  • Hmmm, not sure whether or not i like the mesa road king or dual rectifier better....... dual rec has a better thrash tone but this has better death metal tone.......i know the road kingis based of a dual rectifier, or is that in correct

  • Is this Road King stock, or are there any mods done to it?

  • Let me put it in very simple words... I now have the Roadking. What a raging fucking beast. I don't think i'll ever need another head, literally. Maybe just a 6505+ for the higher end distortion, but the Roadking has all the girth and growl ever conceived. Thank you for the reviews and the help as always, came in very handy. Keep it coming! \m/

  • Sounds AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! The best definitely! Mesa Boogie Road King! Although it's a bit expensive :-(

  • What did you use for the lead settings?

  • Love the EL-43 comment...nice!

  • Yeah, so in about a year and four months my wife is buying me one of these for my college graduation present.....i love her! lol

  • @lasswelltwo What is she selling... her lungs, kidneys, arms and eyes?? :P

  • How the hell do you afford all these amps.

    TELL ME YOUR SECRETS!

  • I don't have the money to buy my next amp yet, but when i do does anybody that would suggest the roadking?

    p.s i am asking you to ola.\m/

  • This is THE SOUND !

  • this song must be published!!!

  • @vChipGivesThemSight album 2012!

  • @fearedse I... I... I love you!

  • @fearedse coming from some one who has the combo version of this amp is this one of your favorites amongst others or are there otheres that get lower. I'm trying to stay loyal to mesa

  • Where can I buy this song :C

  • the solo is awesome!!! its soo Akerdfeldt : )

  • When Road King Playthrough?

  • Can anyone tell me what the intro time signature would be for the intro riff? I've been trying to figure it out but I just can't

  • @InHisName9210 y would u need to know the time signature !

    just play the riff !

  • @dusted04 haha I don't know I just really like the riff and was curious, I like to be able to count stuff out.

  • Sorry to bother again but when i checked out the road king on Mesa's website it says EL34 not EL43 o_O

Sorry i'm a little confused >_< were the original tubes of this amp switched or something? Or is Mesa's website lying to me?

  • @MrNawr lol

  • @MrNawr It was a typo, there are no such thing as el43 tubes, they are el34.

  • No matter what amp I hear or play (havent had a chance to find/play an Engl) I ALWAYS revert back to this amp...just sounds so godly!

  • That solo is so fucking awesome!

  • Hey Ola, if I still have some problem with my Road King II's sound after watching all your videos, can I tell you what my specs are and you'll give me a hint on what shall I change? By the way, sry for errors, I speak french ;)

  • Awesome Ola , what amp is better ?? ENGL fireball 100 or the Mesa Boogie dual rectifier road king II ?? for hardcore, metal ?? I love those song you make dude.

  • @metalheadboss1 thanks man... I would choose the road king out of those two!

  • Does the Road King have more gain than the standard Dual/Triple rectifers?

  • Yep, king of the amps for me. I love this tone.

  • MUNCH & PUNCH with some Groove & Sizzle.

    I likey!

  • is this your fav of all mesa's? i think its mine. sounds kick ass man. solo is creative and kicks sooo much ass. im not shure if its the amp that sounds kick ass or u hahah

  • How many times has someone asked you this question (being completely serious): What is your main amp head and why do you use it?

  • I wanted the mark v but now Im unsure this amp seems to be brutal, I love a nice brutal tone but also a great clean and lead tone as well which do you prefer the mark v or roadking?

  • I know how he gets all those amps: He just goes straight into the guitar store, smashes his Ibanez over the sellers head takes an amp like a boss and leaves. Of course you can't see the blood stains on the back of the guitar.

    ...

  • How THA FUCK, you are able to make such awesome riffs XO

    Huge fan man, Cheers! :D

  • I listen this song every day , the solo is f**** awesome

  • @santilo76 glad you like it man :D

  • Because of that video, I finally decided for the roadking!!! Thanks for helping me with my decission. I love it;-)

  • @gotteljoe congrats dude!

  • I think the el-43 tubes make this amp so special!!!! :)

  • @elsteveoguitarrero Can you get the same tone as a stilleto with the el34's that are in it by any chance??

  • @elsteveoguitarrero I agree, the EL43 are at least +9 better than EL34 ;)

  • I wonder if similar tonal results could be had in switching the 6L6's in my roadster for EL34's... do you find that the progressive linkage makes a difference in the tone at all?

  • amazing solo.

  • Why silicon diodes?? and this is by far the best sounding amp you've done. This is the king of amps.

  • @DB73093 Diodes are a choice of rectification, they make the amp tighter and louder than tube rectification.

  • @paparazzi3p I know, I know... I'm just a tube purist.

  • @DB73093 The Marshall Plexi used diode rectification, as does every modern high gain amp!

