • Anybody know other songs with this same kind of "angsty" or "angry" vibe?

  • @greenmonsterpuppies Scream It Till You're Coughing Up Blood

  • This song makes me want to smash things.

  • Unnappreciative bastardrous materialistic everyone.

  • I saw them perform this a few weeks back. And surprisingly, they still kicked ass

  • It's too bad this band took a shit.

  • @cuntrytrash everyone takes a shit every now and then. LEAVE THEM ALONE

  • Story telling is what a lot of good music is about. As is political influence. However historically you see a lot of political bands run out of politics to discuss in more prosperous times and try to become a good story telling band and fail miserably. People should be happy at the dynamic that this band possesses and that they are able to shift their sound and still be good at what they do.

  • @discountlaundry I agree with you totally! against me are so, what's the word...dynamic? That's exactly what good musicians, nay, good artists, should be!

  • People are pretentious douchebags. Sometimes something achieves widespread success because it is actually good and Against Me is a strong argument for that. These are the same people who stop liking them just because they end up on a major label and are able to make some money doing what they do. Tom Gabel has a side project and is still very active with his music. Just because some of their songs have chosen to tell stories rather than be political doesn't mean they sold out.

  • Fight Club the song...Right on. I love the depth of this song, its how life is. Everyday. Whether he is talking about his, or ours, its life. Wishing for a breaking point. BRING ON THE ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE!

  • So I just saw these guys perform at my college, and at the part where he says, "I hate this stupid fucking drum beat," the drummer flipped him off. I lol'd.

These guys were pretty awesome live, and I only know a few of their songs! I think they have a new fan =)

  • Why would anyone call AM! sellouts? This is what happens to good bands, they start to make money. They start to polish and hone their sound. The more people that listen to this the better. Then maybe we'd not have so much Justin Beiber and that kinda B-S.

  • Comment removed

  • @ignatiusreilly1994 the reason they sold out is because they preached about how major labels are the devil and then they signed to one. losing ones beliefs in the process of gaining fame. textbook.

  • @TheDannyxxdanger Hell Pink Floyd preached against major labels. Skynryd had songs about their label. Lots of bands do it. Sometimes they run outta crap to sing about. I'd say had they not signed to sire records, then there'd be thousands (including me) that would have never heard of them or their indie stuff. Just because they're a punk band, doesn't mean they didn't want to be famous rock stars when they were kids. They'll never get famous on some 2nd rate record label.

  • just saw them live last night! fucking awesome!

  • UP THE PUNX!!!

  • you realize you wrote balled instead of ballad in the title... hah, great song. thanks for uploading

  • @jbywater the song's full name is Turn Those Clapping Hands into Angry Balled Fists.

  • @caitlyneFUCK

it doesn't let you put that many letters for the title

  • @hbarack i know. i was explaining to that person that it's supposed to be balled not ballad.

  • @jbywater huh??? why the hell would it be ballad??? haha

  • I honestly hate the term "selling out" for bands. People love bands in their earlier years for the same reason a person would love them at ANY point in their run. Honest feelings bleeding through their music. People say Against Me! sold out or used to be decent or what the fuck ever because they don't have the same feeling they used to. And naturally so as with success comes a different out look on themselves. It's so contradicting. It's liking a band but never wanting them to advance. :\

  • @Bonziibomb No. It's because they toured for capitalist pigs at mountain dew.

  • @Bonziibomb Hell yeah!

  • I think he's singing about how everyone keeps there feelings inside, acts like everythings alright, and does the same damn thing everyday.

  • fuckin a

    romantic dirty grungy thrashing climaxx..

  • what time is it when the refridgerators empty?

  • @rubberguarder it's time, it's time, it's time, it's time to go to the store

  • @rubberguarder time to go to the store!

  • Wake up, get dressed, go to school, prepare for the future, get a job, wake up, get dressed, save for old age, have kids, wake up, get dressed, die.

  • @xmoodudex63 Is there anything else?

