You make a very good point brigid....I´ve always thought the same thing. Sometimes..just certain "spots" in the melody and or words of a song make all the difference....they take you back to the same emotions.....it´s a turn off when singers change things around. Christopher does a good job here.
I have a sister named Laura and she passed away almost 25 years ago. This first time I ever heard this beautiful song was on the radio on her birthday. That was the only time I have heard it on the radio. Miss you sister!!
Laura Kathleen Newberry, 39, entered into eternal rest on December 11, 2011 after a brief but bravely fought illness. She is the cherished mother of Christopher Jordan (CJ) Baillie, friend and soul mate of Daniel Giddings,
i never was a fan of christopher cross. but now that i see/hear this, it is amazing how talent has dropped off the face of the earth. this guy sings with an amazing voice...live...with none of that studio help. amazing. i think i am getting softer in my criticism of 80s music in my old age. this guy was just outstanding.
@cesar1963able Agree with you totally....true talent and more than that....genuine and sincere singing.....sincerity in art expression has, as you say...dropped off the face of the earth.
This song reminds me of my friend David, who died from an accidental drug overdose three years ago.He would want us to laugh and not cry.He brought me many smiles and laughs and I will always love him!
This song was used by GENERAL HOSPITAL when Genie Francis was Laura -- missing -- and Luke and Laura was the highest viewed soap opera love story -- this song became evey more popular b/c of the Luke/Laura romance saga.
His song "Sailing" won a several grammies when it came out in '83 i guess. It got best song, best writing and best vocals. Sailing was a beautiful song. He had a way of putting you at ease.
@gtrjunkie He is known as a great guitarist though, he spent a lot of time in the studio with Eric Johnson down in Texas. He would have been a big hit if he had fit the mold of a rock star. he had just a beautiful voice.
I am only guessing here but this must have been during when Chris was touring to support his 3rd album, Every turn of the world, which was released in November 1985.
@thbsooner AGREE!!! thats what im talkin bout.... we need a music revival....nothing like the 70s 80s....real people with real talent making real gooood music...
Cross wrote "Think of Laura" to mourn the death of Denison University college student Laura Carter who was killed tragically when she was struck by a stray bullet fired over a block away, during an altercation between four men.
A song like this one makes you stop, close your eyes and think about beautiful things, the greatest is love....Although it's a bit sad but listen well and you will know what I mean.
message 2 all singers, in concerts sing ur songs the way they were loved by people before, dont change tunes, lyrics etc. people are there to listen to orig music not a revival ok.