  • what is a better all around amp without software. just straight into the amp. the roadking or the einstien?

  • Hey how do you became so good?

  • @orlyorlywtf thanks but I'm not THAT good :D

  • oh-my-f*****-god...

  • every amp sound good with you !

  • The riffing reminds me of a hybrid of Pantera and Meshuggah.

sounds great! kind of makes me wish i'd have sprung for the road king over the roadster just for the progressive linkage... oh well, if I ever want a change of "flavor" I could stick some EL34's in my roadster. :)

  • ok, what do you prefer? road king or the new Mark V? all you amp testings seem to be cool, n they sound almost the same to me, but is cause is your sound, n your style,

so i get that, but i'd like more of a tour n features of the amp, what makes it different from others, ya know what i mean? why spend the money on a Road King if i can get the same sounds on a solo recto head for less cash...thta type of thing,, cheers lad.

  • amazing stuff man sounds a bit like Periphery and a tad of gojira good shizz tho (Y)

  • love you playing mate, great stuff

  • zinggg BOOM zinggg BOOM zinggg BOOM

  • Somehow I get this kinda Meshuggah-vibe from this song, anyone else?

  • I wish you played that tele with this amp

  • @psichomiko...I do...It's beastly! Check out Last Under The Sun on Reverbnation

  • damn dude nice track and badass tone.. you sir kick some serious ass haha

  • I dare you to make an amp sound bad. You should do a demo with a Crate amp. Hahaha.

  • could you tell me which amp (and asking this question to you might seem a bit funny..;) has the better clean? The Dual Rectifier or the Road King? :)

    best wishes, David

  • hey fearedse! thanks to you i got my dual rec solo head in december (: i love it so much! i'd love to know what you run for the eq! cause your tone is tricky! but i love it! its so saturated and unbelievable (:

  • Just make my a baby.. :D

  • @boss999123999123 *awkward silence*

  • wow, no overdrive for boost???!

  • Thanks to your videos, i am even more stuck on deciding an amp now =\

Originally i had the 6505 in mind, but now i'm stuck between that, the road king, and dual rec....and after that.. now roadster and triple rec to :(

WHY IS YOUR TONE SOOO AWESOME???

And uhmm....if you were playing metalcore...which of those amps do you think you would use?

  • do u rekon, I should save up for a mesa 4 12 or just like u, get a meas 2 12?

btw, I love all ur video on u tube, and thx for great tone test.

now i have my mesa retro as well.

  • did u change anything in the MTM2...like pick ups or anything? How much did the MTM2 cost ?thnks n keep kicking ass man.

  • 1 person prefers Yanni

  • SOUNDS LIKE BEHEMOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!:D!!

  • My first thought when I heard this was "Where are these guys from?" So I went to your channel, saw Sweden, and told myseft if fucking figures.

This is insane. This tone and these riffs are like the sound I've always liked, but never encountered until now.

    Truly insane.

  • That solo would make

    Santana do a doubletake.

  • Incredible tone.

  • I agree: King.

  • Sounds like someone punching you in the nutsack repeatedly.

  • No od-808 in this video? Can you make a video of Road King with Od-808?

  • didn't expect to see a tele there!

  • @fearedse lol man whore btw nice song dude it kicks ass.

  • Where do you place the SM57 on the speaker cone? Amazing tone and recording!

  • First of all, congrats... nice tones, nice playing, nice song, nice channel.

I read most of the comments but couldn't find an answer to this question: how de road king differ from de dual rec in terms of raw tone? I know the RK has a lot more features and an extra channel with extra modes and etc., but is there any difference in tone itself?

    Thanks, and keep rocking!!!

  • @pqfpt people say the clean is better, this doesn't really matter if you don't use it that much, maybe for people that have sense for details. I think the RK is a little tighter, haven't playd it though. But for raw brutal tone, I would think you could get the recto to sound just as good.

  • @ogardsveien thats what I think too, but as I have no acces to both amps, I'd really like to know how Ola would describe the differences between those 2 amps...

    Thanks for answering!!!

  • Gotta tell ya man.......luv ur vids!!!! Really impressed with ur sense of tone!!!

  • How do you like the Roadster cab compared to say a Recto 212? Best RK demo on youtube, it so hard to get a realistic idea of how awesome these things sound trhough here, haha.

  • Could you do a vid on an engl SE 670 el34 with a mesa cab?

  • This is awesome man! the clean solo reminded me of Opeth!

  • ::add to favorites:: dude this is a sick video you've just made up my mind that this is the setup I want... I got a rectoverb now which is awesome but it can't hit these lows... SIIIIIICK!!

  • Youre a musical legend dude.