  • analyzing a song is analyzing yourself, punk finds you and that is what you are, if you go searching for it you might as well go to hot topic and buy an anarchy patch, fucking idiots, and against me USED to be a descent band, and how does something stay internal when its put through external source, the meaning is-hey stupid ass keep it in country, and its all hypocritical, go buy a ...... analyzing the american culture

  • Very good song! thumbs up

  • the ending is so badass

  • Everything is gonna be aaaaallright!

That sentence fucking rips your hart appart.

  • He's talking about himself being a hypocrite. All you kids that bitch about him being a sell out, this is him acknowledging it. "Turn Those Clapping Hands Into Angry Balled Fists"; this is addressed to us man. :(

  • @samisaberle no it isn't.

  • what album is this from?

  • god damn. i love this

  • god damn. i love this

  • this song is awesome but I wouldn't ever show anyone the video along with it...shots of the tour don't really go along with the lyrics and his expression doesn't go very well with the intensity of the song. Better to just close your eyes and listen to this song.

  • We miss you, Against Me! x

  • youtube recomendations is great :D

  • @colinjordan44 not even a little bit

  • great fucking song. Give me convenience or give me death.

  • i hate being that fan that wants to make sex with band. well no i dont really hate that.

  • learned about this band in 7th grade or so from the radio...the songs they make that dont get played on the radio are soooo much better

  • This song explains so much that is wrong with our overly consumerist/material society. "If something doesn't break I'm gonna go, go fuckin' insane"....I feel like this so often haha.

  • LOVE this song :)

  • giz tactic

  • I just recently came across this band by way of an Interfriend and I likes, I likes a lot. The internet is a wonderous thing.

  • best song ever

  • @TuckMeIn damn right

  • yeah...get your mind right lol

  • ugh, people! really?! The beauty about music and lyrics is that it all has a different and special meaning to every individual that listens to it. When you hear the lyrics && you take something different from it, && learn and grow. Jesus christ, and you talk about sheep.

  • The same message in the song applies to the message in fight club when he is describing all of his furniture and stuff. Its all meaningless if everyone is the same.

  • does tom have guages here?

  • It's hilarious to see all your fuck nuts debating and bitching over the meaning of the lyrics. Seriously, take a step back and laugh at yourselves.

"I'm smarter than you, i've read chomsky". Dicks.

  • mos def...........

  • @EnjoiEngMySelf mos def? really?? go back tp 1992 where you came from.

  • @RyanLaquer lol good call. but i would like to say quick, that i think its about the cliche acts and surroundings of people... awesome fucking song regardless

  • this song is fuckin great.. i love this band

  • Well, I think you guys don't get the point of this song. What I get from it is we're all a bunch of sheep. We all follow this pattern of life and deal with it just because we think we have to. I think he's trying to say that we need to break out of this pattern and live life the way we want to. There's no individuality in the world because we're becoming more and more controlled by authority. That's what I get from this song.

  • i concur totally kid. and i say quite saying baaah

  • don't know the band well but i know he made the song baby i'm an anarchist witch is telling me he is one witch is why i think most people aren't understanding what it means impost and Rob Red i would say are pretty close i don't feel like going through it though lol

  • In my opinion he's talking about modernity, monotony, and the search for meaning in life where we find ourselves so nicely pampered -- to death. I also think the criticisms he describes are a self-sketch. They seem intentionally directed inward -- not so much outward at all. In a sense, it's "fight club -- the song."

  • This seems like the best representation of the song to me. I thought at first it was talking about our dependency on third world industry (Pillows from Singapore, coffee flown in on aeroplanes), but as the song progresses it seems to be speaking more to the mundane part of society

  • @RobRedbeard23 You sir are genius

  • @RobRedbeard23 Is Fight Club the only movie you've ever seen that portrays an internal struggle? I can think of better and closer examples of inner turmoil in book ans film.....