  • @gearsofpizza2 nah man you make me blush *searching for the blushing emoticon* *discovering there is none* *Presses Add comment*

  • I Own a Soldano SLO100 4-option, Bogner Uberschall Green Rev, Peavey 5150 EVH Blockletter and yes, also a Mesa Road King II. The sound of your recordings is just awesome. I use the RK II as a backup for my SLO. I only use channel 1&2 in my rock band. Well, the EL34 valve setting is very open sounding, more rich as the more dry-sounding 6L6 valves. Congrats and keep up the work! Bart, Belgium.

  • Ola, I watch every single video you put out there, to be completely honest with you i miss the days you made videos with your recto, but you always test some amps that I and my band's guitarist keep discussing for FOREVER. If I were you, I do not know if I could stand even touching a Road King...Here in Greece, it is like touching gold...Bet I would have spontaneous orgasms xD

  • you ever heard of Laboga? The guys at the shop I was at had a Mesa Boogie Road King as a trade in for a Laboga Mr Hector. Behemoth used them when they were in Australia last. Cause from what Ive heard they lack the usual mid-scoop that Mesa is known for, and therefor will stand out better in a band situation or some shit.

  • @brandonfishas well the other guitarist in the band scarpoint I ply in is endorsed by laboga ;)

  • @fearedse I found that the Laboga has HEAPS more prescence, plus the back panel is NOWHERE near as confusing as the Roadking, Plus the controls are in the damn front ;). Not as many controls but really do you use EVERY SINGLE ONE??? One thing I noticed was the Laboga didnt have an annoying nasally midrange (Like Marshal and Randall). Also, I could figure out how the thing worked from the word go. It took me once with a mark V half an hour to get my head around the workings of the thing.

  • Damn...You abused too many amps!! What do you prefer?? There is a reason for use 1 amp for each song? :))

  • 1:02 hello my friend, stay a while and AHHH!! Fresh meat!

  • Your neighbours must fucking hate you. Keep turning it up to 11 though!

  • Have you tried this guitar?

Jeff Loomis 7 strinc Shecter signature.

You can get a pretty good tone and playing with it ;)

  • are you using a Distortion pedal with the amp? My Roadking didn't sound like that, even with a OD pedal in front of it. So I sold it.

  • Hey man, can you get similar djent-y tones with the dual rec?

  • What amp would you recommend for a metalcoreish sound ala Parkway Drive, killswitch engage sound?

Amps i've in my head are: Peavey 6505, Diezel Einstein, Engl fireball and maybe a mesa of somesort?

  • @garfish111 An Engl Blackmore or Savage would work, the typical Recto would work, and even the Mark Series would work.

  • whats the diff between the duel rect and the road king???? i play for a death metal band and our music is pretty heavy, so i want a nice death metal tone and dnt know what amp to buy, any suggestions?

  • @moneymoney220666 The Differences are that the Road king has 4 channels, and you can choose the tubes it runs on. The one thing all mesas, marshalls etc etc lack is a good sounding MID RANGE. you cant hear yourself and wont cut through without any mids. Take a look at Laboga. THey had a Dual Recto Road king too and the laboga SHAT all over it. Behemoth use them. The presence in this amp is phenominal. Plus, Most cabs tend to be less dense, but Laboga's are really solid.

  • @brandonfishas Really, If you want a Mesa, you want a Mesa. So, the differences between the two are the versatility. First, The Road King has 4 channels: Clean, Crunch, OD one and OD2 or some shit, as opposed to 2 or 3 on the Standard Recto. They both have 3 modes on each channel, Ods Thick, Vintage, Modern, Cleans are CleAN, fat bold or something like that. Whats rediculous about the roadking, is the back panel. it is COVERD in more inputs than are really necassary, and its just confusing

  • @moneymoney220666 But, If you had the cash for either, I'd really try each out in a store if you can track them down. Take a look on the website for starters. Where do you live?

  • @brandonfishas India, everything here is fucking xpensive, i want to import one outta the US, a bugera 6260 here cost around 1200$,

  • So which of these amps that you demo are yours?

  • Shit man, are you rich or something? Mesa Road king, Mesa Dual Rec, ENGL Savage, Axe FX...

  • @Lgw1984 Yes I work as a professional manwhore.

  • @fearedse YOU'RE EPIC MAAN!!!! PLAY LIKE THE DEVIL AND THE BEST HUMOR ON THE EARTH MAAN I SALUTE YOU!!! er godt nok dansk men elsker sverige:P

  • @fearedse you could tell you just get sick of getting asked this question huh?

  • once the solo picks up at 2:49, it reminds me alot of Emil Werstler from DAATH. In a very good way

  • I came on here to hear the Axe FX and HD500 but ended up blown away by this Road King tone, love it! Very useful resource of amp tones on your channel, thanks for sharing.

  • so out of all these amps whats your favorite?