  • @drugsarebad90 No, it's not the only such movie I've seen but why is that important? I think it is definitely a reference that the largest number of the people would recognize and so I used it for that reason. However, rather than criticize, why don't you just offer your opinion of relevant examples. I can't learn anything from you if you just talk about me. I haven't read everything, so I'd love to see your recommendations.

  • @RobRedbeard23 "In my opinion"....good call brother..

  • While most humans live their lives around mundane and trivial actions/thoughts this song speaks out to those who think on a different way about what really matters in the world.

  • I'm confused about the "and you walk in leather shoes, pants of denim, a black cotton sweatshirt" part.. as well as many of the other points in the song. I'm sure he uses leather, denim, and cotton products, possibly particle-board as well (that's mentioned in there), and he talks about sweeping the floor when its dirty, doing the dishes when the sink's full, and going to the store when the refrigerator's empty. I'm sure he does all this too, it's normal. So what's he talking about in the song?

  • sweeping the floor when it's dirty, doing the dishes when the sink's full and going to the store when the fridge is empty... what could that mean other than what's on the surface?

  • I dunno.. that's why I asked. =P

I knew it was probably a metaphor for something but I can't figure it out.

  • I figure it means that when there's something that needs taking care of to do it. Apply it to yourself emotionally perhaps. If there's something bugging you don't bottle it up and/or ignore it. Confront it and deal with it.

Shit needs to get done and someone needs to do it sort of thing

  • @AnthonyOmPLHDreads I interpret it as how we fill our lives with these details and distractions as a kind of escape.

You can live your whole life, just stay busy enough and you may never have to come to the realisation that you are wasting away in a 9 to 5. Live, consume, Die.

  • @splap he is talking about us all conforming to social norms and not challenging them.

  • @CodyAllenmusic yeah you got it

  • @splap its the shit you have to go through everyday if you cant find greater meaning in such simplicity maybe you should just not listen to music with words.

  • @AnthonyOmPLHDreads dude life. wat people do wats the basic steps of life. its meant to be shallow on the surface but this song has meaning.

  • The best song I've heard in awhile. I love against me! enuff said

  • I hate these songs I hate the words That the singer is singin' to me I hate this melody I hate this stupid fucking drum beat But I'm not gonna tell anyone What I'm really thinking about Keep the conversations on the surface Just keep on smiling Just keep on saying Everything's gonna be alright
  • KILL THE BANKERS. EAT THE RICH.

  • @ohshiiittt that's the easy stuff. then we'd have the internal enemy.. and shit that's a much harder battle

  • @MrSirSpikeALot THIS

  • @ohshiiittt Then who is going to make the computers you are obviously fond of using? Some collective of hippies?

  • My brain is more fried eggs style

  • i sleep on pillows made in bangladesh, smoke doobies til my brain is scrambled eggs

  • dont go huffin euro dong. they got us beat on healthcare, and thats about it, same as us except less powaaa!!

    ROCK OUT

  • i'm pretty amazed that in a lot of against me videos there are actual serious discussion about politics and society...it just shows that music can really change the way people think and see the world

  • Thats why im a Canadian fuckers

  • Anyone else notice that Kanye bit the melody from this song on "Two Words," from "The College Dropout"?

  • hummmm... what i was thinkin' is that this song sounds me like larrikin love

  • first song i heard from them and the reason i started loving them :)

  • people need to remember that the declaration of independence gives the people the right to tear down government and build it back up from scratch when government no longer represents their interests. remember your roots. this country was built on rebellion.

  • Indeed, this is the area where I think the European countries have right. Unlike in the Americas, the Europeans stand up for what they believe and the government is afraid of their people. While in America, it's the people being in fear of the government. It should be the opposite, we're living in our respective countries and we, the people, should be governing what goes on politically.

  • Bullshit the European people are the same sheeps like the us people. The EU is the most anti democratic organisation ever, but noone seems to care.

  • this is probably the most intelligent thing that has been said on youtube.

  • Oh, wow, thanks. To be brutally honest it isn't too hard to do.

And Kaybeecee, I don't know what you're smoking, but countries in Europe, especially France and that nearby area, protest a lot of stuff they don't like. They aren't sheep if they stand up for what they think is right and they are definitely not sheep of the govenment if they government is scared of the population. They are democratic, a lot more democratic than most countries.

  • Yeah thats why everyone is protesting that we now have a BRITISH (ANTI EU COUNTRY#1) WARMONGER foreign minister and a President of the European Council who is a muppet. No EU citizen ever elected one of these 2, where is your democracy? And where are your french people protesting about it? Catherine Ashton is even a baroness! 3,7% raise for EU functionarys, where are your french freedom fighters?

The EU is trash get over it.

  • Yes the french stand up for what they believe but they sit down when a firm breeze comes.

  • The first time I saw against me was several years ago in a punk-house basement in Buffalo, NY. Food not bombs was there making soup for everyone. Against me was amazing, that expereince can never be replicated. I don't listen to anything after this album, although I still respect against me. They have definately changed though, they used to be very anti-encore (hence the whole point of the album reinventing axel rose), but the last time I saw them they did one for the first time. F

  • Comment removed

  • but they could've sold out and still played good music. Go ahead, sell out, just don't start playing crappy music.

  • No your retarded

  • This isn't really that bad? People make such a big deal of nothing sometimes, wankers.

  • Comment removed

  • what

  • Eternal Cowboy was their last decent album. Everything after that is just not up to par. Tom lost his way, not to mention his passion.

  • searching for a former clarity was definatley up to speed. their major downfall was the major label switch and that bullshit poducer, butch vig

  • idunno, it has a few good songs, but generally i would say it's been downhill since after reinventing axl rose. personally my fav will always be Vivida Vis!, but i'm a diehard anarcho-folkpunk, so that's just an issue of taste.

  • Ok i'll just say that currently democrats are trying to put the government in charge of everything. more government isnt anarchy is it now? not that republicans are anarchist but liberals definatley arent

  • anarchy has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. political views are 2 dimensional, not a single line. you can be more of an anarchistic liberal or conservative. or your views could be that the government should have more control.

I am ever so slightly liberal (pretty much moderate), but quite anarchistic.

  • i must say i agree

  • shouldnt an anarchist prefer democrat to republican? i mean republicans are supposedly for the people, like george bush and democrats are technically of the people, i would say democrats are more liberal and have more anarchist "values" and beliefs most republicans are assholes basically

  • you guys should all hear tom back that obama asshole.

it was my understanding that those of us who identify as anarchists cannot support the political process...much less a DEMOCRAT.

break your against me albums. its all about big government now.

  • Or, maybe Against me just grew up! Face it, anarchy would be a great idea if everybody lived in a utopian society, and all thought the same. But, we don't! So, it ain't gonna work, boyos. Human beings need some sort of structure and authoritarian control, or the entire world would be in chaos.

But of course, authority can only go so far, so it's our job in this dying democracy, to let the politicans know, that we value our fucking freedom!, before the majority vote turns into fascism.

  • i prefer the live version. it sounds like he has a little more grit in his voice.

  • Damn I love Tom Gabel.

Really, I love all of Against Me!

  • smash the state !:D

  • anyone know the solo for this on guitar? i can play the whole song but when the end comes, i get lost. idk if its random improvising every time or what but id like to have something to mess around with... a few scales that go along with the ending... thanks

  • its on the a string and i think the frets are 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 and then idk aha, just improvise

  • its so good it makes me want to swear!

    fuck! see.

    good!!!

  • sublime!!!!!!!!!

  • tom your so hot

  • Live version is better.

  • the funny thing is tom sounds the same live and on record. i guess that means he screams as hard during both and hes good at it lol. no computer assistance needed for his crazy awesome voice

  • nice, angry video.

  • I seriously want to hang out with these guys. They seem like they'd be so fucking cool and down to earth.

  • But would they hang with you?