  • 1:02 lol hello my friend stay a while :)

  • So what was the settings on this video? Cause dam I'm going to be getting a Road King Soon and I want this tone haha.

  • @Overture2152 pause in the beginning of the video for knob settings and description for the rest.

  • very cool that you have a telecaster right there.

    that one looks cool too.

  • Hey man have you tried a triple rect? if so can you tell a difference between the triple and the dual?

  • You said in the description you used the tube settings at "2x EL34" mode. So, you are using the amp at 50 watt, right? Is there a big diference betwn 50 and 100 watt? Is this amp, when in 50 watt mode, still good at most aplications? And.. before I forget: what can you tell me about the difference between the 6L6s and the EL34s on the road king?

  • @erickchba2 exactly, but the difference in power between 50 and 100W is not really big. 50W is way loud. The 6L6 are a bit darker but sweet for leads,. The EL34 are has a little more bite to them.

  • i love the sound

  • in your dual rec vid you use the 808, does the road king not need it? also from what i read and hear the road kings channel 3/4 'modern' modes, compared to the dual recs modes of the same name are smoother, the dual rec has an edginess to it...have you found that to be the case?

  • @syoun14 now I only had the roadking for like 2 days so didn't really have a chance to dwelve in deep into it's sound but I found that I could easily play it without a OD and make it sound good. Maybe it just was just one of those good mesa boogie days when everything blows your fucking mind to bits.

  • SATANIK scenes in ths vid :>

    epic amp.

    like most of MB amps...

  • When are you guys going to release this song? Has one of my fav solos in it! Keep it up Ola

  • God I love Mesa's the heavy tone is just awesome. I have a Mark V and I love it, but I love the Road King and Dual Rectifier just as much. Makes me wish I was poor lol

  • I guess in the end what you like is what ya like,Btw your song is very good!!

    keep up the good work!!!

  • I would buy one of these amps if I had the dollars. Nice Playing.

  • i will say my XXX is every bit as good for much less and it was made in the u.s.a.

6l6 ruby tubes set at 70 volts.i run a line 6 pro rack as the pre amp.Fucking ball

busting tone and lows that rummble the whole damn club

  • @TheCelticknights I owned a XXX in the past and owned a Dual Rectifier at the same time. Great amp but sold it over the rectifier. But then again I would marry a dual rectifier.

  • @fearedse Don't let the wife read that comment =]

  • Do you record your guitars on a studio room or do u just mic the amps on your bedroom as the video suggests?

  • @dedej88 what you see in the video baby, the video shows one track of the recording.

  • were the pickups changed for this gtr or are they "stock" pickups with the ibanez?

  • Brutal!

  • the best ive heard a mesa sound in years!!! not my favorite amps but you sir nailed it!!!

  • Im so glad I've bought this amp. :) Truly amazing.

  • Nice bluesy clean solo ha awesome song, got me missing my electric sooo bad ha

  • Nice*****

  • is this the Version 1 or Version 2 of the Roadking???

  • i really like your music. what type of approach do you take when writting?

do you use theory or do you just go by feel?

  • Do you personnaly prefer the road king tone or the dual rec one?

  • I personally like this song played thru your Savage (the Hot Plate + Savage demo) kool man.

  • sounds so fucking kickass man. how do you get rid of the lowend farts/rumble when palm muting? kickass songwriting.

your mix has so much power in the lower frequencies without farting at all! man thats so fucking cool I want to have a mix like this haha.

please check out my music too, I dont a mix like you though :D thats something I gotta work on.

    cheers

  • @hideki12345 check my guitar recording tutorial for more info :)

  • Hey man,

Why isn't this song on itunes !?? :(

  • @ArchRivalNeo There are no vocals for it recorded yet.

  • i get Opeth chills hearing that solo.AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • This reminds me an incredible amount of the band Coroner.

  • The tone is perfect! Great playin too! Can u tell me the tunning of the guitar and the gauge of the strings plz?

  • @erickchba2 tuning: C with a drop A#. Strings 60-12

  • Please test a Mark V. Would like to hear if they can get brutal.

  • oh well those d have a good tone.

    Tack

  • Hey if I remember you use Duncan Blackouts in your ibanez in this video correct?

I was curious to know your opinion on Good passive pickups that could give a great metal tone like you have?

  • @Behersk218 No not Blackouts. This guitar carries stock Ibanez Z8 and Z7 passive pickups.

  • hi,great job always...dude,i have a question to a master of hi gain like u XD,could i use a roland jc 120 and a dual rectifier without any problem? i am thinking in use both but use the 2x12 of roland for the mesa too...but im not enough sure if i could damage the roland combo...use at that form...thanks dude for all your work specially the matt damon´s tutorial XDDD

  • whats your settings for your clean? what do you use to get that sound? My les pauls seem to not want to have nice cleans....
